"We've been thinking about it since last summer," said Barton of playing the point. "Mo (Williams) might be coming back, Mo might not be coming back, but it was something I was thinking about either way. That's my whole thing, I really never worry about what's going on around me because I can't control that. I can't control if Mo comes back or if he does. I can't control if Coach chooses to play Mo or if he doesn't. My thing is: What can I do? So I wanted to sharpen my skills at point guard. I feel like I have a mindset for it and a skill set for it, so now it's just like, let's put it into action and see how he look doing it. I feel like, so far, I've been looking real good doing it."

Is Barton can play under control and distribute, he would be a great defender

the thrill has looked engaged and played with energy at both ends of the court in the few extended times I saw him of late

Not surprised by this given how he was used later in the season, including some minutes during the playoffs.

Of course, at times, he looked out of control and I would be asking myself, "What the fuck is this guy doing?" You'd think he was throwing the ball away and by miracle it'd make it to his intended recipient for a bucket.

I like Barton. I think the kid is a total gym rat, and I really like his potential. Sure, he isn't likely going to be a star, but I still believe he'll be good enough to hold his own as a starter, or a top-level sixth/seventh man that comes in and heats it up (Jason Terry? Vinnie Johnson?).

Will Barton thinks he's good at something

Not shocking

4th on the team in asists per minute and assist %.

werent we last in steals and some fast break cats? so... its not like thats a big deal.

I'm sure you are correct though he pushed it during the playoffs with trob running the floor. extended minutes for him might mean more of both from the blazers. got to cringe on the set shot "3". he is not much of a threat for the pull up though.

Will is certainly not a 'true PG' but he does some things very few on the Blazers roster do. He is fearless going to the basket (albeit sometimes with questionable results), is a very good rebounder for his position, can get his own shot and pushes off a rebound as well as anyone on the floor for the Blazers.

He creates plays and outside of Damian, that is a rare commodity with this group. He certainly works hard as well so if that is something he wants to put the work in towards, have at it.

It's not great but is certainly getting better. From .138 to .303 and in limited minutes, a smoking .545 in the playoffs from '3'. He still has a tendency to shoot his jumper on the way down but his form isn't bad. If he could shoot it on the way up near the top, his percentage would climb and I'm sure they are working on that.

I could see Barton becoming a Imam Shumpert type of player.

needs to at least command the defenses respect for his jumper in the P&R. remember kobe just waiting for him inside the paint during his rookie year?

Portland's Shaun Livingston?

Wild Will: 6' 6", 175 lbs

SL: 6' 7", 175 lbs

If we got McBob or Hawes I suppose we could run part of our offense through them in the high post.

In our back-up unit Will/CJ could get the ball up the court, it'd be helpful if we had a three with handles, and Robinson down low?

Of course, I'd rather not have 5 b/u's out there ever, and I don't think the platoon system is ideal, but it would give us an option to take advantage of those guys' passing. Even Monroe has a lot of passing potential. I wonder if that's something we're after specifically.

Will is the only other guy on the team, besides Lillard, who just does not give a fuck about who the opponent is, what the odds are, or if his underwear are on inside-out - he's gonna play some motherfucking basketball! And he's probably the most eloquent player on the team!
Last season Will changed my opinion of him. I hope this season he makes me believe in his PG skills.

Well stated. Love that about that guy.

Next summer...

"Well the whole point guard thing didn't really go as planned. Instead I've been watching what LaMarcus does. I think I can do that. You know, play power forward. That's my whole thing, I really never worry about what's going on around me because I can't control that. I can't control if Coach chooses to play me or if he doesn't. My thing is: What can I do? We saw this last Summer too - he was playing PG next to CJ (which rather depressed me at the time, as we were supposed to believe that CJ could play PG).

He's not totally untalented as a distributor. And oddly, being told to be a PG actually seems to make him less of a chucker, even though he has the ball more. It's like he knows he's going to have the ball again soon, so he doesn't HAVE to shoot it RIGHT NOW.
