looks like 6th in the lottery is the best Portland can do. They won't 'catch' Orlando

a couple of ill-timed wins can certainly push Portland to 8th or 9th in the lottery

Only if Cronin decides to pull the plug and benches Dame. The remaining twelve games are relatively soft.
Yep and we play Utah, NOP, and OKC. In bubble, we were 3.5 games behind 8th with 8 games to play and we pulled it off.

I believe that's where we finished last year, then we moved back one at the lottery.
Don't believe it benefitted Dame Time and unless we luck out and get a top 3 pick not sure it will again this year?
I'm guessing we package the pick and some to acquire a proven front line player as Dame Time time requires some immediate talent help.

Maybe we could trade the Blazers pick for a proven player like Josh Hart.

I dunno. Lillard or not, the style of play we have been playing, we don’t stand a chance against too many teams. The way the Rockets have been playing they’d route us.

I’ve seen enough through preseason to see we have matchup problems and not enough size. Our bench won’t be able to score.

Bury the hatchet and let’s roll the dice, babies

I still believe this to be true. D’oh

The team Dame scored 71 on?

Since Blazers and Magic play, the Blazers are one Magic win from controlling their destiny for the 5/6th pick. Two Magic wins from having it outright.

Time to go full on tank!

two Orlando wins while Portland goes win-less in two games still doesn't put the two teams in a tie since Portland is 3 games ahead/behind in the loss column

and for lottery tiebreakers, head-2-head doesn't matter. Identical records are settled by a coin flip

Orlando looks to have the harder remaining schedule, and I am doubting that the Blazers will shut Dame down. I'm pretty skeptical that the Blazers can climb to 5th in the lottery; they may have trouble holding on to 6th

We could be only 1.5 games behind Orlando in the tank if/when we lose to the Clippers and if the Magic can beat the Lakers.

almost certain dame hurt his wrist today. keep an eye on that

Dame needs to play in 2 more games for all nba teams ... a little load management needed until then for Ant ... Jerami. Nurkic can play well and remind others he can still play. Then full tank-o-rama with Dame.

We could but I don't think we will beat either Utah or Chicago. That's the amount of games Dame said he wants to see where things are before he made any decisions about the direction things will take for the rest of the season.

It also happens to be his 57th and 58th games of the season which I think you're right would make him eligible for post season recognition as far as numbers go. I don't think there are parameters on who can and can't be on all nba teams but I do think the press that votes on that stuff looks at the lists of numbers that you're only on if you play 58 or more games.

Imagine if we actually won the lottery and got Wemby Bros

Unfortunate but this may be the best we can hope for at this point. The play in seems unlikely after dropping our last few games.

Loss column matters when you're looking at going up in the standings; win column when you want to go down-- in either situation, it's what you need the other team to get more of.

I haven't looked into it, but I thought the coin flip only settled draft position after the lottery. I'm pretty sure tied teams just get identical lottery odds.

Your analyzing this too much as if the teams are fighting for the playoffs, they are not. When looking at teams losing, their wins to date are what matters most, not losses. The Blazers are 2 wins ahead of Orlando, but since they play each other if the Blazers lose out they are only one Orlando win behind. So the Blazers need one Orlando win to control their destiny for a tie of the 5th/6th draft spot. Two Orlando wins and the Blazers outright control their destiny for sole place of the 5th draft spot.

I never said head 2 head tiebreakers matter; for the lottery the teams would split all the balls evenly for the 5th/6th spot and a coin flip to determine who drafts first if neither team jumps into the top4.

Correct and Correct.

thanks for clarifications

I'm not sure what this means though: "The Blazers are 2 wins ahead of Orlando, but since they play each other if the Blazers lose out they are only one Orlando win behind"

if the Blazers lose out and Orlando wins one of their 10 remaining games, Blazers are not tied for 5th; Orlando would be 30-52, Blazers 31-51. I must be missing your logic there

You know, NBA conspiracies can be fun...but also maddening.

For example, if the NBA had to pick (of the teams in the lotto) a team for VW to go to, wouldn't you think it'd be the Spurs?

Model franchise, stable history and strong fan support.

But if the league wanted VW to go to a city/team where they'd know he'd be around a solid pro who hasn't once let the league down and is a model player, it'd be Portland and being around Damian.

That said, I bet the #1 pick is going to Charlotte or Houston.

OR it'll be like when Cleveland got like 3 #1 picks in 4 years, and they'll give it to New Orleans to make up for Zion being injury prone. (as if Portland knows nothing about that)

I'm not really being that serious
