Summer "BIG Swing" trade

This is going to be a VERY unpopular opinion ( i think ) but I would rather give up / trade Sharpe over Scoot not because I think Scoot has more talent cause i think Sharpe edges him out but because I think Scoot has the fire to be better.

I wanna make something clear not saying Sharpe SHOULD be traded just saying I am more open to a Sharpe trade then a Scoot trade

We're nowhere yet with Scoot and Shae. It's silly to see some posters including them in trades. I highly doubt the organization is too interested in giving them up before they've gotten a full opportunity.

Move Ant and let Scoot/Shae run the backcourt.

Like you said, his roster has been iffy, at best. So doesn't concern me a ton. Deni was never part of a winner, but we can see he easily has the tools to impact winning.

Again, all depends on the price,of course
LaMelo is on a supermax contract and has been injured more than half the games recent years. Concerning that his play does nothing to help a team win. I wouldn't want him at any price.

I think my concern is health.... it seems like all of those guys have real injury issues. At least Scoot and Shae aren't making max money right now, and we might be able to get them on significantly better contracts than what Ball is getting.

But Ball is dice roll that could pay off. He's an All-Star. He's really good when he's healthy. Same issue as Zion.
Zion has played at a way higher level than Ball when healthy. Their totally incomparable. Zion team had close to the best record in the league at points in multiple seasons.

I wouldn't want either, Zion off court stuff and health is way worse. But Ball might just be a flashy Michael Carter Williams. That's a player who looks far better than he is because he's on a horrific team.

The thing with these players on a $200+ million contract is you have to build the whole team around them. This isn't when the Blazers bought low on JR Rider and you can just have them as an extra piece. They would need to be the foundation of the team.

The Pacers built their team around Haliburton and Siakam. Do you think LaMelo can lead the Blazers franchise? I certainly would not want that experiment.

Does Memphis now have the assets to make a godfather offer?

Do they have a top two pick in this draft? No they do not. I don't think they have anything to tempt us, really. I mean, we traded AWAY from a first rounder to GET Deni last year, why would we reverse course?

Isn’t Deni pretty much our best player? Trading him for draft picks and some bench players would send a pretty bad message considering we are supposed to be trying to win this season.

The only reason why I could see us trading Deni is if he has made it clear he won’t re-sign here. Or if we are concerned that we can’t extend him and have to take the risk of letting him hit free agency in a couple years.

we can’t extend him even if he wants to extend with us. One of the downsides of his cheap contract.

Yeah, that's where I was going with it.... if we're afraid that he'll leave for nothing because we can't really extend him so we have to let him hit free agency.

If Memphis blows it up I would kick the tires on Ja. When he’s right he’s a top 10 player imo. Not sure how we’d get him without gutting the roster though.

Mil picks/11 this year/Scoot/Ant?/Future picks?

Ja
Sharpe
Deni
Camara
Clingan

That ^ would be awesome. We just wouldn’t be able to keep all those guys to get Morant.

Isn’t he locked up for the next 3 seasons though? I’d like to be winning during that time.

Yup. There's no rush to make a decision on him. I'm just saying that if he made it clear that he wouldn't re-sign here, I could see us trying to quietly move him. But that's the only reason why I could see us trading him.

I agree, but the organization isn't too interested in moving Ant. I hope they do.

If the Blazers are hell bent on keeping Simons around, Maybe we should look at what we can get for Sharpe while his value is high? It just seems like the Blazers are always coddling players. I just want them to pick a direction!

There are other teams that can use Ant and could be interested in his bird rights. If we have to attach a couple of seconds to Jerami to offload him for expirings then I wouldn't mind that. I'm not going to speculate where, I'm just going to say that Joe better have a couple of destinations lined up for those two.

That being said, now that I see what Bane fetched, I'm not ruling out an actual big swing.

Jaren has been my realistic pie in the sky guy for a little bit now.

He fits in great with our current personnel and gives us a curve ball at center to play alongside our big wings.

I don't think Memphis is looking to move him though

Ja is toxic. No thanks.
It’s Portland! How much trouble will he be able to get into? Maybe he grows up and leads us far into the playoffs? Remember, it is super difficult for Portland to land a free agent all star player. Only via trade. Gotta swing for the fences as per this thread

Seems to of gotten in plenty of trouble in Memphis and we do have the strip clubs he covets.

If/when we get cap space next summer or after, we can re-negotiate and extend Deni the same way Utah did Lauri
Good idea.

I'm wondering if we'll have a bunch of Ant/Ayton/Sharpe/Camara extensions on the books by then that will prevent that though.
