Like I said if it doesn't feel like an overpay and I don't think starting at 7 or 8M would be then I won't have a problem with it being announced on Saturday? if I'm not mistaken but if it's a deal that starts around 12M and goes up from there I'll be pissed and that's kind of how I saw Ant's deal.

definitely kind of a high wire act to not only anticipate what is the optimum 'tradable' contract but anticipate what will be tradable 2 or 3 years down the line. As you pointed out, when people hear 5-year/150M they tend to go bonkers. But the starting salary would be 26M; and that's only 19% of the cap and 16% of the tax margin. The 3rd year of the deal, when it would b 30M, is the first year of the new media contracts and I'm already seeing salary cap projections of 175-180M for that year. Grant's salary would be less than 17% of the cap.

Ant's salary was 18% of the cap this season and about 17.8% next season. Grant was better than Ant this season.

I keep hoping that just once, the Blazers will sign one of their free agents to a bargain contract. They never did it with CJ; didn't with Powell, didn't with Nurk and Ant. I guess too much to hope they do with Grant

Which brings me back to my original question--given the parameters we've already agreed upon (that Grant won't help the team win, and the re-signing him would solely be for the purpose of converting him into a usable asset down the road), what level of contract do you think would be reasonable for Grant? That is to say, if 30+ million makes him "virtually worthless", is he worth something (to other teams) at 20 million? 24 million?

good guy, good shooter, solid defender, horrible rebounder and we NEED rebounding/size badly

There are really good players in the league that don’t really help teams win (Russ, Melo, LaVine) He’s one of those guys. He might be a decent player on a team where he’s the 3rd or 4th option. Some teams out there will like him anyway (look at Portland) So while I wouldn’t sign him at all, the $ amount doesn’t really matter, I guess because some team might think they are a player away and trade for him regardless of salary

Grant played 8 games after Hart was traded and averaged about 5 a game, so (considerably) might be an overstatement. Our Lillardputian pg however averaged 7

Saying Grant can play SF may or may not be correct, it depends who the PF is. It needs to be a very mobile guy, a defensive guy and ideally a good rebounder. That's not a common archetype of player.
