I think it's too early for Philly to trade Ben. I see them waiting closer to deadline. Saying that, if Sacramento is really out of the running then I can see a deal for CJ. Ant would not be included in any deal. Ben doesn't have that value right now. CJ, Roco/Nance and change.
agree, Morey is playing this just the way he wanted it, teams upping their offers from earlier in the year.

How about the idea that after GM change and deadline close, Blazers add some proper PG?

I have a hard time believing that

Agreed. No idea about how good Vin's sources have been in the past, but he sure does seem sure of his source. I give him props for being adamant with a time line. He is putting his credibility on the line. Then again, you can have a great source, but that doesn't mean they are always correct, or that things don't change.

I think Morey got ahold of Amick's account. :bgrin:

I would love to find a way to get Brown from the Celtics and Simmons from the Sixers. If you can somehow add those two players without giving up Dame, you have a big three that can contend.

That would be great, just not sure how it could happen. So lets say basically its CJ & Simons for Simmons

Our others assets are Powell, Roco, Nurk, Nance, Little, picks.

Seems like there would need to be a 3rd team we send multiple picks to and they send a player to Boston.

....which we can't do until our pick to Chicago conveys, or somehow we get it back.

Lol @ giving some random kid probably sitting in his room the benefit of the doubt. People really will believe anything as long as it’s something that lines up with what they want.

I'd do CJ and Ant for Simmons.... although it really sucks losing Ant with the potential of what he could bring the next decade as Lillard ages.

We still have a great starting guard on a reasonable contract in Powell. Ant is in line for a huge payday, if he continues to play well likely the max, and I'm not sure he brings a lot of value on a max contract.

Fans and teams always overvalue young players with potential... it just sucks when were wrong and if it becomes another Jermain Oneal situation.

Incorrect, we can trade multiple picks, they just have to have wording about conveying after the Chicago pick. Happens all the time.

nfw philly is doing that. how could you even type that. Portland gets a pick?? nfw

Yes, but not with the wording/protection like Neil put on that pick. It is until 2028. So you would have to trade multiple picks with wording something to the effect that they may not convey until 2030, 2032, 2034, etc. Picks multiple picks with language that they may not convey for over a decade, does not happen all the time.

I might be wrong...perhaps the most recent CBA changed... but teams can't trade a 1st more than 7 years in the future. Olshey obligated Portland's 1st's for the next 7 years. So they would be prohibited by the CBA from trading a 2029 1st. And the Septien Rule keeps Portland from trading any of their 1st's till then

the only way I see Portland having a 1st to trade, if I'm reading it right, is if the Blazers get Chicago to change the protections by simply un-protecting this year's draft pick. But that would be really dangerous because there is the chance this year's pick could end up top-4. If the Blazers un-protect that pick and their season goes even further south than it already has, they'd be screwed

the terms Olshey attached to that pick trade were fucking stupid

Exactly. I should have put in 'because of the Stepian rule', but that helps make the point even more. With the protections on the pick, and due to the Stepian rule, it doesn't "happen all the time" as was being alleged.

I still think the best path forward is to deal Dame/CJ/RoCo/etc.

Get Boston to send Brown/Smart/FRP for Dame.

CJ/RoCo/FRP for Simmons.

Then you have the choice of sending out Norm/Nurk/Nance for other pieces if you wish. Your core though is Ant/Brown/Simmons and you build around that.

Anyways, let’s move on.

If Morey is as persuaded by Ant hype over the last 7-8 Blazer games as a lot of Blazer fans, I can see him shifting gears and seeing Simons as a target for Simmons. Ant has hinted at being a decent PG and running an offense better in the last 2 weeks than CJ has in 9 seasons. And he certainly can shoot with good efficiency, three's included. And Philly would want a PG if they are trading Simmons

what if the trade is Simons + Powell + RoCo for Simmons + filler?

What would they do with Maxey, play him back up to Simons.
I think Haliburton would be a better get for pg than Simons. I do see Sac being the winner in the Ben Sweepstakes.

not sure the Kings would include Haliburton. But ok...maybe they will be the 'winner'

as I said earlier, if a trade od CJ for Simmons was just about finalized, CJ would probably not have played last night

my hunch is that tweeter was full of shit

Probably the same thing they’d do with Maxey if they got Haliburton…

And There is no way SAC is trading Haliburton.

Fox + Simmons is a HORRRRRRRIBLE combo.

exactly three weeks til the deadline.

i have my vision on what should happen, but i'll be OK if it's different from what Joe is thinking.

All i'm hoping for is conviction and consistency in the moves. If we're gonna go young, go all in. If we're gonna get vets for next year around Dame, go all in. None of this half-assed crap that Olshey has done before.

I think they stay put and do minimal tweaking

And people will stick up for Joe for it anyways.

I'm not willing to stick up for him until we see what he does in the offseason. But if he does nothing or only minimal things by the deadline, I will be disappointed.

I don't think he has the juice. I think this team will be static until they have a new GM.

We must remember the team could be up for sale and/or near a new GM being hired, both could have an effect on block buster deal most are predicting.
Joe, said it himself, he been able to stay with the Vulcan mothership for so long ,because he stays out of the way.

I think Joe will get something done but then I thought Olshey would have CJ traded before the season started.....

frankly, I'm expecting minimal action by the deadline. I think there's a lot of institutional inertia in the Blazers. Fence-straddling seems a way of life and moving both legs to one side of the fence is risky, and I'd think a big part of that inertia is risk-aversion. Trading RoCo is not risky; trading Powell or Simons or CJ or Nurkic is.

I think its funny how some seem to be assuming Joe is gonna be different from Olshey just because he seems like a more put together person lol. For all we know he could've been aligned on most of Neil's basketball thoughts. I know nothing about him. I guess only time will tell, but I'm not expecting anything significant. I'd rather be surprised than let down.
