age yes...big disparity
however, Layman has played 106 games and 976 minutes. Zach has played 113 games and 1,929 minutes
Jake also went to college for four years.

CoolWell I think they will prove you wrong.![]()
I swear some of Layman’s rebounds got me more excited than his points because that wasn’t a strength of his coming into the nba. Sunshine’s growing into a man and he needs to start. He’s earned that shit.
Maybe he is the super-sub off the bench that provides the spark the bench has been missing and then closes the game even if he doesn't start. Kudos where they are due, Stotts played Layman a deserved 25 minutes and he played the entire 4th quarter. (was gassed!)
Ya Nurk and Jake need to be in there together.Yeah I guess I don’t really care who starts as long as he’s in the closing lineup. I especially love the chemistry between him and Nurk. Doesn’t quite have that guy to feed him on the second unit except maybe Turner.
I already see teams defending the Blazers differently when Jake is in. They are so cognizant of the backdoor cut they over hedge and that leaves Jake open for a '3' or it opens up the screener for an open roll to the hoop. Even if Jake doesn't get a shot out of the set, the offense is more effective just because of what he does. That can make a bit impact.
Jake MUST get more playing time. I never understood the signing of Stauskas.
Jake needs to get more of the CJ shots too. He is the better shooter. CJ is tiring ...
1) Not that most of you want to give Olshey any credit, but he did trade for a 2nd rounder to get Jake from State Farm specifically. He also called his "3rd year jump," which many scoffed at.
Something else I really liked from the Jazz game.....Layman playing SG. When CJ got 2 quick fouls, instead of going lilliputian, Stotts inserted the 6'9" Layman in at the '2'......and things were just fine. It was nice having some size out there at the SG position for once an then he could seamlessly switch onto SF/PF's without it being such a huge mismatch.
More of that please.
Props to Olshey for possibly finally getting a solid contributor from the Draft outside of CJ. Arriving the week before the drafting of Dame doesn't count as it is pretty well documented that is who the front office and scouting had identified.
Yeah Jake is a mismatch on both ends at the two. There aren’t many legit 6’9 guys that move the way he does. I believe he had a top 5 shuttle time at his combine. If his ballhandling ever caught up to his athleticism.....
Listen, I shit on Olshey all the time but he also deserves credit when it’s due. No reason to hate on everything he does. His draft record going back to his clipper days is well above average compared to other GMs, even if you took out Lillard. His list of misses is very small, relatively speaking.
I gave him his props for Jake....and CJ. Outside of that, there seem like a whole LOT of misses. That may change down the road but since CJ, what has been an actual 'hit'?
I wonder if it's actually a race thing. Stereotypically, a long dude who can really jump is black. Does he get discounted because he's white? I don't really know, but his shooting is vastly improved, which is what I careYeah Jake is a mismatch on both ends at the two. There aren’t many legit 6’9 guys that move the way he does. most about. Ballhandling.... absolutely.
What do you mean by hit? Even his second rounders are contributing, which is more than you can say about the majority. Crabbe, Connaughton, Barton, Layman. He really only has one obvious miss on his record, and that’s Meyers. But if you look at that draft class, even that isn’t so bad.
I guess guys who he drafted that he signed to ridiculous contracts, gave up for nothing, or traded away that are contributing somewhere else, then yes. Perhaps I'm interested in who he has drafted that is contributing for the Blazers. Call me crazy. I already gave him props for CJ/Jake. But in 6 drafts, that doesn't seem like that great of a ratio.
Playing time isn’t up to the GM unless he forces the coaches hand, so I don’t know how you can blame Olshey for contributions. As far as the contracts given out, that’s a different story. Your premise was that outside of CJ (and I guess Layman?) he’s only had misses, which just isn’t true. I wish it was because it’s pretty much his only redeeming trait.

With this franchise, what draft misses do you see? Leonard, presumably Swanigan, and...?Ah, I see where it all went screwy. No where did I say that he'd only had misses outside of CJ/Layman. I did say a whole LOT of misses, but not only. No worries, people get sucked in by fake news all the time.![]()
Zach is a miss. These guys were all picked after him who are unequivocally better. With this franchise, what draft misses do you see? Leonard, presumably Swanigan, and...?

10. Collins
13. Mitchell
17. John Collins ( I can't get over how perfect he would be as our PF next to Nurk)
22. Jarrett Allen
27. Kuzma (one pick after Caleb, ugh)
42. Thomas Bryant (check the numbers)
Others who are just as good or in the same range: Bam, OG, Hart, Derrick White, Brooks, Monte Morris, Giles.
Unless Collins improves, this was a disastrous draft, especially because he had 3 picks going into it.
