All trades are possible. Whether they are factual is my concern. I have a hard time criticizing anybody, let alone the GM of an NBA team, for not acting on hypothetical unknowns.

So when an opposing GM states that a trade was possible, and when it's widely reported that a trade was declined by the Blazers, that is not enough to convince you that it was "factual"?

It's so little evidence that it is worth comparing it to the Blazers getting LeBron?

There were no particulars offered by the OP other than that the Blazers declined trade opportunities for Carter. Whether it would have taken Batum or not is not addressed.

I don't see how anyone who would EVER believe a non-completed trade was possible would not believe that the Blazers could have had Carter but turned the deal down.

No, that's not enough. I don't trust a word that Rod Thorn says, and considering what he ended up "receiving" for Carter, I have to think that he was full of shit and was trying to save face for not unloading Carter for cap space.

I think Thorn did this to us before as well. I seem to remember Thorn using the Blazers for the Kidd trade as well. Saying that Kidd declined the deal because he didn't want to go to Portland.

Far cry from them trying to give us 2 first round picks and Carter for Raef, Channing and Outlaw. Didn't buy that rumor then, and am not buying it now. Courtney Lee was, and is, a pretty mediocre prospect. He's already 24 and has bumped his PER up from 10.7 to 10.9 so far this season. Ryan Anderson (who Orlando got back from the Nets) is just as good, and 2.5 years younger, went one pick ahead of Lee in the 2008 draft AND had a superior rookie season. It's quite likely that the two teams considered that part of the deal a push and possible Orlando preferred Anderson.

The question, though, is not what it would have taken to get Carter, but whether the Blazers could have had Carter. The original poster was making no claims about the cost of acquisition.

Comparing the possibility of getting Carter last year to that of getting James--and then deciding that the Blazers could not have had Carter at all--seems very odd to me.

Well, I don't see a question, and it wasn't pndering if we could have. He said KP was scared to make a deal for him and it would look good right now. What deal was KP scared to pull off? He clearly isn't saying any possibility of a trade for Carter would have been good, he seems to be referencing one in particular, and says KP was scared to make that deal. I think the reason his post is met with mockery is the thought by some posters that the rumored deal for Carter thrown around is highly unlikely. Especially when there were rumors that Portland offered a deal of Outlaw, Channing, and Raef, I believe, for Carter, but we're then met with rumors that we turned down essentially that AND 2 first rounders? Which one seems likely? What deal wa there that KP was too scared to make?
