Starting a war with Taiwan is not a popular tactic for the Chinese people. It would lead to Xi's removal from power. It's literally biting the hand that feeds you as Taiwan has more mainland Chinese investments and partnerships than any other country in the world. They will sabre rattle up to the Chinese New year which they've been doing for decades. China would not only face Taiwan but also the Pacific allegiance of Japan, S Korea, Viet Nam, Phillipines, Australia, Malaysia, etc...Japan is now firing up their nuclear weapons program. America will supply weapons and ammo. There are also simply too many international high tech companies based in Taiwan for China to start bombing away without serious retaliation.
