The Bench

Mirza Teletovic -- underused big who can really shoot. A bit like Frye.

I. Thomas - instant offense who is a capable floor general. Will be an UFA this coming summer.

Larkin - coming off injury, similar skillset to Thomas.

I like Thomas. He would be awesome off the bench.

You know who's a big man who's really contributing for his (good) team and that we could have had FOR SURE? Steven Adams.

But here's a name for you: Joel Anthony. Completely fallen out of the rotation. I guess that's because Oden's taken all his minutes, like we feared.

Huh? I'm a bit slow, but Oden isn't playing

Trading McCollum or Robinson for a fringe starter like Frye, Davis, or Hinrich would be more short-sighted than moving Petro for Walter Davis. Our team is far from a finished product. Just be patient.

This.

I can't imagine why Sacramento would want to trade him, though. He's awesome off their bench too, and he's cheap.

This is correct. However, trading Leonar_ and Claver for bench depth up front would be a good move. Any 3.5 million vet bigs out there on teams that are tanking?

Brendan Haywood? Out due to injury right now, but projected to come back around new years. 7', 260, $2M salary.
Aaron Gray? Doesn't appear to be playing for Toronto. Is he injured? 7', 270. $2.5M salary. 28 years old
Tyler Hansbrough? Playing 21 mpg for the Raps. $3.1M salary. Might he be available?
Jason Maxiell? Undersized, but plays like a big. 6'7", 260, $2M salary.

What about Chris Kamen? He's getting no run with his current team.

Maybe Anderson Vaginajao. That might be the type of player I am thinking about.

If he could ever get/stay healthy I'd be be happy with Raggedy Andy ... Then again Varejao and Lopez on the same team, there's gotta be a rule about two guys with that hair being on the same team.

They are trying to make the playoffs for their LeBron pitch this summer.

We gotta look at teams rebuilding or on the verge of one.

I think we are one key player away and I think Hawes could be had, just as long as we keep CJ. Neil will have to really sell the potential of Leonard and Robinson.

It will be interesting to see where CJ fits. I don't see him getting big minutes until he proves he's completely healthy. Sad to see the
Blazers waste a draft slot since they don't have one this year.

Huh? CJ was top-5 in scoring his last two years and was also the most efficient scorer in college basketball. I think he's the SGOTF.

any idea of when hes supposed to be coming back? should be pretty soon right?

It's starting to feel like a static rotation. I understand it, but I'd love to just see some other options come out. Put Crabbe out there with Dame and Mo or something. He might help out on a broken play here and there. Just something. I know what we have is generally working, and I don't want to mess up the starters at all... but at least the 2nd unit needs some fine tuning.

Our bench: still shit. Check out the +/- over the last ten games. (Batum & Lamarcus - Gods! Thomas Robinson, goat.)

I still have hopes for T. Rob, especially since we really didn't give up anything to get him. I think he is a long way from being anything we can count on. We really need a center in a big way. Freeland moving to PF and a true back-up center would do wonders for this bench.

Mo are beyond a disappointment to me.

Mo is giving up 6.9 PER against his opponents, while Wright actually has a +1.8 PER against the players he faces. Freeland is a -8.3, but that's because he's playing center instead of PF.

Wright is a +1.8 PER against players he faces. He is a - during the game because he's with shitty bench team. He isn't the reason why our bench sucks.

Good point, and the Last 10 Games paradigm is skewed a bit because one of the games had a 32-point deficit in it.

However: every single person in our bench rotation is under 15 PER, which i normalized to be as good as the average player on an average team, which would be the 8th player (7 better, 7 worse) on that hypothetical team. So our big problem in my opinion is that our 6th and 7th men are actually playing like 9th or 10th men. Our garbage man PF is the most efficient in the bench rotation, but even he's only around the 8th.

We need a better, more consistent shooter off the bench. Maybe two.

I 100% agree with you. Mo is not the 6th man we need. I think a player like Hawes would do wonders for our bench. We would be able to slide freeland to his natural position at PF and our bench can spread the floor just as well as if we had Aldridge with Hawes.

I know Korver is out of the question now, but could you imagine if we had Korver and Hawes coming off the bench, instead of Mo and Freeland?

Why would you give any credence to the notion of "PER against"? I mean, it's obviously bullshit in an age where they got rid of illegal defense rules and defense is a team effort.

(EDIT: I would retract this criticism if it was ACTUALLY calculated by tracking (using them fancy new cameras) whomever, in this case, Wright, was "responsible" for at any time (and only for the time he's responsible for that player) and amalgamating all those stats together, rather than, as I suspect, working out the PER of the SF on the other team.)
