I think we have far too many issues to deal with on this fragile little ecosphere to spend too much time trying to answer the unanswerable. That said, I believe in a higher power AND an afterlife, whatever either one of those might actually be.....

Well, you offer me no room to differ! How dull! This thread may be off the page in a single day.

Oops! It may go on for more days.

(1 2 3, 4 5 6, 7 8 9) x (1 0 0, 0 1 0, 0 0 1) = (1 0 0, 0 5 0, 0 0 9)

or some shit...

WTF? Certainly it was meant for me, and any like me, few as they may be! It did not have to be, he could have just ban commercial fishing, but he include me.

Could it have been for cruise ships and cargo ships such as oil tankers? That's what I was thinking of. Else they must have been thinking of people discarding trash which I'm quite certain you don't do. Hence the declaration that it was not meant for you or those of you with similar ecological views.

The second law of thermodynamics says that in any irreversible law entropy (chaos) increases. Since there are always irreversible processes going on in the known universe, entropy (chaos) is constantly increasing. And yes, S2 would be an example. This forum is totally irreversible.

I imagine many can discern the issue, some even pitched in.
Think on it barf! Where would a logician land?

Ok, whatever. Not that interested in playing that game.

On the marine monument designation, the article says that recreational fishing is allowed in the monument. So how is it that you are banned?

that and it's probably to keep speed boat racers and jet ski folks out more than likely......

Well it does not matter does it. The Emperor fucked me up by executive order. Did not need to, but he did it.

Sailors must apply for permits to visit months in advance of travelling to Midway and the Monument around it. The very strict guidelines that must be followed in order to transit through these protected waters include that vessels must've their hull cleaned prior to entrance and owners must pay $1500 for the required monitoring devices that track vessel movements while in monument waters. These rules are in place to try to inhibit the introduction of invasive species and make sure that the fragile coral reefs aren't jeopardized by errant sailors. "

Applications for permit are accepted in person only in Honolulu. About a 1000 mile out of the way and then they decide if you have sufficient reason.
Thanks Obama! (I would like to get like @riverman here but I won't)

Who said anything about hate?

All I see is a bunch of people who used some form of indoctrination to control a weak minded public and inflicted a lot death and destruction as a dictator. That doesn't make them better or worse than what happened in the Crusades or the Spanish Inquisition or the conquest of the Americas where millions of natives were killed as the church tried to spread their missions up and down North and South America.

Nothing controls my life. Not religion. Not politics. I don't loyally give myself to any movement. I analyze and I decide for myself. Sometimes I vote Republican, sometimes I vote Democrat. I went to church for a few years. Got confirmed Lutheran. It's a good community to do fun stuff like play softball, but I still see a lot of hypocrites. People who claim to follow the bible, but still judge others. I'm sure Jesus was a really good dude (if he existed), and he would be ashamed of what people have done and are doing in his name. Whether he is the actual son of god is another matter entirely.

My point, is that I don't just accept anything. I keep an open mind and I decide things for myself. I have had some shit happen to me that makes me think there's something greater than me.... but is that the Christian god? I don't know. Either way, I think organized religion is a tool used to steal people's money and control people's actions.
Asside from your denial of Jesus was God in the flesh i agree with pretty much all your points. Interesting how we came to different conclusions. That's why i love america though, we have the right to disagree and still cohabitate in the greatest nation on earth, with the right to bare arms incase any hypocrite tries to take that away, of course.

No, you misunderstand the science. The 2nd law of thermodynamics doesn't say that everything moves toward chaos. If that were true no one could ever build an automobile or organize a library. If you put energy into something, you can move it to less disordered states. A living being is not an isolated system. Animals eat, and use that energy to grow and reproduce and mutate and evolve.

barfo
Mutation is always a loss of information. Even in your bacteria evolve to become resistant to drugs arguement the bacreria has mutated a loss on information that the drug was fighting.

If someone designs and engine (that takes intelligence) it is still going to wear down. You can continue to feed it fuel and change fluids, but eventually entropy wins, and a designer must rebuild it.

I don't fault people for their beliefs. This would be a boring existence if we all agreed on everything. And I can't pretend to know everything about our short existence on this planet. Is there a God? I have no idea. I just have a really hard time believing anything that was touched by man, which makes the Bible very hard to trust. Men are evil. They are corrupt. They lie and cheat and bend the truth. So putting my faith in a book that has been in the hands of evil men for thousands of years is a pretty big ask.

With that said, there's some good stuff in the Bible. For the most part it's a really good road map to live your life.

I just have a very hard time dealing with people who think the Earth is 10,000 years old.

Understandable. I faced all the same road blocks before God granted me grace. Trust me. I have the bible conversation with pastors all the time. KJV was translated quite honestly with a check and balances system 7 groups translated in isolated rooms and then scrutinized eachothers work until all was agreed upon. They added italicized words to help it flow but to show they werent a direct translation. It was also not copywritten as they believed no one can copywrite the word of God. Newer translations however have copyqrites which require a 10% change to text i believe, so it is of my opinion those have been tampered with by men. Wheter the intent was evil or not im not sure, but i find them much harder to trust. I stick with my old kjv. The old english is actually easy for me to read and tbh, my preferred method of reading.

I know i cant convince you, but i appriciate the adult discussion on the matter.

I think my biggest problem is that I have a hard time believing that it's a conscious being and I tend to lean more towards something like The Force from Star Wars. Some kind of all encompassing power that flows through all of us. I think there's something about us that is unexplainable. Whether it's a soul or an energy... I do not know.

The force is a twist off of Buddhism. I was leaning that way after graduating public liberal school. They push the eastern philosophies hard.

Would you mind elaborating?

Well I just mean, I don't see anything wrong with embracing much of the Christian Religion, especially the teaching and philosophy of Jesus. As well as some thought expressed by followers of other religions. But then not accepting all things from any one religions. In my view, being a Christian does not require you to accept the stories in the old Testament as truth. So the Jews had a story about the beginning of man as told in the days of Moses. It is just the way it was, in my view. The Jewish religion is what Christianity began from, that what Jesus sot to reform, and he did.

I find your thoughts of our being more like mine. And just a valid as any others. So I can not claim to be a Christian but I admire their recommended ways to live a life. I consider them brothers. Hindus and Buddhist too.

I think I tend to have issues when people try to push their beliefs on others... either philosophically or with violence. If someone wants to believe in one religion, cool, I have no problem with that. I can't tell them they're wrong. I have no idea what's right or wrong. The Christians might be right. The Buddhists might be right. I can't prove or disprove any one of them.

I lean towards what you said. They all have their good points and their bad points. What never made sense to me is the people who claim to follow Jesus, but seem to have completely missed the entire point of him telling us to love each other. It seems awfully disingenuous to ignore the most important one of his teachings, and focus in on some bullshit about gay people, or abortion, or sex education, etc etc etc. To me, the whole point is to love your fellow man and let God do the judging when it's all said and done. That's the part that always bothered me about a lot of Christians.

Sorry, I can't make sense of that.

All of that is true, but not terribly relevant to the discussion. All living things die, too. In the end, entropy wins out, but that doesn't mean that it wins at every moment along the way.

Well, I fear some Christians have not bought or understood all the teachings of Jesus. Some still remember the parts in the Torah that Jesus was about reforming.
But I sure don't think you will find a consensus of opinion on my take. However, there sure is a conflict that I am not about to worry about.

Give me proof that entropy doesnt work. Yes animals eat to sustain but they still get old and die. I eat a lot of food (energy) and ive yet to evolve wings even though the TSA is a pain in my ass and i wish to adapt.

Entropy works fine, it is your understanding of it that doesn't work.

You need to believe to make it true. Have faith, and you will have wings.

Nothing explodes. Creates chaos. Which evolves into order. Which then devolves into chaos. And it's all psyintifical fact thus saith barfo. I envy your faith to believe that.
