I'd honestly rather keep Anfernee than get that pile of manure. Or get Daniel Gafford and fuck the Lakers.

What??? I don't think that's a bad trade at all. Knecht is a BALLER. Hachimura (expiring deal and he's still young) and Christie are both solid players.

Yeah but that's a different thread. This thread is about trading Simons to Orlando which obviously wasn't going to happen.

I'm sure there's a generic Simons trade thread somewhere... I'm just too tired to go find it.

Bane is also a better offensive player. It's not close IMO.

I think they are fairly close offensively.

from Google:
In the 2024-25 NBA season, Desmond Bane and Anfernee Simons had very similar scoring averages, with Bane at 19.2 points per game and Simons at 19.3. However, Bane outperformed Simons in rebounds (6.1 vs 2.7) and field goal percentage (48.4% vs 42.6%). Simons had a slight edge in assists (4.8 vs 5.3).

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree

Bane's defense is also getting over rated a bit. I'd say a neutral defender. Yes, obviously better than Ant.

You have comparable offensive production, but Bane costs 36, 39, 42, 45 over the next 4 seasons. Anyone see Ant extending in Orlando at a number that high? And then like I said before, you can likely(at least from us fans) get Ant for 16. Or maybe even 25. You gave up 16, 3 more picks and a swap. So what would 3 picks and a wap, minus 16, fetch you? Maybe an upgrade at C over Goga and WCJ? Maybe it helps fill out your bench.

Either way, all irrelevant now!

I don't love it, but keeping Anfernee means either we extend him, and block Scoot, or he walks for nothing. I think Rui can easily be flipped to another team. I think Knecht and Christie could both be decent bench pieces, both bringing decent outside shooting, and are 22 and 24, so still both young. I'd love to extract picks as well. But maybe there's multiple 2nds in a Rui deal that come back here. OMP was just for salary to make the deal work.
Anyways, I don't love it. Might not even really like it. And I actually kind of like Ant, but it seems like it's run its course here, and bet to move along.

Holy crap!!! Four firsts ??? Is Bane really this good?
Just catching up.
Was Siakam worth what the Pacers gave for him? I bet that's what Orlando think - they have a team that is missing a thing and they believe that with that thing, they will be contenders in the East. They also probably think that with their young core their picks are going to be late first round picks for a while, so not worth much.

As long as they do not suffer the kind of injuries they had this year, they might be onto something...

So the question is not, is Bane really that good but is he that good for Orlando. There might be something there for their team and what the East looks like.

Sure but Siakam is a long, athletic power forward who can score and play defense. Bane is a short shooting guard.

Who fills a shooting and secondary playmaking need for Orlando, they have no need for a siakam like player when they have banchero and wagner, they need a good shooter who doesn't kill their defense and offers a.swcondary playmaking ability when teams concentrate on banchero.

Yeah, but players like Siakam are far more difficult to find than players like Bane. I understand wanting Bane. I do not understand trading 4 picks for him.

They traded 4 picks and ZERO (rotation) players. It's very similar to trading 2 picks, a rotation player, and a young player, which isn't really out of the ordinary.

Put another way, they gave up a lot on the "GM side", but gave up absolutely zero on the "Coach side." Usually, when you make a trade you get weaker, but hopefully not "net weaker". That's not the case here, they just got stronger.

kcp started all 77 games he played for Orlando, averaging almost 30 minutes a night. He was 3rd in MPG on the team. How is he not a rotation player?

And I don't like Cole at all, but he also averaged 18 minutes a night, and started 22 games for them. 9th man, but still rotation.

They are not rotation players on the team Orlando wants to be.

Bill Simmons made a pretty good point today. KCP's contract is 22 millions for a guy averaging 8,7 points. He was a starter during last play-off and scored 5 points per game in 32 minutes. He has 2 more years (2nd is player option but still) at 21 millions each. One of the 4 picks is only to take on this aweful salary.
