TANK!

Anyone who supports tanking, especially less than 20 games into the season has a loser mentality and I wouldn't consider them a fan of the team. I'd love to see any of you tankers say it to Lillard.

Not tank but develop

If they hadn't beat up on the hornless Bulls, they would be right in line for a really good Lottery pick. Winning these games against the sisters-of-the-poor is keeping them from getting and asset and putting them right on the path to that fringe area where they either get a crappy Lottery pick, or are cannon fodder.

It really shocks me that folks don’t understand this. Run it back next year healthy and upgraded. Lakers or clippers are amazing this year as well. Nobody in the west touches those guys

I'm still mixed on if they should use this season to develop for next or not. I have too many questions before I would want a full tank.

1) How did our offense get so iso heavy and what happened to the crisp passing and ball movement we had when Stotts first arrived? Can we get back there?
2) The NBA has changed to what the Clippers run--a point guard and a bunch of interchangeable. How would the offense look if we moved CJ out and slid Hood over with some combination of Baze, Melo, Little, Trent Jr., Hoard, with the existing centers?
3) Is there a trade to be had that could provide that extra piece we need? I would obviously prefer CJ traded as I'm done with the 2-short backcourt against teams with length.

Despite his shortcomings (like every other frickin’ coach in the league) I think Stotts is a very good coach, especially for this team and this town. He is leap years ahead of Nate “Iso” McMillan. I also would love to see CJ traded but realize that that is probably not going to happen in this lifetime. I think Skal is a decent bench player who appears to be absolutely clueless on defense. And so on and so forth. Just my opinions and fuck y’all if you don’t necessarily agree. No need for anyone to get pissy about it. I love the Blazers and local life is better with them in it (regardless of record) than without them in it. Ironically, even if the team was undefeated to this point, members of this board would find something (or someone) to pick apart. Welcome to the S2 community........And I love @Strenuus despite that fact that he’s totally wrong about Stotts. and no Stren, I DON’T want a reach around......just know that I love you and be satisfied with that.
I have the impression that Nate has grown a lot as a coach; has Stotts?

Stotts is completely failing in his goal to get the first pick in the whole draft. If he only gets us the second pick, he should be fired.

If we trade the pick to go for a "title run" i ll come to Portland find Neil and punch him in the face.
This team looks terrible, we only win against bad teams. It is obvious many things are wrong. At this point you don't have to tell the players to lose, if you don't make a trade tanking will succeed anyway.

Tank time.

Tanking would be more than losing...it'd be losing Dame. He's not built that way and I'm glad he's not. Blowing up this team would mean trading our best players and becoming the Knicks for a decade and still losing....last two number one picks haven't made championship teams out of New Orleans or in the last season, the Lakers. It took demanding a trade for the Lakers to luck into AD

Look at teams like Phoenix, Sacramento, Minnesota, Clippers for many years and all the lottery picks they got over the years and still Suns, Kings and TWolves haven't sniffed the playoffs for awhile and Clippers just recently became a good team but haven't made much of a splash in the post season.

we might be losing, but we aren't tanking. Big difference between the two.

So you would rather get a 20th-something pick than a top-10 pick? I don't.

But seeing as this is Neil "What's a bad contract?" Olshey, I'm not confident in his ability to pick a decent draft pick either. So I dunno, I guess.

But what I DO know is that I'm tired of mediocrity. With the exception of last season, this team has been stuck in mediocrity hell since the team split up. We're never good enough for a championship, and we're never bad enough for a meaningful draft pick. Neil gave out stupid ass contracts that hurt our cap, and he's not great at drafting (and don't get me started with Simons or Collins; they are bench players on a championship team, overrated, Trent is a complete non-factor, and Collins was never worth a 10th overall pick).

I'm sick of that shit. Tank this season and fire Stott's worthless carcass and Neil Olshey too. Trade the dead weight if you can for picks and/or money/cap relief. Then we'll have a very good draft pick, a new GM with a fresh perspective, and hopefully a coach with a modern game plan who isn't stuck in 2007.

I maintain what I've said: Jody isn't going to put up with mediocrity. Something has got to give. Hopefully it's a tank and a new staff.

Just remember.....tanking worked for LA. Last season they couldn't buy a win and were a complete dumpster fire. Now they're the best team in the league.

And I wipe my fat hairy ass with anyone's views on my fandom for this team. I've suffered enough heart break in the past 12 years with this team to earn whatever opinion I want with tanking, and I'm riding it proudly. :irock:

How has the lottery worked for Sacramento? Phoenix Suns, Minnesota TWolves and several other teams? There is no guarantee and comparing our small market team to the lakers situation to attract players is apples to oranges. Also, do you think Lillard and McCollum just want to lay down and tank? or would accept being played limited minutes in the next 50+ games. Sorry, I stand by my position that tanking is for losers and I would bet that Jody Allen wants the team to compete to the best of their ability as that's the way her brother was also. You can have any opinion you want, just as I can have my opinion that tanking is for losers.

As for your assessment of Olshey, he has drafted Lillard, McCollum, Collins, Simons and Little. Now show me where has failed in the draft as even Myers Leonard was able to help us land Whiteside this year to help ease the pain of losing Nurkic.

Your comment regarding draft position has zero merit as we could easily end up with the 14th pick by tanking or the 15th pick by working hard and making the playoffs. I'd rather make the playoffs and get the 15th pick than a 14th pick and no playoffs.

Perhaps the best thing for this team long term that could happen would be for Dame to sprain his ankle. Nothing too bad.... just enough to have him not play, rest up his season, not get hurt worse playing meaningless games, and have everyone fully healthy next year plus pieces from Whiteside, Baze, and a high Lottery pick.

This could be a very quick reload with an even better team if they are willing to do it properly.

Has this team ever "tanked"? What makes you think they would do it now? If someone gets hurt and we lose, that could happen, but that's not tanking, but to purposely lose (which is what tanking is) is not in the dna of most athletes and definitely not in Lillard.

How has it worked for us? We've gotten one superstar in the past 7 years. Collins? He's Plumlee-lite.

LeBron did.

You can have any opinion you want, just as I can have my opinion that tanking is for losers.

That's fine. You go ahead and stay with mediocrity. But I want change; not the same old predictable ISO game plan from 2000 and unimpressive draft picks year after year after year.

he has drafted Lillard, McCollum, Collins, Simons and Little.

....and given out shitty contracts, and drafted shitty players like Patty Baseball, Biggie Swanigan, Gary "Keep The Bench Warm" Trent, Meyers "Look At My Hair" Leonard, did a bunch of nobody draft trades, and picks in the 2nd round of guys who aren't even in the league anymore. Not to mention the brilliant pick ups from last year: Nic Stauskas and Wade Baldwin.

Look at 2012 onward. I don't even know 3-quarters of these bums, and what have those trades netted us, except two defensive players who can't stay out of foul trouble?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portland_Trail_Blazers_draft_history

Lillard was Paul's pick, McCollum was drafted at the insistence of Lillard and is greatly overrated (and I think most people here have figured that out), Collins is not a starting-caliber PF on a championship team (though he is a decent bench player), Simons has a decent shot, but his small stature will hinder his abilities greatly; probably good enough for a starting rotation but likely won't be great and doesn't play Defense, and from what I hear Little fouls out in the first half (a figure of speech, but the point remains...foul magnet. And so is Collins, for that matter).

Olshey is grossly overrated, and the fact that we've barely cracked 2 rounds in the playoffs in 7 years should be proof enough of this. You can't tell me it takes more than 7 years for a competent GM to build a championship-caliber team....I don't buy that. Dame has carried this team his entire career, and Nurk stepped up to the plate last season immensely. Beyond that, we've been incredibly mediocre. Swept by the Pelicans....swept by GS.....would have been swept by the Clippers too if it hadn't been for injuries to Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. What's the hold up? Build a goddamn team before Dame is old and broken.

And now he's brought in an appalling roster of mediocrity.....Mario, Tolliver, Bazemore, not to mention the fact that those who DO play are incredibly ISO heavy. Historically so, in fact.

Overrated. Oh, and Whiteside is slow as hell and incredibly one-dimensional. Could have been worse, sure, and I like the guy, but let's not pretend like he's saving our franchise or something.

Well, we're not making the playoffs, so you can get that fantasy out of your head.

Smart tanking looks looks like losing, not tanking.

Dumb tanking looks like tanking and gets your ass fined from the commish.

They can't handle the first pick. If stotts gets them the 2nd they should give him a bonus.

Someone mentioned getting up to the #6 spot.... that it was there for the taking.

To do that and equal the winning percentage the Jazz are currently on even after a very poor stretch of play for them, the Blazers would have to finish 37-22.

That is a .627 winning percentage compared to their current .391 rate. They have 1 single win against a team with a winning record. Just don't see it.

They might not be trying to tank.... but the result is basically the same. If they were just at 6 wins instead of 9, they would be on track for a legit player/asset.

This is the most depressing team we have ever had. We're wasting Dame's prime. We're on this fucking treadmill that is the Terry Stotts era. I get why people love the Terry/Dame/CJ core, but this group will never win.
