OT Teacher Fights Student

I think more kids need to get slapped the fuck up.

I applaud this teacher.

I cannot believe that the comments appear to be unanimous in their support of the teacher. I'm incredibly disappointed. Yes, the student provoked the teacher. Yes the student hurled racist slurs at the teacher. Yes, the student threw a basketball at the teacher.

I. Don't. Care.

Adults need to be adults. To act like adults. To set an example for non-adults. To demonstrate adult judgment.

Unless the teacher was actually being physically attacked (he was not), he had no excuse for striking a student.

Send the student to the Vice Principal's office for the correct punishment. Then find that student a different classroom and teacher or transfer the student to a different school.

It boils down to essentially societal backlash to the perception that kids are out of control. That kids used to be punished if they talked back or were disrespectful, and that teachers are already an abused profession by parents and children, so when one fights back people tend to support them.

With that said, it's not like the teacher slapped the kid one time. He was actively trying to fight him, even after the kid was trying to get away.

Yeah, that's what gets me. This wasn't "discipline" or "defense". This was violent rage. Yet still, everyone's all "Good! That kid needed to be taught a lesson!" Ridiculous...

He was called an N-bomb. Isn't that justification for someone to get their ass beat?

The teacher was definately in the wrong for what he did. There is no excuse for that. None.

As for the kid, he is a clear example of how it is plain to see that all current hate culture that is running rampant in our country is being picked up by our youth whether through their parents, internet, etc. This kid wasn't just being disobedient he was mimicking learned hate. It shows the state things are in.

The teacher, school, and the school's administration will probably receive a lawsuit.

They need a badass lawyer to show how racist this little fuck is then. Hopefully other students beat his ass too. Seems like a little bitch ass.

Too bad the school won't go low like that.

They will for sure

The school will need to institute a "zero tolerance" policy for discrimination and violence if they do not have one already. I find it hard to believe they would not have one in place.

The kid is 14. He is parttoting hate. The teacher was an adult. There is no justification.

I don't care if he's 14. A little shit is a little shit.

So you think someone calling a black man an N-bomb is justified because he is a 14 year old parroting hate?

Wonder if the kid is a mexican. Its a pretty mexican area and LAUSD are having black/mexican wars.

No. But neither is it justifiable for an adult, a teacher, to strike a student.

No. It isn't. I don't care what someone calls me, my kids, my wife, my mother--there is no excuse for me responding with physical violence unless I'm defending myself or another from physical violence.

Are you black?

Such a ridiculous comment. Just because CC (and I) think something isn't worthy of a violent response doesn't mean we think it's justified.

This is the very definition of the "false choice" logical fallacy. I know you're more intelligent than this. Quit trolling.

You are whitesplaining.

Are you black?
No. Are you attempting to create some sort of "black privilege", in which a black person has a right to respond to words with violence, whereas no such circumstance exists for a white person.

Absolute hogwash. Words are never worthy of a violent response. Period.

That's white privilege. The knowledge that you haven't had to suffer as a race and dehumanized for thousands of years.

"Oh you are just overreacting."

Creating different rules for different classes of people is precisely the opposite of every civil rights and equal protection law on the books.

The whole goal of equality is for people of all "races", genders, ethnicities, etc. to be treated equally. If you are arguing for different treatment based on skin color, then you are flat out wrong.

should he have punched the kid? probably not. am i angry he did? probably not.

The point is and you said it yourself, there is no equivalent for white people of being called the N-bomb. So you can't relate to the experience and shouldn't dictate what a black person's reaction would be.
