I disagree with your math, but I understand what you're saying. I'm in my 60's so I am at risk as well. I just don't think we can wait for a vaccine before opening everything back up.
I just got back from central Oregon and people are out and about with mask and sd's but they are carrying on with their summer. At a rest stop in Gov Camp Summit (everyone know's the one) it was busy but people were being cautious.

I'm in Sunriver myself right now. Memorial Day weekend was packed!

I would still like to go on my yearly vacation in August but I might skip this year and go somewhere in Oregon I haven’t been before
How about beautiful downtown La Pine?

I’m hoping we can get up to Victoria somewhere between mid September and mid October. Hopefully things will have quieted down, virus wise. That assumes they’ll allow idiot Americans back into their beautiful country......as disappointed as I was to cancel a road trip, I am eternally grateful I did not help financially support a region that is so ignorant and backwards, and values their own personal pleasures over the safety of themselves and others. Welcome to Donald Trump’s America........
Victoria is great. Try the French Onion soup at the Old Spaghetti Factory. You'll be amazed at how good it is.
Visit the Butchart Gardens. Beautiful.
Try having high tea at the Fairmont Hotel Empress. Rooms are spendy. I've never been there but always wanted to go.
I'd suggest seeing the Fanny Bay oysters on the half shell farm. Didn't even know about it back when we went about 18 years ago. I love Fanny Bay oysters on the half shell and search for them at any seafood restaurant we go to. They're farmed right on that island.

did you get any further along in your thoughts about getting an RV?

Nah. Its more of a long term thing. Like 10 years down the road when my life slows down a bit.

I need a truck to haul it.
I need a big house or space to park it at.

More focused on international travel and fun weekend trips via plane at the moment.

Sorry, but I’m not gonna travel all the way to Victoria to eat at an Old Spaghetti Factory. Too many other, far better options (Pagliacci’s anyone?). And as many times as we’ve been to Victoria, Butchart Gardens is passé.....though I’d highly recommend going at Xmas. And Barb’s Fish and Chips on the wharf is another go to. Food is never an issue in B.C.

Ever been to a Maggiano's Little Italy? Amazingly good for a chain!

You've never had better French Onion soup anywhere. Even Portland's Ringside doesn't serve it any better. The thing I like most about The Old Spaghetti Factory is that their pasta is served al dente. I'm not overly fond of their meat sauce or their sausage. I've had their lasagna a couple of times and I won't have that again. I always order plain butter with my dinner bread because I don't care for their garlic version which is too salty. Their salad isn't great but their minestrone is better than average. I wish they had a better selection of red wine, especially the Italian red wine such as Barbera.
Never heard of Pagliacci's. My favorite Italian restaurant because of their old land style was the Monte Carlo Lido restaurant, long since closed.
Have you tried high tea at the Fairmont Empress hotel?
There's a restaurant right next to the Ferry between Washington and Vancouver B.C. at Port Angeles that serves the best Manhattan clam chowder that I've ever had in my life. No, it's not on Vancouver Island but it's worth a try when heading there from Port Angeles.

Did you take that?

I want to use it as my screen saver. That's absolutely beautiful.

Id even contemplate printing and framing and putting on my wall if I didn't have so much Blazer stuff to hang up.

Seriously. That is just an awesome picture.

Now admit it. Its not so much the photographer as much as it is making sure you are in the right place at the right time with your camera, no?

Curious if that includes all those who have filed but not been approved yet with all the delays going on?

What do they do about the people that won't go back to work because with the extra money on top of Unemployment, they are fine with sitting at home just collecting a paycheck because they make similar to what they were making at work? There are so many places trying to hire or get their people back to work as things open back up...and they are having a very difficult time filling those jobs.

Yep. Its why socialism enables laziness in my opinion and the main reason why i'm not a fan of large gov. or gov. hand outs. Whole system needs an overhaul. Welfare, unemployment, all aid.

Socialism takes away any benefit of being a hard worked. It denies anyone the ability to get ahead based on their drive and work ethic. Its denying us the freedom to make for ourselves what we want.

Now before I get jumped on by some, I'm not saying cut all aid. There are some who need it and I believe should get it, But we need to examine every case much closer and determine the need vs the want. To many people out there think there wants are a need.

An astounding world-leading 81% of the growing coronavirus death toll to our north have been nursing home residents.

Welcome to Trudeau's Canada.
Canada's deaths per capita from Covid-19 is about 58% of ours. That makes our deaths per capita 173% as great as Canada's. Welcome to Trump's America.
I'd try another example if I were you.

Unexpected

here's where I display ignorance by not reading the article but still have comment anyway:

I don't know why this is so surprising. IIRC, those employment numbers are always about 2 weeks old...or 2 weeks out-of-date compared to current numbers

well, 2-3 weeks ago is when re-opening started large scale all across the country, including here in Oregon. Doesn't it make sense that millions of people started to go back to work....and become employed instead of unemployed? Seems kind of logical there would be a major spike in employment as re-opening ained momentum

here's where you tell me why I'm wrong....:cool2:
