Sweetney appreciation --- This thread is for those who don't know better

Ok guys. It seems like there are a few posters coming in from different team boards who aren't aware of how much we love Sweetney and how damn good he is. This is the case because they haven't watched him play enough and aren't hardcore Knicks fans. I would like for all Knicks fans (Especially Tribute to H20 and mrj18) to write up a paragraph or two about why Sweetney is so good so the others can learn.

Mine will be up in a while.

obviously he worked hard during the offseason, improved his conditioning, his post moves and he's a trade away (Kurt Thomas) from becoming a starter...

Where do I begin on this guy. Michael Sweetney has just been a big surprise for all Knick fans. The first time I saw him play last year he was overweight and out of shape. Now in addition to coming to camp in shape he brought a wide variety of many new post moves. He's a great rebounder. He is relentless on the boards! He especially excells in the offensive rebounding department. Mike Sweetney is also a common visitor to the freeethrow line. The only way that many players are able to stop Sweetney is by fouling him. Michael Sweetney is a smart, hard working person which is very rare in young players. His work is his greatest attribute. If it only took less than a season to develop some of his post moves imagine Sweetney in 2006. If he isn't the real deal big man I don't know who is. If the Knicks didn't have Kurt Thomas, Michael Sweetney would be averaging somewhere around 30mpg. Giving you atleast about 15ppg, and 11rebs at only his second year in the league. If he doesn't score he finds another way to contribute. Let's not forget his tremendous amount of hustle which is one of the real reasons why he is a crowd favorite here in NY. Everyone who follows the Knicks knows that Madison Square Garden can be a tough crowd to please but, Sweetney managed to consistantly please the crowd all the time in only his second year in the league. If this guy isn't the next Elton Brand in the NBA within the years to come he will certainly be better. And if anyone asks you can tell them that mrj18 told you so!

Unlike what some people my post Sweetney is very capable of putting up similiar or even better numbers than Brand. He should be regarded as one of the top Sophmores in the league and soon one of the best rebounders. He has great postup skills, hes becoming a good shooter and will make more freethrows than he'll miss. Sweetney is a good passer and can attract double teams allowing him to give a teamate an open look.Althought he hasn't really had the many chances to do this, with the way that he is progressing it wont be long before he does.The young future NBA star is a very smart player and will be a very valuable player as long he can stay out of foul trouble. What else could you want in a powerforward?

Sweetney is exactly what Knick fans have been waiting for for years. He's tough and can bang with the best of them. and has a nice post up game. Given the minutes he's one of the best rebounders in the league. As if that wasnt enough He also has a vast array of underrated post up moves and draws fouls really well. His shooting percentage is excellent and like all Georgetown products he's a hard worker so he'll only keep getting better. The only knock on his game is that he doesnt have a midrange jumper but he's getting better at shooting from the midrange. At times he seems foul prone but those are simple mistakes that will fade with time. We all know Georgetown products have been great players with great work ethics and Sweetney is no exception. He's a good player now but he has the strenght, quickness and agility to be a top five powerforward(at least) in the very near future. What's not to like?

Top 5 powerforward in the near future? Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Jermaine O'neal,
Dirk Nowitzki Elton Brand and Pau Gasol will all be better than him for the next 5 years i believe. Maybe he'll bet top 15 in the near future but not top 5. Lets not start to overrate him now.

Ah yes forgot about those guys. Pau Gasol isnt that good. He's good but Sweetney will be better than him. Nowitzki... I cant figure him out. he isnt exactly a typical powerforward. He's perimeter orientated whereas Sweetney is a player who works down low. Two completely different games so I dont know if you can compare them. Near future for me is 2-4 years. Sweetney will be as good as Elton Brand(at least) so unless there's someone I'm missing he'll be a top five powerforward.

I had a Heat fan tell me that Udonis Haslem is the next Karl Malone. Is that reasonable?

Not Gasol level IMO. Top 8 material though.

Haslem is great, and he's my boy-But whoever said that is just.....dead wrong.

Dont be confused. I simply dont think Pau Gasol is that good. I think he's one of the better powerforwards without a doubt. Maybe a top five powerforward right now and at last a top ten powerforward but Sweetney will be better than him. I cant compare Sweetney to Nowitzki because Nowitzki doesnt play like a powerforward. If it puts ur mind at ease I'll say that I think Nowitzki will be better than Sweetney for a few more years but I dont consider him a powerforward. He's more of a small forward...a really tall small forward. Besides in the low post Sweetney will take it to him not in the future but right now. Not joking. Oh yeah I forgot. Haslem. I like him. He's a player that puts alot of effort into everything but he is no Karl Malone.

As fans, you feel strongly attached to Sweetney, and that's a big part of why you don't wanna trade him. He's a hard working PF, and he's got potential...correct?

Okay, so I'll pull my Lakers into this for a second. I feel strongly attached to...Luke Walton. I believe if he were to play more minutes, he could contribute alot to the Lakers...and as much as we need a PG, I wouldn't trade Walton for someone like, say, Marcus Banks.

Now...I know a few of you that aren't Laker fans will disagree with me about Luke. Well, I'm the same way with Sweetney. I just feel as if the Knicks need a center badly, and since Curry is interested in leaving Chicago, and since Sweetney isn't the go-to guy in New York, that's why I would do the trade. However, you guys really like the guy...he's a fan favorite, and he does what he can for the team.

Same with Walton. He's a fan favorite...he does what he can in limited minutes, and he's got potential...but I bet alot of you would say that Buss should pull the trigger on a trade for Marcus Banks, but I just wouldn't do it.

Is this what you guys are talking about, then? I didn't come in here to doubt the man's abilities in the future...because I can't tell the future. I just figured he wasn't as important as getting a center...that's all.

There's more to it then that. Sweetney really has so much potential and works so hard that I think he could be too valuable to trade unless we got a real premier player in return.

Great job though, you're starting to feel us.
