I haven't been back since I as a kid but this place seemed like deep dish pizza to me at the time.

Gallucci's is really good. Still there. But it's not Chicago deep-dish.

What about Abby's? Anyone like Abby's? I think they make excellent pizza, though (sigh), still not Chicago deep-dish.

I have a soft spot for their cracker crust... I was raised in Klamath Falls, and Abby's was the only pizza place (other than Pizza Caboose) in town. We still hit up Abby's on any trips to Southern Oregon.

WTF? This isn't even funny, but please tell me you're joking?

I am a big fan of Pizzacato, Ken's, Apizzascholls (they guy is the pizza nazi, but there's no arguing with the pizza), etc. Just found a new joint I really like, but can't remember the name (it's new, and there's a related pizza joint up in Seattle under the same name, too).

Apizzascholls is totally overrated; they use the same pepperoni as Stark Street!

Giovanni's in Beaverton is pretty good, and I used to love Silver Dollar before it went belly up.

Gino's East, Pizzeria Uno and Lou Malnati's were my favorite when there

They've changed the pepperoni a couple of times. My brother's ex-father-in-law was/is the supplier there for a bunch of things. Not sure what it's like now, but the3 times or so I've been to Apizzascholls, it's been outstanding. But the idea of first-come seating (and no reservations) is a bitch.

I'll be at our cabin at Lake of the Woods in three weeks. Maybe a trip to K-Falls for Abby's would be worth the 25 mile drive?

We walked near Geno's East while heading to Ditka's for dinner. It's right off of Michigan about a half-block down Superior, if memory serves.

The Taste of Chicago was awesome on Friday night, though. Those of you who are on Facebook with me can check out some of the food in my brother's photos.

Was Silver Dollar the place on NW 23rd?

Yeah. Best-known for their serving minors. I started going in there at 19 and they never ID'd me until after I was 21.

I watched the Oden/Durant lottery there while working up on NW 23rd one day. I loved it because it was the only true dive up there that actually didn't smell.

Mediocre Man, you are not far wrong. I have an AIDS poster of a handsome young man in an open raincoat with the caption "good boys always wear their rubbers". The Rip City cover of Chris Dudley in swimsuit, which he kindly signed.

And my cats.

You let people sign your cats? how was PETA kept our of this atrocity?

I'll throw out Dove Vivi as another good pizza joint. Stark street is decent, and it reminds me of Abby's as far as the atmosphere goes.

For pizza, my favorite place was Organ Grinder. They had a special trick - no, not a special ingredient. They were always packed. But the time you got your pizza you would be famished, making the pizza taste so good!

Yeah, Dove has a lot of healthy shit their too. The cornmeal crust.... it's not bad. I have some friends with various health issues so they couldn't otherwise have pizza, if not for their special crust.

Gino's Pizza off Cedar Hills Blvd was my favorite back in the day. I loved that place!

Since this has turned into a Pizza thread...

The best pizza I've ever had is from a place in Salem called Walery's Pizza.

no need to call SlyPokerDog's girlfriend a hooker, seems kinda out of line no?

Did you used to have a band called The Kinks? I saw you in Portland once. Good show.

Can we get this thread back on track with pizza please???

Were the grades given relative to expectations or on an absolute scale of performance?

more importantly, Apizza Scholls and Kens are the only above average pizza places in PDX...

SlyPokerDog is just a dick, dude.
