If I couldn't get any traction with Morey in regards to Simmons I would definitely see what the most I could get out of NOLA for CJ and RoCo. If I got enough I might try to flip some of that and other assets of ours to the Knicks for Randle. I would make the agreements for the trades individually and the Toronto trade could just be pulled off by itself but in order to get the Knicks the savings that the trade gives them, there would have to be a three team trade between us, the Knicks and Pelicans. Here they are, all together. The trade fails but as of tomorrow it can go through.

I like Julius Randle but I would want him as our third option so I would make this trade as well.

I don't think that a guy can be considered green that's been in this front office for 15 years and has been an assistant GM for a while now, under a guy like Olshey who I assume delegated a lot of responsibilities besides taking other people's work to the Vulcans for the final say so and credit. Cronin was one of those other people doing work.

I'm not going to be surprised if the trade deadline comes and goes and very little has changed but I will be a little confused. Unless the Vulcans have told Cronin not to do anything, he should be doing everything he can to prove himself. Maybe the mother ship has told him that there's no rush and that he has through this off season to show what he can do but again that would be confusing because this team is shit but it's not shitty enough to get a big difference maker in the draft. So logically there should be big moves during this next week and most likely about a week from right now.

I get why the team doing zero is your guess and due to Cronin having been part of Olshey's front office and Olshey having done very little when so much was needed, I'm with you. That being said, so much change is needed. Getting the fourteenth pick or swept out of the first round again and left without a pick cannot be desirable outcomes for an interim GM who has put in his time, to say the least... and that's where we're headed. Larry will get healthy again soon and that will be just enough for us to start winning these games against these bad teams and still won't be enough for us to win games against good teams. So we'll hover around ten games under .500 which will put us in the play ins with this roster capable of winning a couple of games against other middling squads to squeak into the playoffs but not capable of beating any playoff team in a seven game series.

Dame might seem patient right now but if by the end of the season the team has done nothing to improve after all of his talk about urgency, it would almost be incumbent upon him to either demand a trade or more likely raise hell again... which is a bad look for the franchise and could cause other teams and free agents not to engage with us in attempts to get better.

I'm not holding my breath for big moves but the outcome that would make sense from the point of view of an interim GM trying to show that he can succeed, would be a lot of action. This roster doesn't fit together and is constantly delivering less than the sum of their talent and skill. Moves are what would make sense if there is any of the sense of urgency that Dame demanded but then again we got here by doing as little as possible for a decade so I guess we'll wait and see what wins the day, inertia or common sense.

Right, they don't give a shit but Cronin probably does. You would think that a guy who spent his life as a basketball player and basketball mind but also an underdog would have some competitive fire. You would think with the fact that he has no guarantees that he will get to keep this job or ever really actually have the title of GM, he would be chomping at the bit to prove what he can do. There are a ton of moves that would improve this roster or position us to start a quick rebuild and better tank... all of which would save Seattle money and reinvigorate the fan base who seem listless right now, which would result in greater cash flow.

Again I get it, we've all watched ten fucking years of a game of doing as little as possible and then claiming mediocre results as great success. I get that Cronin was part of the front office that continually did that. I just don't understand someone finally getting the opportunity of a lifetime (that merely due to his title of interim could be snatched away from him at any time) not taking full advantage of that opportunity. I don't think biding his time to pounce when the moment is right is taking full advantage. I would think that doing what he can as soon as he can to show tangible results of whatever his vision is for the future of this roster would result in a better chance at securing his future.
 
I really like Herb Jones out of NO and think he the type of player Portland should be after. I really like what Toronto is doing with a lot of long interchangeable pieces and looking back the best players that were built around Dame were long defenders at the wing. Whether it was Matthew’s and Batum or Harless and Aminu, those teams were built to support Dame’s weaknesses.

I think a very fast rebuild can be accomplished if Portland can just muster to be bad for the remainder of this season. I would look to move a lot of veterans and the team I would target is NO. They have the necessary TE’s and filler that would work for both teams. Add in Toronto to move along some salary for an expiring Dragic and a first and Portland is in great shape for the summer salary wise and multiple picks. Lots of options moving forward to move on a available top 30 player if they become available.

Bench- Schroeder, McLemore, Watford, Hart*, Precious

*Nas replaces Hart in starting lineup when he comes back.

I am way onboard with getting Herb Jones. I also like Toronto as a potential trading partner. I have Zero interest in Dragic unless there is something major Im missing. It just seems like NOP and Toronto both are getting the better end of the deal. If we got Hart and Dragic somehow went to NOP instead and then Nance instead went to Toronto Id like it a lot better. I went with your trade and tinkered a bit.

Here's what I came up with, now mind you I would still try for Simmons and/or Simmons +Jaylen Brown (the dream trade Blazerkor proposes) before this, but I like this quite a lot. The two draft picks are very tradeable assets and who knows that team looks like it could completely collapse. LeBron is willing it into the playoffs, but maybe not, and what if he gets hurt? He's not immortal. Anyways, those picks from LAL are quite nice in the sense you can move them with other assets in other trades. Having Boucher as a backup PF/Smallball Center is nice and he could even replace Nurk in a pinch if we wanted to trade Nurk for someone else. After this trade and with Nas still on the team we would have our forward rotation well and truly solved with precisely what we need 3-D guys. We also would have another backup guard in Temple on a reasonable contract. Boucher would really help as a stretch 4 and I could see Herb Jones and Anunoby holding the rest of the wing rotation. You could even go really big and play Nassir at the 2 at times. Once we have time to evaluate we can keep the guys we want and trade the odd men out all of who would be eminently tradeable. I think this trade greatly shores up the wings and front court and gives us lots of flexibility going forward.

I think the two trades would make it so we are starting Ant, Hart, Murphy or Satoranski, Simmons and Nurk (or trade Nurk for a stretch big) until Dame gets back and that team could actually do some damage this year in the playoffs and set us up really nicely for next year with Nas coming back.

I just think Morey won't budge and will continue to be stingy. It's rather unfortunate. I've counted them out as a trade partner.

It depends on how bad NOLA wants them. If CJ is the final piece to their puzzle he's by far much much better than RoCo was when we picked him up and we were willing to over pay at our best three and D guy and 2 first round picks and we weren't pick rich like the Pelicans are. So the Pelicans giving us one role player that is valuable to them in Hart, one they don't value as much in Hayes and then we take an expiring contract from them that has no value at all in Satoansky. It makes sense that they would also give two firsts given their glut of picks.

CJ is constantly mentioned as one of the best guys not to have made an all star team and when people say that they mean one of the best guys that will never deserve to be on an all star team. He's just an incredibly elite scorer, with excellent ball handling and underutilized high level passing ability. He has a skill set commensurate with the value I'm saying the Pelicans would be willing to pay. RoCo's really hasn't fallen off from when we got him. He is still one of the most disruptive defenders in the game and he's shooting the three quite a bit better than he was the season that we picked him up. At his age he still might not be worth enough to garner part of the talent the Pelicans are giving and a first but then you consider demand because there are like 7 teams that want this guy right now.

So the Pelicans get the most elite non all star scorer in the league who everyone knows could be a very good facilitator and has been when he's been called on to and they get the most in demand three and D forward right now. They give up players they don't really need and draft picks that they are swimming in.

I don't think we'll have to worry because I'm leaning way further towards us ending up very inactive despite the fact that we have a guy who is auditioning for a position that there are only 30 of in the entire world. My gut is just telling me that outside of Olshey there was no turnover from a group that has consistently done the very least possible to be able to claim that they are improving our team. Olshey couldn't have been the only risk averse person in that front office or at least he likely wasn't. So we probably will find out if I'm right about RoCo and I think we'll end up with a first rounder from trading him and if the Pelicans want him we'll likely not take back matching salary which means they'll have to use their big TPE and send us the only player on their roster that fits into our TPE. So:

That's my realist/pessimist idea of what our trade deadline movement will look like.

Problem is, the Pelicans only get the Lakers 2022 pick if it's between 1-10. It'd be very unlikely to convey to us.

To be honest if they got CJ, DJJ and three first rounders he wouldn't be budging. Everyone would know that it's an overpay because of how much of a fit CJ is for them and Morey could say that he held his ground and won. He got a player that makes his team undoubtedly better, he got a decent role player on an expiring contract and he get the three first round picks that reports say he had demanded from us.

I don't think our front office likes Simmons enough to overpay and if there's any holdover from Olshey's attitude, winning a trade means as much as if the trade improves the team.

So I think there are a couple of ways we could get Simmons but I don't think that we will. I agree that it's unfortunate because Dame hasn't sniffed playing with a guy with so many elite skills and out of this world elite size and athleticism.

Yeah I don't even know how they could trade that pick without things getting really complicated but they can trade the Lakers 2023 first and any of their three 2024 firsts.

That's pretty complicated. I think Toronto really values Anunoby and that trade would unbalance them.
 
I just don’t see how they would give up herb Jones. He’s a young mikal bridges who is arguably better than Mikal was as a rookie. But man it would be sweet.

I think they are going to want to keep OG as well, but they do have some duplication in their front court. They have no real center. Siakam is being forced to play a lot of center (which he isn't thrilled with) so that Barnes and OG can play PF/SF. Neither is really a PF as of yet, so there are 2 players, albeit good ones, that are a bit out of position. They would like a real center and have some interest in Nurkic but are trying to figure out if they should make a move for him now or think they might be able to get him in FA'cy given their cap situation.

In fact, I highly doubt if New Orleans ends up trading for CJ. It just doesn't make sense for them.

Agree on the Jones part. 50/50 on the CJ to Pels part. They badly need a bucket getter and 3-pt shooter, which CJ is. They also need to do something to improve their roster to at least attempt to get Zion to stay. But there has been so much 'noise' about this, often times, those don't play out.

After being around .500 for much of the season, they've gone on a massive tear. If they start losing again, I doubt the Philly fans will be patient.
