For 3 damn quarters, AGAIN. The main reason we got back into the game is because they FINALLY changed it in the 4th. Switching a guard on Dirk has NEVER EVER worked and I guarantee Stotts is going to do it AGAIN on Wednesday.

I legitimately cannot understand why we switch a guard on to Dirk so easily. He doesn't even have to set a pick, we switched when he would leisurely walk by the ball handler. Utterly ridiculous coaching.

The fact that it's a strategy is just so beyond me. We saw in the 4th Aminu is fast enough to jump out on the ball handler and then recover on Dirk. Why Stotts INSISTS on switching a guard onto Dirk is just FUCKING STUPID.

Doesn't Stotts want to beat his mentor

This is why I'm not comfortable with Stotts being the coach of this team. Don't get me wrong, he's a good coach. But his inability to adapt on defense is beyond mind-boggling. Defense wins championships. Not trying to outscore the other team from downtown.

We need to either fire Stotts or pay a lotta money to bring in a strong defensive coach like Thibideou.. Thibs and Stotts would be a great coaching duo, but one without the other is just meh.

Still not as bad as killing 13 seconds and shooting a fadeaway three at the end of regulation. That was by design. Not the first time Stotts has called for that either.

I saw better plays out of Time Outs from the coaches in the 3rd/4th grade league I reffed this winter.

But he did adapt and moved Aminu on to Dirk.

It's good strategy. Win or OT. You can't give Dallas another shot.

I've hated Stotts most of this season, and this game is exactly why. And it's far from the first time. It's almost like he's trying to out-smart himself.

The fact of the matter is that he has the skills of an Assistant Coach who's trying to play Head Coach. It baffles me what Olshey and Allen see in him. But one thing's for sure: he needs to either go this off-season, or he needs a change of the coaching staff around him, who can better help him out. Especially on the Defensive side of things. Because this level of stupidity is just not gonna cut it.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who feels this way. Anyone here still think he deserves that "Coach of the Month/Year/Whatever" title they were rambling about giving him earlier this month? I had a good laugh over that.

The play is give the ball to Dame and have him shoot at the buzzer. I blame Dame for taking a terrible shot. It was tied so there's no reason to go for a 28 foot fade away 3. He can get to the mid range all day and get the same step back from there.

It does seem like Stotts has rigid defensive philosophys he has trouble deviating from. Giving up the midrange jumper to elite midrange shooters is another one. Chris Paul has owned us with that. Not doubling poor passing post players who are scoring at will on us. It's something I'll keep an eye on.

I'm not so mad with this one game; I just want to see improvement next game, next week, next season. The Blazers became shockingly better defensively from year 1->2 of Lopez with the same starting 5 so I'll give him a chance. Stotts offense is of no concern to me.

My main gripe with Stotts is the minutes he plays two players on back to backs. We had similar issues with our starters the previous two seasons. Partly why his teams peak well before the playoffs. But most coaches struggle with that. Thibbs is even worse than Stotts with players minutes. Amazing more coaches don't try to do what the best coach in the league has done down in San Antonio for a decade.

Thibs' calling card is defense but he coaches offense fine. Iirc Denny put some numbers out in a previous thread.

Him as DC to Stotts would negate Stotts defensive deficiencies. Thibs major problem is the allotment of minutes and the handling of rotations, something he wouldn't have the opportunity to do as an assistant.

Agree with above - Stotts is overrated.

How many times do our guards pick up their dribble - allowing defenses to tighten up.
The stupid hand offs/ give n go with wings that fool no defenses -
Horrendous PnR defense -
Overplaying players till their energy is zapped.
And the inopportune time outs that I swear he must be calling for the other team.

All things that appear so elementary for other teams.

We switch on everything, as we should.
The problem isn't with the occasional mismatches, it's when the rotations are too mellow and soft. When you switch on a player you can guard him or look like you're guarding him, that's the difference between us playing strong defense or weak defense

I warned you guys in the game thread before tip off this was going to KILL US.

My theory is Stotts just banks on the fact MAYBE Dirk will have an off day against us

I didnt quote most, and maybe missed someone post a solution, but this...

This is what frustrates me around here. Neither of you provided an alternative... an answer....

It maybe indeed be a problem, but unless you have an answer, maybe give Stotts a bit of slack that he may not have the answer yet either, oor maybe his answer was goign to be Leonard on him out in the perimeter because Dirk is slow. Many things you gfuys dont know and unless your goingto follow these up with a solution... your just wasting your breath and feeding the negativity that might very well be invalid...

This thread sucks....
Not one solution... just a bunch of bitching from wannabe coaches complaining....

Yet, when you're wrong, you never admit it. It makes the told you so's mean nothing.

If you read beyond the first post you would have seen that. Stotts DID switch it up in the 4th, finally by hedging on the guards and having Aminu recover back on Dirk, which he did, and got us back into this game.

I actually quite like Stotts. My one complaint is that he's too stubborn to make in game adjustments when his philosophy isn't working. This is just one manifestation of that.

I did read beyond the first post. Got half way through. If you notice I quoted two posts, so I had to have read past the first post...

But then I started getting sick rereading the same dribble of hate without a mention of what he could/should be doing.

To post an observation of what he did, a change, is not providing a solution or an alternative... it is merely noting that Stott's changed things up. I think you missed the point of my post.

It wasn't that we inaccurately reported what Stott's did. Its that we report with an obvious air of negativity while not providing anything positive to feed off of.

This happens waaaayyy too often around here and I am always reminded of a scene from my favorite show ever... West Wing

"Don't come to me with a problem if you don't have a solution... don't come to me with half a thing... if your smart enough to observe a problem then start working on the answer... don't just stop and bitch...."

No coach in the league has the job security that Pop does. These guys (Terry included) have to go all out to win.

How's that any different from what you do on this forum? I don't think you have any grasp of this place and what a fan message board is. If we all had solutions to every team problem, we wouldn't be here in front of computer screens.

Do I really need to acknowledge this with a response?....
Sigh... okay....

Show me where I bitch about the team with negativity, but don't provide solutions/alternatives in a positive manner?

Id like you to find one post you can quote....If you want to quote me... then quote me...

I may not provide alot of stats like some, but I try to keep from bitching without having a solution... That's why sometimes ill not post in threads.. I don't have an answer or a solution so why bitch about it? Plenty of people already do that around here....

The switching of Dirk....

Ill need to go back and watch tape(I dont think I deleted),

But here is what comes to my thought first...
What outside perimeter big do we have that you would put on Dirk?
Aminu seemed to do okay when I saw him on Dirk.

I think Stott's wasnt prepared for this game based on him thinking Leonard would be the guy yo put on Dirk. Obviously hat fell to the waste side with Meyers dislocating his shoulder. And yes I know this was like 4 days prior to the game, but what is the alternative?

So they run the picknroll, and we are switching and that puts Dame on Dirk. Who was Dame switching with? Vonleh? Davis? Plums?

How do we know that Stotts didnt tell Plums he needs to stick with Dirk, but Plums didnt, and Dame was just doing everything he can, like normal, even though he gets burned?

I would like to hear some of the thoughts, reason why Stotts does what he does, and solutions to changing the game, from some of you who are so apt to just beat Stott's down...

No I dont want to read, he does what he does because he is an idiot.. that will just prove the poster is the actual idiot...

Come on.. I challenge some of you to keep it on the up and up and discuss at length viable solutions to what you think Stotts is failing at...

I wonder if you even watched the first game they played in Portland....
