Great point, but once again, the youth that follow the NBA and look at these players as heroes aren’t the ones who need this message. It’s the family in Kentucky whos parents proudly display a confederate flag on their truck that need to hear this message. I support the guys in what they are doing 100%, I just wish it was reaching the target audience.
Yeah it's rough man because that family in Kentucky isn't the target audience, if this message reached them, it wouldn't actually reach them but only reinforce their deep seeded position... just like preaching to the choir is doing, like you are saying. What this can do is strengthen the resolve of the base that are hearing the message and possibly push people in the right direction that are indifferent or conflicted on these issues.

What I'm seeing today that's different is that everytime a black person is shot by police...it brings up probably dozens of panic attack memories for black people...everyone from that community has been close to that and the horror of having that fear fill you up in one instance must be a living hell. It certainly impacts us all but not like it impacts people of color I'm not forgetting or watering it down

Dude 2 days? You know the powers that be got them crumbling within 48 hours.
Agreed, the players were most likely not backed by the league and owners like it's been depicted in the media, the players had to make a tough decision if they keep the cameras and mics on them in the bubble or try to make ripples by ending the playoffs and being silenced. They chose to keep playing and have a voice. I'm not going to question their reasoning, people who don't have the decision to make, far too often trivialize the plight of others who are faced with these hard decisions. Neither decision would have had the kind of impact they wanted to make so they chose the thing that they decided would be best for them and the movement. If you are questioning the players dedication to the movement, that's your prerogative, but that's a really slippery slope and a pretty serious accusation from an unreliable vantage point.

This thread is not exempt from any political entity that has caused the boycott in my view..It's not neutral entertainment right now...it's a boycott for serious reasons...

Yes, mods moved my serious post from this thread. Apparently, this thread is only to talk about schedule changes or something.

I excerpted so that you don't have to read the whole article. Kushner sure has the gall, after marrying into wealth.

...President Donald Trump denounced the league as “like a political organization.”...Trump, during a briefing at the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Hurricane Laura, criticized the NBA. “They’ve become like a political organization and that’s not a good thing. I don’t think that’s a good thing for sports or for the country,” Trump said.

It is not the first time that Trump has blasted the league. Earlier this month, Trump said some of its players are “very nasty” and “frankly very dumb.” Trump during his presidency has taken aim at Black athletes in particular, saying in 2018 of NFL players who knelt during the national anthem to protest police brutality: “maybe you shouldn’t be in the country.”

...Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and adviser, told Politico he planned to reach out to NBA star LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers about the player protests...Kushner told CNBC that NBA players were lucky to have enough money so they could skip work to protest, adding that they have “put a lot of slogans out” rather than “actual action.” Another White House official, Marc Short, was even more dismissive, calling the NBA players’ protests “absurd” and “silly.”

James, along with other NBA players and coaches, has been critical of Trump in the past. In 2018, he accused Trump of trying to use sports to divide Americans. Trump that year questioned James’ intelligence.

...Biden...and...Kamala Harris...praised the actions of the NBA players...

There are absolutely kids who love the NBA but still need to hear the message.

Good to see the push for voter engagement, after the mini-bombshell buried in the ESPN article about the players union having data showing that a very low percentage of the league is registered to vote. (I wonder how much that is affected by foreign players, or whether that's accounted for?)
