My brother and I argued about this today: R34 v. R35

He likes the R34 for it's legendary straight-6 engine.

The new skyline, in a straight line, is quite possibly the fastest street legal car on the planet. Insanely quick.

Both are valued at $75k, they are supercars and for that price they are great value.

I'll get the top one. The R35.

But with that money, I'd rather get a Benz...AMG C63 or something. dunno, more of a looks over performance type.

Hey, Godzilla is pretty damn fast for the price. However, it is quite literally not the fastest street legal car on Earth. Not even the fastest production car, let alone just street legal car.

Nice car though.

I would take the old one, I have watched a few youtube vids of those things with 1000 or so horsepower. DAMN.

Then again, I would rather have a turbocharged big block chevelle that would eat it for lunch if we are just talking about the quarter mile.

Car & Driver tested out the R35 and they said in a straight line, Godzilla is the quickest street legal car on the planet.

However, it doesn't handle as well as a Lambo/Ferrari/FordGT/Ect. It's a heavy car.

Btw, I can't find the video but there is a clip of a twin turbo'd R34 going at full speed and it seriously sounds like a freaking jet.

I saw the new Nissan Skyline GTR at a little exotic car gathering at Bridgeport Village a few months ago.
Nice looking car, but I'd much rather have a:

Lamborghini Gallardo

my dream car... Porsche Carrera GT

^^ Insane car... but the price puts it out of even my dream list. I can dream, but not that big. :)

The revention has too many angles for my taste. It almost has a plastic-y look.

Btw, speaking of Chevelle's and old school cars, I'm a fan of resto-mods. I like a car from the 60's 70's era with a modern stance and technology. Like this Year One Firebird:

That's probably more because of the paint finish.

There are some affordable fast cars.

The Subaru STi is a beast!

It goes 0-60 in 4.6 seconds which is faster than a Porsche 911 carrera, Maserati Spyder, Aston Martin DB9.

The 2006 STi was the last year they actually looked good. I HATE the hatchbacks.

**edit**

The '09 STi's with a wide body kit actually look beastly:

Year-One actually did a ton of work on the 'Bandit' Firebird. Body work, body kit, top is chopped, lowered with a modern stance, ect.

As pure driving machines - most modern cars are too... what's the word... de-sensitized. I test drove the previous generation Mitsu-Evo and the new generation STI. Fast cars, fantastic performance - but not that exciting to drive, imho, unless you take them on a test track and can try to push them to the limit.

I would not replace my 40 years old track car for any of them... It is nowhere near as fast - but it is a lot more fun to drive.

For $75K-100K I am getting one of the following:

1. Lancia Fulvia HF Fanalone

or

2. Alfa Romeo GTA

I know those cars are probably rare but...

$100,000?!

Dude, no way!

Way, dude, Way.

The Lancia is cheaper, the last Fanalone sold in the Monte Carlo auction went for $72K...

Here are some current for sale ads:

http://www.carclassic.com/stock.asp?Ref=EF09&Lang=en

Both of these cars were the homologation racing specials, the GTA is all-aluminum with a twin-spark engine and won the European road racing championship in the mid-60s, the Fanalone was the rally-special that won Lancia their first WRC cup - aluminum body with perspex windows.

Both of these cars were offered with conventional bodies (steel) and engines that are better for the street - and even there, nice ones can set you back $30-50K...

In that case...

I'd put that twin-spark engine in another car. The exterior, IMO, is hideous.

Like, maybe a 1971 GT-R body:

Speaking of hideous cars:

DONKS

Even when Pimp My Ride had an AMC Pacer they even couldn't make it look cool!

The Atom looks like tons of fun. Did you know that a factory in southern Oregon used to build the Atom 2s that were sold in the US? I think it moved somewhere else for the Atom 3.

The only thing that worries me about the Atom is the fact that at the time they did not offer a sump-guard which makes it an expensive adventure on public roads. I used to have a Birkin S3 Lotus 7 clone - and the sump-guard got so many hits that saved the bottom end of the engine - that it was not funny.

Here is a picture of my old Birkin on old Germantown road.

Y'all are snobs. I can't believe you've dissed the styling and performance of American Motors Corporaton.

My first car was a '69 Citroen Ami 6 - which was the ugliest car ever made - I bought it at $30 - and probably overpaid... - at the time the styling of the Pacer was an inspiration for me.

I do not have a picture of my own car - but here is one of a nicer example from the web:
