Take pity on Dame and trade him

I’m more laughing at the first post and those that said Ben Simmons is what Portland needs! We should trade CJ for him blah blah blah.

With what is happening with Simmons in Brooklyn, this sure aged well!

This has not been my sentiment and maybe it's a lack of imagination but to me the best move for us and for Dame is to move on from him. We need to get a new GM in here and see what they think but most likely they should find the best deal for Dame possible and trade him for young players and picks. I mean if we were adding a high lotto pick and Grant, there was a way to see us as a contender even if I didn't think that Dame and Ant were a fit but now??? Nah, we need to build around Ant, our pick, what we get for Dame, the rest of our young guys and the 40M in cap space we can create, so we can overpay some young players by a bit and hope they grow into it.
There is no way we can count on getting another player as good as Dame in return for Dame. He's the only All Star we have, he wants to be here and will not throw us under the bus by demanding a trade, so we should keep him until he's ready to move on. If we can somehow add a 2nd All Star to Dame we'll be miles ahead of where we have been in years. Then we can fit parts around them.

That should be the goal, IMO. And I'm happy with us swinging for the fences in an effort to make that happen. Keep swinging Joe.

Dame isn't going anywhere soon. He still got easy 4-5 years left if not more.
Dame will last a long time. He's in great shape and is a great shooter. His shooting is only going to get better. And he has said that he would be willing to consider adjusting his contract to make a deal that would put us in position to make a run.

Worth reading the comments

“Chauncey did not inspire a ton of confidence in his first year as HC. Dame showing his age at various points with a lot of injuries”

Simply inaccurate.

“nickeil alexander-walker who has some potential but big questions about whether he'll ever get there. A prospect basically.”

… not even on the roster.

It’s safe to say this random dude has no idea wtf he is talking about.

That's true.

But can we get a combination of players who provide as much or more production than Dame for the $42-49M per year that he commands over the next 3 years (or 50M+ he will command thereafter)?

There was no way we could count on getting another player as good as Gerald Wallace in return for trading him. But the organization saw the window for his career wasn't lining up with what they had in place so they rolled the dice on the unknown and made a move for the future.

We had Gerald Wallace for a year. And he wasn't our only all star.

Trading Gerald Wallace for a pick was like trading CJ for a pick. We just got lucky and the Nets tanked.

If only Denver had any assets we wanted (other than Jokic) because I would LOVE to watch a team with Jokic and Dame. Pretty dodgy defensively, but other than that...
Denver has terrible luck with giving huge contracts to players that then either get injured severely (Murray, Porter Jr.) or just become kind of invisible (Gordon).

If it's just statistical production you're looking to replace, of course we can. It's easy to find 3 guys to average 10/2 making 10 million a year. That doesn't make us a better team, though.
I mean, nurk and Eubanks can give us more production than embiid. But top end talent is more important in basketball than spreading out that production.

Dame wasn't exactly "Top-End Talent" this season, was he?

Oh and it turns out he’s a Knicks fan…

Wonder what his motivations are /sarcasm
If the Knicks win the lottery and offer their pick and a few more for Dame, I would be very willing to watch him own the Garden.

Ok. Not sure if you have a point and I'm missing it?
I'm pessimistic that we'll get much more of "peak Dame". But probably other teams are, too, and won't offer to trade for him until he's proved he's fully recovered. He's expensive damaged goods at the moment.

Damaged goods?
He will be better than ever, you know Dame he’ll want to prove the doubters wrong, thats his fuel.

Eubanks, Winslow, & Williams averaged 38 points, 18 rebounds, & 8 assists....better than Dame!! and at such a bargain!!
