Being stuck in the middle ground is really hard, not good enough to win rings, not bad enough to get top picks in the draft. I'm not sure it makes me apathetic, I do find it frustrating at times though.

I guess my question is: when you go to work, do you want to feel hopeful that eventually you'll get out of it with better employees, policies, procedures, and productivity? Or just stay the course and not really try to attain anything? One breeds hope, the other breeds apathy.

Its kind of a shitty analogy, i understand... But im talking about the root, not the branches.

We're a new team with a buttload of road games and a starter who's never been in the practice facility...…..patience..December they will have 12 home games and time to work out the kinks....
I totally agree, I mean I still have hope they turn it around. I still believe they'll end up being a playoff team, and IF Nurk / Zach are even healthy this year (I don't think they will be), they'll be a heck of a team come playoff time.

I guess I see it differently, all their social media stuff, and interviews came off to me as hey you can't tell us Dame / CJ doesn't work we got to the WCF's, and NO mentioned the WCF's a ton, like making it there was the goal. This is obviously my opinion, but then when it came out Dame basically said he wasn't doing the SD trip, or any team building type exercises prior to the season, and the way they talked. It totally made me feel like just getting there was good enough. Yeah they talked about now they're a championship contender, and now they're for real, but getting knocked out of the WCF's did not seem to bother them all that much.
I'm with them.....making the WCF for the first time in 2 decades is something to be proud of.....I'm not watering that down...Dame said his legs were gone in the finals and this year he'd be better prepared for a long post season run...to me, the guys have been very transparent about the process

Road games are never an excuse.

Didnt people say that road games build chemistry? Guess thats a lie with all the bad losses.

Anyway, we will agree to disagree.

with a brand new roster and instant injury to one of your best bigs….Zach...who actually knew the plays, we've been playing 3rd stringers and rookies....Nas would have never played if Zach were healthy. Melo was just picked up.....we won 4 road games early. The Spurs return the same core and have not been better than us at all. We've also been right there in some losses, just unable to finish games strong. I think the panic is exaggerated...at one point we had Dame Zach Nurk Pau and Whiteside injured with Rodney playing through back spasms....this early stretch has a silver lining in that Nas and Trent are getting to learn how to play at this level...our bench will be better in the long run for our early struggles...Nas and Melo are going to help us a lot more than Tolliver and Hezonja

The thing with the Blazers right now to me is there is hope. We can complain about certain entities all we want, but the 2nd best player is hurt, there are young unproven guys like Little, Simons, Skal who show flashes, that's the hope. We also have maybe the best player in the history of the franchise hitting his prime.

There are definitely things I'd change or want to be changed, and there are definitely really frustrating aspects to the team right now, but I don't think it's hopeless. Now I don't feel nearly as strongly about Stotts as some here, though I'm not a Stotts fan, I don't think he's a championship level coach, but I don't think his presence makes me feel hopeless about their chances either.

And bringing up someone else who isn't even in this convo. One of the main reason I frequent this place less. and my life has been happier not reading his crap. Keep doing what you are doing, maybe he will not participate in this section at all! ;)

Then we can make this place great again! LOL
Here's the problem with what's going on. If I made that post that @riverman said but said Stotts supporters were all a certain way then I'd have people like @CupWizier on my case about my posting style and being a bully. I even had @Wade Garrett complain to the mods about me for asking him why it was okay for him to criticize Whiteside when a few minutes earlier told people to chill out on criticisms and the negative stuff because it made him not want to participate in the forum. Then a game or two later actually had posts that were obviously aimed at me doing the same thing he complained about. I chose not to respond out of respect to the head honcho asking me to avoid him.

@TorturedBlazerFan When someone makes a post calling out a specific group they are starting something. They can argue it's unintentional but then why make the post at all?

The facts are this:

Riverman said Stotts detractors want that to happen.

I responded that was false because I don't want that. The only "personal" part about that is using myself to disprove his statement. He said I was taking it personal and it wasn't directed at him but that his statement wasn't false. If I doubled down like that I would expect there to be blow back my way too. We can all, including myself, do a better job of simply saying in those situations that whoever said it didn't mean to include everyone in those situations.

So now we have Cup coming at me in a conversation that's not even about him and bringing Bones into the conversation, yet we're the ones ruining the forum? It's so damn hypocritical. All I said was that his statement was false and it was.

The Blazers could look back on the road trip and early road losses and say that it was an important time for them to bond. I heard Melo say he took them out on a players-only dinner at one point. Just because the results weren't immediate didn't mean it couldn't have helped.

why make the post at all?
dude....just don't like the post ….you've made this an epic defensive double standard from a post I made answering someone else's question that really wasn't a reply to you at all....I've fixed that post to address your point and tried to be civil while doing it.....you insulted me twice about it ...I was answering rasta's question and you're taking that personally...it's not personal..and I'll post anything I want anytime I want concerning the topic at hand....it's ok to disagree...you inserted yourself into that reply identifying with some "group"......fine...I can deal with that but you don't get to question why I post opinions anymore than I get to question your views I might happen to disagree with.....I don't point out my disagreements in your podcast comment sections because I respect your right to your opinion but honestly....I could take issue with several sticking points..they don't outweigh the points I agree with either. I think you're being thin skinned about this...I'd be happy to answer this with you via pm mode and spare the forum the long winded version

@riverman I have an honest question: Do you not view us as Stotts detractors? I'm curious. I figured you did.

@BonesJones I do...I listen to your podcast regularly and it's an area we simply disagree about...I'd add that I agree with way more content you guys provide and try to respect your right to your views.....I'd say the majority of forum members want Stotts gone....as a supporter of his I'm in the minority but I've gotten used to that over the years...I think he's the perfect coach for our culture and with execution he wins even without all-star rosters...this start has been ugly but he's as frustrated as the fans about it and I believe once he gets some practice time in to address the woes..he'll sort it out. I mentioned to hoops that I was happy to see you showing Olshey some support this year. I don't have a problem with different view points as long as all are handled with some respect concerning our team. Another example is Skal….I love the kids game but see one area he needs to improve....when I mention it within seconds people are saying....you hate Skal! Quite the opposite actually...I'm happy for you guys getting your podcast up and going.....the world can always use more Blazer content in my view..I listen to a variety of Blazer podcasts these days as I'm recovering

I think the pro tankers think when stuck in purgatory, middle ground, its easier to fall down then jump up. If you fall down, then you might be able to springboard up higher than before you fell. I can understand that thinking. however...

I see it as more of a crapshoot and think that you can also fall down and fall flat on your face and stay there for a while.

I say play the best ball possible and let the chips fall where they may. Come trade deadline is when to evaluate this team and make some decisions about the future. Until then you play hard.

This is the NBA, I find it hard to believe that players would just lay down. Their drive is typically insane just to get to this level. I don't think Dame will be happy with serious "load management" this early on. I think he will think its a white flag and he is NOT about that.

My fear is Dame sees it as a weakness and could lead to something where he says, "loyal to a franchise who is wasting my prime years on talent for the future? time to move on..."

Now, I think, come trade deadline, if we are not in the playoffs, you talk to Dame and figure trades for the expirings for quality players out there on the block, and you go for the lottery pick with load management. Talking 30 games or so. I think he would be okay with that. But to give up the season so early? well... I would think about my long term commitment to Portland if I were him.

Besides, who are the three top projected college players for the next draft? No one good enough to have a name that has made it to my ears. Will a lottery pick be an immediate contributor to a championship run next season? Possibly. Probably if there is a lebron, Giannis type of player, but if there was, I would have heard of them. It's possible, but unlikely, a lotto pick next season gets us such an impact player.

I think the Tank needs to head back into the hangar for another couple of months and not be so quick to just blow shit up. With that said, the tank may yet have its moment this season...but just not yet. Diplomacy first please....

Oh no dude, I get it. I did not mean you. You should know this. :) I meant Cup. The hypocrisy. The constant trying to call someone out when the finger pointer wasn't even part of the convo to begin with crap.
There was no reason whatsoever to bring up @BonesJones. Just another post to try to stir the pot, fan the flames. Whatever you wanna call it, while trying to look like some peacemaker by saying let it go.
New day, new thread, typical shit though...

And Ive never understood running to the mods to complain about someone on here....as if they have nothing better to do than to deal with drama.

Can we go back to green font now? I like that type of posting much better than this serious shit. :)

So if you view us as Stotts ditractors, and youre going to talk about Stotts ditractors in a general light, were going to think that you're talking about us. Cant blame us for thinking youre talking about us.

Im not even a part of this though, right? Right?

They all bring me up when I'm not even involved. I think own a lot of real estate.

c'mon…...this conversation has been beaten into the ground already.....I've been completely civil and if you think you're a Stotts detractor and would like a coaching change..then rasta's question about failure as a team accomplishing that would prove my point. It's really simple torey and I directed my comment in that context. This whole bullshit narrative about me being a guy who lumps everyone into one group is not fair to me.....I have been lumped into many camps here by many members....you lump fans into groups as well. All the time ….I don't take issue with being a "homer" who likes Stotts...you think that hasn't gotten me some flack for 8 years? That's a double standard....I avoided making it personal in context to avoid this sort of thing. If you think my experience here supporting Stotts is not putting me into a group in your mind, I'd disagree with that.....it's human nature to take stances....I took one but in a neutral context, not a personal one and got called a coward for my opinion.....misdirected in my view. Seems it's not even possible to compliment you guys without a disclaimer...this thread is about tanking...I didn't derail it by saying Stotts detractors would accomplish a coaching change by failure.

Well... Not really if you said Americans eat their babies and I dont eat my babies then Id know you werent talking about me. If I said stotts distractors feel a certain way and I didnt feel that way, Id know it wasnt about me, but like HJ Id probably say that I dont like stotts but I dont want them to lose.

Generalizations are usually not great for anyone, but its pretty easy to not feel like Im being singled out when someone makes a generalization towards a group that I would identify with, when all I have to do is a little self-reflection...

I think this topics been hammered enough though...
