Well, not the Camby move itself, but..............a new twist I wasn't aware of.

FWIW.....

The Los Angeles Clippers officially found a seat at the table this summer. Earlier in the week, the team made a lateral head-scratcher in acquiring Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw from the Portland Trail Blazers.

Camby was well-liked by fans and teammates. The trade didn't seem to accomplish much of anything with both Blake and Outlaw in the last years of their contracts - as is Marcus.

On Wednesday, it became clear that the Portland deal was a preliminary move as LA became trade facilitator between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Washington Wizards.

By taking on Drew Gooden in the blockbuster that landed Antawn Jamison with the Cavaliers and Zydrunas Ilgauskas with the Wizards - LA was able to clear both Sebastian Telfair and Al Thornton off their books.

That's huge.

From the Clippers' perspective - that's a home run.

Moving Telfair and Thornton, who both had a year left on their deals, puts the Clippers at the magic number of $16 million in cap space as of July.

That's enough to make a max offer to the top-flight summer free agents - but make no mistake - this is all about LeBron James.

Considering the team's history, it would be a long-shot a best to get LeBron.

Of course, just having a chance at him is certainly worth taking.

Even if they do somehow get him, they will have a tough time staying under the cap limit, as they need to sign others to fill their roster.

If you have Lebron, Eric Gordon, Baron Davis, Chris Kaman, (a healthy) Blake Griffin and Deandre Jordan all under contract, you can round out spots 7-15 with d-leaguers and vet minimum guys and still win big.

they arent getting lebron lol.

no chance in hell

And I thought it was all about re-signing Steve Blake so Lebron could team up with him!:ohno:

Agreed, but I wouldn't be shocked if they got a pretty good free agent pick up, maybe somebody like Rudy Gay and then they'd still have enough money to add Blake or Camby back into their fold (and from what you hear out of Clipperland, the team seems to really like Steve so far :dunno:)

Well, the Clippers do play in LOS ANGELES. They have several good-to-great pieces to put around him, as Nik said:

And considering LeBron would get sole credit for 'turning that franchise around' it would make a hell of a made-for-NBA Hype story. Plus, can you imagine how much Stern would love hyping a real LA v. LA, Kobe v. Lebron rivalry? I wouldn't count it out.

Not to mention, the continuous "Who's bigger in LA....Kobe or LeBron?" slant.

I could see Bron in LA before I could see him in NY. The Knicks won't have much else on their roster if he signs there. Even if they can get LeBron AND Wade or Bosh, that team won't have anything but DLeaguers and vet minimums on their team. A lineup of Baron Davis, Eric Gordon, LeBron, Blake Griffin and Chris Kaman is pretty damn good. I'd say almost good enough to win a title next season.

And (as has been mentioned before) LeBron could pretty much name the coach he'd like to fill the vacancy that's going to be there.

Maybe he could get them to change their team name and uniform as well :)

The could follow the hockey team and become the LA Kings.

From a talent standpoint, LeBron would be hard pressed to find a better situation. It's still the Clippers though, owned by Donald Sterling. For that reason, I can't imagine LBJ choosing them.

In the back of LeBron's mind he has to be thinking he might have a career altering injury if he signs with the Clippers.
