So the format is changed? Last year it was 9 v 10 loser went home, winner plays loser of 7 v 8 and the loser of that third game goes home or if you want to look at it in a positive way 7 v 8 winner gets the seventh seed while the loser plays the winner of 9 v 10 and the winner of that game gets the eighth seed. I thought that was still the format.

2022 NBA PLAYOFFS
FAQ: NBA Play-In Tournament
The NBA Play-In Tournament will include teams with the 7th through 10th-highest winning percentages in each conference and take place April 12-15.

From NBA.Com:
Q: How will the Play-In Tournament be structured?
At the conclusion of the regular season but before the first round of the playoffs, the team with the 7th-highest winning percentage in each conference will host the team with the 8th-highest winning percentage in a Play-In Game (the “Seven-Eight Game”). The winner of the Seven-Eight Game in each conference will earn the No. 7 seed.

The team with the 9th-highest winning percentage in each conference will host the team with the 10th-highest winning percentage in the “Nine-Ten Game”. The loser of the Seven-Eight Game will host the winner of the Nine-Ten Game in a Play-In Game, and the winner of that game in each conference will earn the No. 8 seed.

also, Lakers open up a 2.5 game lead on the Pels for 9th seed; and the Spurs are only 1 game behind the Pels for the 10th seed....and the Spurs lead the season series 2-0 right now with 2 games left between the two teams

by the way, IIRC the play-in formula correctly, right now it looks like it will be the Clippers vs Lakers in a loser-go-fishing game in the first round of the play-in. That will be intense

The loser of the seven versus eight game does not go fishing. They host the winner of the nine versus 10 game. The loser of that game goes fishing, and the winner is the 8th seed.

So @wizenheimer the Lakers and Clippers wouldn't play each other first as of right now. The Clippers would play the Wolves in the 7/8 game and the Lakers would play the Pelicans in the 9/10 game.

What if we traded pelicans pick for grizzlies’s lakers and jazz picks. Then use Jazz pick, Keon, and bledsoe for Grant. Then use the lakers pick for spurs’ Celtic and raptors pick. Use Celtic pick, 2nd round pick, and TPE for Harrison Barnes. Then we still have our pick and raptor pick to get quality young talent
Dame/simons
Hart/ingles/pick?
Grant/little
Barnes/Winslow/MLE?/lottery?
Nurk/Watford/eubanks/pick?

but Clippers and Lakers are 8 and 9 right now so yes, it looks like the Clippers and Lakers will play each other for a loser go fishing as was originally stated.

That's a dream scenario but it never actually works out like that for us.

it has not changed and wizen was right; will probably be lakers/clippers in a loser goes home

So your just assuming that the positions will stay the same, the Clippers will lose the 7/8 game and the Lakers will win the 9/10 game setting up a win or go home game between the two teams? If so that's a helluva lot of assuming.

Not really. The Wolves are way ahead of the Clips and the Lakers are way below the Clips. Vegas would favor the Wolves to beat Clips. Then Vegas would pick Lakers to win 9/10 as they’d be at home with one of the best players ever. I can’t tell the future any better than that you and I hope Lakers lose 9/10 game if the make it, but the most likely outcome right now is Lakers/Clippers battling for 8 spot, loser goes home.

Since 2010 - 2021

We aren't tanking to have the worst record in the league or even necessarily the number one pick. We are tanking and will hopefully stay dedicated to it so we can attain the pick with the highest value as an asset because it gives us the best chance to choose between the largest amount of prospects at the top of our draft board or it just gives us the most valuable trade chip we can use to attain immediate help.

Sure, I get that. Just thought it was interesting about #1 picks and if they pop or not for a championship last 15. They still could too.

Blazers Tank 2022 End Game:

This reminds me of a couple of teams I coached where either kids weren't performing during the game or practice, I'd throw out the couple of kids that were just so they didn't have to endure playing with the guys that couldn't.

OKC doing just a masterful tank job to be in position to get to top 3 where all odds are flat for the first four picks. Last year, OKC was at #4 to start out but dropped 2 spots to the 6th pick where they landed Giddey. Don't think they want that again.

SAC just shut Sabonis down for 2 weeks. They went into the lottery last year at #9, and ended up with the 9th pick.

Detroit went into the lottery with the #1 slot and ended up with the #1 pick last year. But they clearly don't want OKC to catch them again this year.

We need to get to at least 5. These other teams are ramping up their tanks to ridiculous levels. Dropping 3 straight to the Spurs would be a start. Our current rotation is undoubtedly the worst in the NBA -- Detroit had no excuse losing last night.

the decision to activate Winslow for the Detroit game was just fucking dumb....why?
i mean... we sat out Hart for no reason too. Last night was more of an indictment on how terrible the Pistons are.

We still play the spurs twice at their place, I doubt we win either one of those. Too bad we still play the rockets and thunder twice each. Might have to sit Watford and Williams soon hehe.

can we please get sac and indy to win some games now?

it has become obvious for us Blazer fans this year that there are two primary legs of a successful tank: roster decimation and timing. Portland has done a good job of decimation. Their problem was starting the tank too late. They had 2 stretches: one was that stretch after the trade deadline when they won 6 of 8. The other was that 4 game win streak. That's a dozen games when they won 10 of 12.

If they have started their tank after the trade deadline and just have gone 6-6 over those 12 games, they'd be in 5th right now. 4-8 and they'd be in 4th

obviously, tanking takes commitment and the Blazers did not commit early enough

I still think we end up getting under the Kings in the standings. I think with their schedule it's going to take getting really lucky to get under the Pacers but obviously by the time we did commit to the tank our goal was just to put ourselves in position to get the highest pick possible and probably wasn't realistically getting down to the bottom three records. So the sixth slot in the lotto isn't a bad result.
