Assuming the Blazers make it, whom do you want to face in the Summer League Final?

Well I guess the reason I would disagree is no one’s “best” players are out there. Summer league may show “some” things of what’s to come, but the regular season squad will at most want these guys to be role players and some of them won’t even make the team.

I’m kind of curious how you intertwine summer league and the regular season? Is it coaching? Effort?

It's both. Primarily coaching. It stands to reason that the SL Coach is pretty much of similar play calling to Stotts, does it not?

As for effort: if we choose to play someone like Baldwin this season, will he show the same lack of effort and sloppy plays in the regular season that he showed in this game?

I have never in my life heard anyone including a player, coach, upper management or a writer ever suggest that summer league rotations have any corilation with nba rotations? How could they? They are entirely different rosters..

As far as plays, okay sure yes that is because it’s the same playbook. I still don’t see how you can say they are the same though...you think we are calling the same plays for John Jenkins as we are for CJ? Do you think we even call plays as much in the regular season? I would say that’s highly, highly doubtful considering the entirely different roster on the regular squad.

Well, that is a huge part of this, isn't it? Think on this: how many times last season did we feel like we all wanted to bash our faces into a wall over Terry Stott's rotations and play calling? Not to mention his lack of time outs.

No, obviously they are not calling every identical play for, say, Baldwin in SL as they are for CJ in Regular Season. However, they are very similar, as mentioned, and some of what we saw tonight SHOULD be concerning. Because Stotts has demonstrated numerous times before that he isn't capable of adjusting when things don't go right.

For example: teams like Memphis. Which we, time and time again, play down to their level instead of speeding up, moving the ball, and playing a quick-paced game. Now, tonight, much of that was Baldwin's fault. However, it's a repeating pattern when facing teams like Memphis, year after year after year. And it gets a little old after a while.

I mean....we won

While we did win, this IS a game thread, so momentary reactions should be expected, since we don't know the end result. I think that's some peoples' argument.

It's very fair to have in-the-moment reactions. A lot of people have them. That doesn't make them better or the others worse, it's just part of being a human.

No. We must judge all opinions because we were stupid enough to post them to the internet where they shall never die!

Rich text editor didn't work! Dennyyyy!!

Using the NBA.com definition of efficiency (the same as Hoopsstats uses) and multiplying by 100 to get rid of decimal points, I ranked today's players, all of ours and the best of 2 other teams.

I'm happy with this win. What I'm NOT happy with is how we played. And, in MY experience, how we play in games like this is a good determination of how we'll play in the regular season.

Not always, but it's usually a good indication.

I'm happy they won. I'm not happy with how they played. And I'm not pleased about what this COULD mean for our future (I guess time will tell on that).

So, you're predicting we will go undefeated during the regular season, win games even when our best player has a terrible game and make the finals?

I love the optimism, but come on dude, tone it down a little. It's a long season.

Man Collins has been huge dissapointment on the Offense end in Summer League. Has no moves, can't Post up against guards. He looks like a bust on offense

He'll see plenty of time because of his defense. Because of the volume of shots Dame and CJ take you just need from him to hit open jump shots and dunk and make the occasional nifty dive to the hoop. He can do that.

For example, Archie Goodwin's minutes were 19. His efficiency was 22, so efficiency per minute was 22/19 times 100 = 116.

His +/- was 5, so his +/- per minute was 5/19 times 100 = 26.

Efficiency = ((Points + Rebounds + Assists + Steals + Blocks) - ((Field Goals Att. - Field Goals Made) + (Free Throws Att. - Free Throws Made) + Turnovers)).

And was this for one game, or the entire summer league season?

Wade has one bad game and everybody shits on him...

I really hate you guys sometimes
I'm just puzzled by it. Nine turnovers. And something way off mentally, couldn't really put my finger on it. My sense was not that he was trying too hard.; somehow his head did not seem to be in the game.

I don't think anyone was shitting on the guy, why should he be any different than the others on the team that played really bad. He kind of came across as wtf, why am i not getting calls and seemed to force things when he gets pissed. H was being guarded will by their back court, just like he frustrates the back court of other teams.
Lets see how he responds tonight and if they get in his head or he lights them up with superb play.

I haven't read the thread. What's been said about Caleb? He killed.
It was over reaction night, Wade was bad, Caleb was good!

My personal feelings is that it was probably good for Caleb’s confidence to have a good game. Wade will be fine, it was an ugly SL game so it was pretty hard to watch at times but they won!

I thought that Wade showed that he has some maturing to do to retain his composure. He clearly was pressing to show the Grizzlies that they blew it in cutting him loose. No problem in having that desire, but you have to maintain control. Some of his drives were a mess and he got T'd up, 2 for 13 shooting, +/- of -7? Everyone has off nights, but his seemed to be primarily due to a loss of composure. Hanging out with Dame should help that.

He only 20 and he hasn't even grown in his body yet. Yes he still needs to get stronger and he also needs to get lift in his shots on the inside each time. Sometimes he flat foot when shoots and that one reason is shot comes up short.

I really don't care. Mutombo was not some kind of offensive powerhouse either. Collins is a badass on defense. He's the best young defensive big I have seen on our team in a loooooooong time. He's still so young, but he has great instincts and he knows how to go up for the block without drawing the foul.

All I want from him is to develop a consistent outside shot. We have Nurk. We don't need him to be an interior scorer. He should work on his handle and his shooting. But his defense could be DPOY level and that's worth much more than scoring.

Is it? You think Golden State would rather have Curry or Draymond?

Who do you think is more difficult to find? A scoring guard or a big that dominates the paint on defense? More than one pro player has said that Dame could replace Curry on the Warriors and they'd still be just as good. Without Draymond, I'm not sure that team wins its first two titles. They'd just be another Portland with two high scoring guards.

What they are now is just silly with Durant and Boogie.... but the original core team that won all those games was Curry/Klay/Draymond and it was Dray's ability to defend multiple positions and pass the ball that let Curry pop off all the time.

Well I don’t agree that Dame is as good as Curry. I don’t mean to disrespect Dame, but Curry is legit the best shooter in NBA history or at least one of. Dame is a good shooter but he’s not on that level. I think both Draymond and Curry are needed for that team to succeed.
In terms of what’s harder to find, both are pretty hard to find. If it was so easy to find a great scorer everyone would have one, and if it was easy to find a good defendsive big there would be more too.

Not saying Dame is as good as Curry. But I'm saying that the way that Golden State is built, you could put Dame on that team in place of Curry and they still win championships. Not sure they do that without Draymond.

I will also say that while Curry is definitely a more efficient shooter, Dame beats him with his durability. I'd rather have Dame for 82 games than Curry for 60.
