That really was Wes' last game as a Blazer, wasn't it?

And after further thinking about this I think the rehab time table makes it MORE likely they end up keeping both Wes and Arron.

whats the timeline? 6-9 months?

i fully expect wes back starting by opening night next year, maybe ill be disappointed but i dont think so
i honestly wouldn't be surprised to see him come out for game six of the finals against the hawks when we win the series 4-2

i think something protecting both sides could work, something like 2 years/16 million, with a player option after the first year. he makes good, he opts out and gets a massive contract. if hes a a desiccated husk, he gets 16 million to ride into the sunset with

I was thinking the exact same thing. It seems likely that his offer from the Blazers will be lower than before the injury, (around 8 million/yr -as you alluded to) Not sure how many years, but will have a player opt out clause in the event that he comes back strong.

No chance. Wes is tough but he ain't that tough. Thanksgiving at best.

Tough call, my guess would be to offer him a min contract and see what he can do. If other teams wanna offer him more, we let it pass. We basically would offer a min deal just to see what the results of his injury are, if he comes back the same, we extend. Have to make this tough call. I don't see them doing it any other way.

Wes will try to make a comeback if the Blazers make it to the WCF.

Define minimum contract.

I would love Wes to stay, but with all the teams with money to spend and a very limited number of quality players this year, I think Wes is gone. Wes has always been an iron man and has built that reputation, making many GM's feel if ever there is an injured person to take a flier on, it's Wes. With Crabbe and CJ on deck, and AA being a capable starter, I just don't see the Blazers matching what will likely be a pretty lofty offer.

That might be the silliest thing anyones said on here. There is absolutely no chance he'll even be remotely close to being able to attempt a come back if the Blazers reach the WCF's, let alone be physically in shape by them even if by some miracle he was able to.

This isn't a sprained ankle, it's a torn tendon for fucks sake.

Although, maybe if he drinks like a fish...

Teams want to spend their money on players who are guaranteed to be ready on opening day. If he can't make it back, they'll have wasted their free agency money on a player that would become a very expensive hood ornament.

Wesley will probably only, realistically, receive an offer from the Blazers.

If Wes was their guy before the injury. They can’t go cheap on him. With all the heart and soul he has poured out for this organization and what he was willing to do for them. They need to take care of him. They need to worry about how they appear across the league with how they handle this. If they have any interest in acquiring FA’s for the future, they can’t come across looking classless and arrogant. I don’t think they will. Again, think Spurs and Patty Mills. What did the Spurs do and look at the postive press and image it caused for them. They are the organization you are trying to model your organization after.

I think Paul will take care of him. He just took care of a player in Seattle I think the GM and coach might have just let retire in Marshawn Lynch. I believe he was an Allen signing and I think Wes in the end will be Allen signing.

a hyper extended knee usually takes 2-4 weeks if nothing else is damaged, it took wes long enough to eat a can of spinach. im not saying get your hopes up, but this is the iron man, he's a walking miracle.

A can of spinach you say? Maybe he is really Popeye and no one ever knew it?

For anyone who has not yet seen this, this is from Wes today

Wesley Matthews: I would be lying if I did not admit to having tears fall down my face this morning because I was hoping to just be waking up from a bad dream. I’m sorry this response took this long but none of it felt real, and to be honest, it still doesn’t. My season is over and my will, my heart, my faith and my strength will now be tested, which is a challenge I welcome. Though my season is over, #ripcity’s season is far from over! And I will be there ‘till the end! As I read through all the messages via text and Twitter, I was in awe. I was in shock and disbelief not only because of the injury, but because I never could have imagined how many people could be genuinely hurt, sad and upset for me. To my coaches- thank you; to my brothers and teammates- thank you; to my fans and #ripcity- thank you; to my family and friends- thank you! Like most of my life, a challenge has been placed in front of me—a challenge that will be nothing but another chapter in my story. THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVE, SUPPOR T & PRAYERS. See you on the court next season. #arrowlife out. -Ironman - See more at: http://hoopshype.com/rumors/tag/portland_trail_blazers#sthash.d7kUArrE.dpuf

The good thing is, other teams can't sign Wesley to a huge contract and cause the Blazers to rush to make a move. Their free agents are all RFA, so it won't matter if their cap space is being used by Wesley on the first day or the last day of free agency.
Wes is RFA? I thought he was UFA.

Well I sure hope we don't slight him. I would hate to be the team he always shows up for

Its bigger than that mags. LA is Wes' best friend, how is he going to feel if after everything Wes has done for the team on and off the court if the Blazers slight him in any way, Aldridge is going to see that and how do you think that's going to make him feel? A man who is all about loyalty.

The answer is he walks. This isn't just about Wes in my opinion.

Wes will be back. He lost pretty much all his leverage with that injury. We'll pay him the most because we know what he brings to our team. No sane GM would put up and tie up that much money for someone who may not even be able to play at 50% of what he was.

He was still clearly a Blazer for life.

One, thanks for playing.

Two, thanks for denigrating the memory of Jerome.

If that's true then Wes is Blazer for life if he goes to Knicks? And it doesn't denigrate the memory of Jerome. He won a ring in SA. I'm sure that was very important to him.

That's what I thought you meant, but since it was your first post I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt before I told you how "unwise" that would be. But Onelifetolive already did a good job of explaining it.

This might sound weird but i think Paul Allen has learned his lesson on that one. The whole Oden and Roy scenarios kind of proved that. He stayed with those guys until the very end through and through. The Blazers simply don't disrespect their players. The fans in this city just don't allow it.

Sorry, I meant that we had all their Bird Rights, so going over the cap won't matter. Other teams can sign him to an offer sheet, and it won't change how Portland goes after LaMarcus, Arron (potentially) and Robin.
