You make a valid point. We would add three decent players plus possible 2nd rounders. We can reload and rebuild at the same time. We won't really need cap space for another 2 years.

But yes we would be relying on a rookie PG.

I think I like this deal for Okafor, a solid starting center, and the #10.

Essentially we'd be getting Okafor + Marshall (drafted @ 10) with part of our capspace. We could certainly do much worse with capspace.

Yes I'd be very interested in taking on Okafor for the #10. Emeka is a solid starter or a great backup. But I am very doubtful NOH would be interested in this type of deal; who are they going to use their cap space on? There is a $50million minimum payroll they are currently going to be a long way from hitting. A team like them needs all the young rookies they can get. I think they'd be more interested in taking on contracts to get long term assets. Such as us sending them S Williams, K Thomas for our 2015 pick lottery protected.

Yes. I agree.

Okafor can still be a legit starting center. He was hurt most of last year, of course, and he's TREMENDOUSLY overpaid, but I'm not sure that spending that same money on, say, Hibbert would be that smart. Hibbert is four years younger, of course, but he's coming off a career-high level and Okafor is coming off a career-low level... I would expect them both to revert back to the 17-ish PER that they have for their careers.

Okafor's contract only lasts two more seasons, and getting a (late) lottery pick to take on contract and getting a starting-level center in the process is a pretty good use of our cap space IMO.

My point wasn't about holding out for a better free agent it was about not taking on bad contracts in the short term and maybe holding out onto some cap room in order to allow lopsided trades after this crappy free agent class gets overpaid. Furthermore, I'm not sure the 10th pick worth taking on Okafor's bloated deal; I kind of feel like New Orleans is "winning" that trade.

now that I think about it, if you can turn say nolan, elliot, freeland, shawne williams, 40,41 and $3 million cash into okafor and 10 I think you do it.

Youll have maybe drummond, barnes, beal, lillard to pick from first at 6, then a mix of zeller, lamb, rivers, jones, pj3, marshall, waiters to choose from at 10, 11. If you can hit on the draft picks to go along with okafor, aldridge, batum, wes, joel, babbit its not a bad team. Just need the picks to be good.
