The Big Bang and Cosmic Inflation

Hint, I know this. You clearly do not.

You misuse the term continuously. From that it is hard to believe you know what you're talking about.

You're right in one thing. I don't consider "Big Bang" to be a theory, but rather a hypothesis. Calling it a 'theory' is a joke, and shows a lack of understanding in science.

All of space is rapidly expanding. If you do not believe we can extrapolate that these heavenly bodies were once much closer together, why not?

"Eternal" implies "time" which did not exist until the big bang.

There is not an "eternal" universe but one that is roughly 13.8B years old. There was no 13.8000000001B years ago, because time did not exist.

Actually that isn't right. "Eternal" is without time. Time isn't the measurement of something eternal.

Hi Mags.

Technically (semantically) eternal/eternity does connote temporality, as in endless time.

If the universe were eternal, it would have no beginning and no end.

As far as we know, it has no end, but all evidence points to it having a beginning.

Hey buddy! Good to see you...

That could be, but my opinion is anything that is eternal never had a beginning or end. So time isn't a measurement for that object, being, whatever...

Lmao took the words out of my mouth! BTW... Posting from the new mac pro!

well, technically infinite time is a measure of something eternal.

just semantics, not important. carry on.

crowTrobot is right.

"Eternal" denotes time - that you can go back beyond 13.8B years and keep going (if you could travel in time). It implies an infinite amount of time.

Welcome back buddy.

Welcome back buddy.

Conceptually I guess that argument is fine. It's not really a big deal because one side thinks that there was something before the Big Bang that was eternal, then other don't. It seems like one of those circle-type arguments.

Thanks glad to be back!

Not really hear to debate at the moment, just want to welcome back Mags!

How's your world?
