He's slightly above average in the PER department at 16 and a change of scenery is probably all he needs. Coming out of Kansas State he was College basketball's elite scorer. A season very similar to Durant's freshman year.

South Beach has too many temptations for a player like Michael Beasley. Playing in a city like Miami is probably the worst thing that could have happened to him.

He's very available this summer and if he can get his head on straight he has the talent to be a very good PF.

Yay or nay?

If I thought he was "that good" I'd possibly say yes, but I really don't think he's that good as an NBA player. One of those guys whose college game will just not translate that well to the pro game.

He'd be a score for the Blazers, IMO, but I don't think you would want to trade what he's worth to get him.

BTW there were 27 players ahead of him (only PF) for the season with a higher PER

Trade Rudy and filler for him. Might light a fire under LMA.

While the off-court stuff is a little worrisome (in the "I hope he doesn't get suspended" way, not in a "he's immoral and he makes baby Jesus cry" kind of way) maybe he is worth the risk, but one of the biggest knocks on him appears to be that Spoelstra can't seem to get him to play defense. It's tempting, but I think I'd pass -- too much risk for maybe not enough reward.

Agreed. Much more than this and I don't know he makes sense.

I can't imagine that the Heat would give him away for that, though, as they try to show Wade they're committed to winning.

Ed O.

Depends on what it will take to get him. He's crazy talented, but doesn't have a coach in MIA to hone into that talent.

Beasley? Only if we are trying to intentionally trying to build the "All Draft Bust" roster with Oden, Beasley, Rudy and Martell. We could swing a deal for Darko to round out the rotation.

lol a #24 pick is a bust? Jesus.

I'll say an easy Yay from me, but there's no chance we can get him, IMO. He'd either be used in a S&T for one of the top PFs, or used to clear his salary. Without cap space, we can't hhelp them there, but there's certain to be some team who would tak eon his salary. Just can't see it happening. But, he'd be an awesome 6th man for us. Would slide into the role people want to bring Travis back for.

Also how can it truly be the "All Draft Bust" roster without Adam Morrison.

because the Blazers actually did a good job of passing on him... but heaven forbid we mention that! It wouldnt add to the "incompetence of this front office" argument :)

I kind of view Beasley as a tweener. He reminds me a lot of Corliss Williamson, who eventually was forced to play SF full time.

Definitely a tweener. I wouldn't want him as a starter, but would love him in the role we had Outlaw in. I just can't see it happening, when they want cap space, not whatever we would have to offer.

This. If he's traded, he's going to Phoenix for Amare. Might be the best thing for him.

Yea amazingly enough that is the same role Corliss Williamson ended up on the Detroit Championship team.

Shawn Marion was also a 'tweener. A very different sort of player from Beasley, but being a 'tweener doesn't doom a player to role-player status. It is a little bit more difficult to use them, but the main thing is that you have to ensure that they create mismatches for whomever is guarding them to make up for their own mismatch on the defensive end. I think Beasley is a greater talent than Williamson, but not as good as Marion. A more diverse offensive skillset than Marion, but nowhere near the defender and rebounder that Marion is/was.

I'd be interested in him for any package not involving Roy, Oden, Aldridge, Batum or Bayless. Thus, I don't see any incentive for Miami to trade him here. Maybe if they were loading up for 2011 cap space JPEC would be interesting, but they aren't.

I like the Williamson comparison. Though, I think he's much more talented than Corliss. He just needs a coach and environment that will hone his talent.

The one thing I didn't talk about earlier is that I did want to touch on is the fact that if you have a bunch of "good guys" and have good leadership on your team, troubled players are not hard to take on. Sometimes they don't work out, but very often, if the proper player leadership is in place, it is no problem to bring a "problem child" on to the team.

From spending some time with the Heat in the first round of the playoffs, I can tell you with authority that the franchise is quite exasperated with him. They tried very hard to move him before the deadline, and now they are in a position where his cap space is worth more to him than he himself is, which is why I think they'll move him for practically nothing.

Sweet, we've got "practically nothing" in Rudy.

It would take more than just Rudy to get Beasley salary wise. Beasley will be making basically $5 million to Rudy's $1.25 million. Would it be worth it to sweeten the pot to get Beasley? His Team Option in the 2011/12 season is just over $6.2 million.

There has to be better, cheaper players out there for the role that he would play as a Blazer.
