So, here are the things that I found to be most interesting while on a trip to Wichita, Kansas:

1. Cabaret Old Town

This is a live theatre that provides cutting edge musical comedies that can't be missed!

2. Mosley Street Melodrama
234 N. Mosley St 67202

We were told that this is one of the oldest favorites in the city, we shortly knew why when arriving. First, you are treated to a home-style buffet catered by the local "Pig In, Pig Out Barbecue." Alcoholic drinks are also available. Then the fun begins. The melodrama starts and the entire audience is supposed to yell at the actors and enjoy in a rowdy show. After this there is a musical comedy that is great entertainment. When everything is finished, the actors shake your hands as you are leaving.

3. Kansas Grown! Inc.

This is a fantastic farmers market that holds just about everything that you could ever wish for in a farmers market. There are private sales of furniture, locally grown produce, soaps, lotions and so much more.

So top 4 things to do are go to two musicals, one which is "cutting edge", go to a farmars market, and a candy shop...wow, sign me up!

While the rest of world may seem to be descending into economic crisis, the Wichita metropolitan area is forecast to add about 6,100 jobs in 2009, according to a new Wichita State University forecast.

That is about twice the job growth expected in 2008.

Almost all sectors are going to see growth, led by 2,500 jobs in aircraft manufacturing, and about 1,000 jobs in business and professional services.

The only local sectors expected to lose jobs are food processing and information technology.

The forecast was the highlight of WSU's 29th annual Wichita Area Economic Outlook Conference, held Tuesday at the Hyatt Regency Wichita. More than 500 business, government and community leaders attended.

Summing up the underlying theme of the conference, the word "disconnect" loomed on the giant screen behind Rob Allison, the interim director of WSU's Center for Economic Development and Business Research, as he started his forecast.

"Disconnect" refers to the gap between the relatively upbeat assessment of the local economy and the gloomy take on the national economy.

The nation is in, or headed for, a long, painful recession, the speakers said.

But for Wichita, Allison said three key factors stood out:

• The multibillion-dollar backlog of aircraft orders will keep tens of thousands of highly paid workers on the job.

• The steady appreciation in the local housing market allows people to continue to build wealth, borrow against equity and feel safe with their largest investment.

• There is enough credit for local businesses to borrow for expansions, or operations, as needed.

It's a forecast that many of the attendees said echoed their own experience.

"The economy here is still sound," said Shawn Lancelot, Bank of America's president for the Wichita market.

Cause I average anywhere between 75-100 miles a day due to driving to school, going to girlfriends house, dropping her off at work, picking up her brother, taking him home, picking her up, going out to dinner/movies/whatever hangout thing with our friends, driving back to her place, then going home...

I feel for those men and women only making $2.65 an hour. A gallon of gas is almost equivalent to an hour of their life. Five workdays = a full tank. I doubt most of these people drive cars, but it makes me think.

About 100 miles a day but I have a Dodge Neon that gets 31-35 miles a gallon. School is a good 20 miles away plus I have to drive my cousin around since she doesn't have her car right now and she lives and works all the way arcoss town so they adds another 60 miles a day.
