The duplication of Dame and CJ

How exactly would be getting worse defensively? That is our ending line up now.

Is that consistently the closing line-up? I'm not really sure... I feel like I've seen an even mix of Crabbe, Aminu, Harkless, Plumlee, Davis, and Leonard filling the other three spots alongside Dame and CJ.

Let me rephrase that, then. It can't get worse defensively than two bad defenders and one mediocre defender at the guard/wing positions, if that what it takes to get your best players on the floor together. :)

As far as a roster shake up, why do it now? If they make the playoffs with what we have....fine. If they don't, that is fine too......we get our pick. Why do you want to trade right now.

Where did I say it needs to be done right now? I think it should be done sooner rather than later, if a good offer is available, but there's no reason whatsoever to make a bad trade. It's inevitable that a move has to be made for this group of players to be upper tier successful, so you also have to weigh the possibility of lost value by waiting too long. Fire sales are never profitable.

I know the solution guys, trade them both.

Trade Tunchi to the Lakers Forum for the Blazers right to swap 2089 2nd round picks

Who loses this obviously-never-going-to-happen 12-player-trade?

Kings replace Cousins/Gay/McLemore with Young/Aminu/McCollum.
Nets replace Lopez/Young/Jefferson with Leonard/Vonleh/Gay/Henderson
Blazers new lineup is Dame/Crabbe/Jefferson/Cousins/Lopez with Frazier/McLemore/Harkless/Davis/Plumlee on the bench

Kings and Nets both lose....
Excellent! Exactly as it should be!

In seriousness though, how would you adjust the impossible deal above to make it more balanced, but still bring Lopez/Cousins to the Blazers? Impossible?

Not possible without giving up Dame. But why would we want both Lopez and Cousins on the same team? (While keeping Plumlee, no less) We would get murdered on defense starting two slow footed centers. Not like we aren't already anyways, but I think getting one is more than enough, and would leave a better balanced roster.

I wouldn't trade CJ for Lopez but if there's some sort of deal that trades CJ for Cousins, obviously I think you go for it. I doubt Sacramento is actually looking to trade him though, and if they do I think they can find better offers by shopping him around.

On a side note, I'm looking at that deal and I think RHJ is the best young "prospect" in the trade, over McLemore, Vonleh and Leonard.....and he's going to the Blazers. There's no chance Brooklyn would be including him the deal. Blazers get three of the four most valuable pieces in the deal.

I like Mase, but I think Brooklyn wins the trade in the end. RHJ is injured right now, but Brooklyn has outscored the other team when he's been on the floor, and is by all accounts a lockdown defender already. PLUS, they've got him for 4 years in a rookie deal. His lack of a jumpshot is concerning, but start him alongside 4 shooters like Dame/CJ/RHJ/Aminu/Meyers and I think our defense improves.

Well, supposedly Cousins wants (a la Aldridge) to play PF instead of C. Of course, it's irrelevant since nothing like what I posted above would ever happen, but it was something to exercise my brain this morning.

Part of 'when' to trade has to do with a players contact status. CJ is coming up on a contract decision very soon and Meyers is already a Restricted FA.

Olshey likes Lottery players than can be had for a good deal and he may see Meyers and CJ becoming very expensive with all this cap space available. I doubt anything happens with CJ at the trade deadline but this summer might be a different story.

I'm still waiting on 6 3" SG's as stars to be the norm. If that were the case, I might feel better about this going forward. Right now, it seems part of the duplicating problem

People keep throwing around 6 foot 3 as small for a SG (and I agree) but that is Dame's height. CJ is no longer that short. He is a good inch and a half taller than Dame now and even though that sounds like a small number it is a big deal when talking about a shooting guard now being 6 foot 4 and a half inches. That puts him at or slightly better than Eric Gordon height who plays SG with no problem (and only a half an inch under Bradley Beal).

CJ is taller... but Dame is not 6'3" no matter what is listed. I think he measured out at 6'1 1/2" at the Chicago Pre-Draft. I've stood right next to him as well.... Not 6'3".

Damian Lillard's official pre-draft measurements in shoes is 6 foot 2 and 3/4 inches. http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/ so yes I would say Damian Lillard is 6 foot 3 give or take a quarter inch one way or another now. CJ is not as undersized as people think. He isn't the same height as drafted. He must be a late bloomer with a growth spurt.

Dame is 6'3 in shoes, definitely not barefoot....

I really like CJ, and I think he's a good player, but long term I don't think this pairing will work and I'd like to sell high. If we can get someone like Boogie, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Has anyone compared Damian with Crabbe at the 2 with Cj and Crabbe?

Of course with shoes on. Last I checked, you don't play basketball barefoot. I not worried about Dame's height though. People are misrepresenting CJ's height now. Too bad teams don't do official measurements (that are publicly available) once a year.

Of course. I think CJ is 6'3 barefoot though. So really it's more of a 6'3 and 6'4 backcourt. Not two 6'3 guys. We're splitting hairs here though.

Yes we might be splitting hairs but CJ is noticeably taller then Dame even though they are both listed at the same height (one has grown and one hasn't):

But you're, like, 5'3", so can you really tell the difference? :devilwink:

I wanted to do that with the OP but just ran out of time.

As for Dame being about 6'3" in shoes, I buy that but then a real 6'3" player is 6'4 1/2" in shows and a 6'6" player is almost 6'8". When I stood next to Dame, we both had shoes in shockingly enough.

You mean Dame doesn't walk around barefoot?

Well this changes my whole perception of his image....

Most player measurements given are in shoes. Which NBA player's height is given barefoot?

I really wish they'd update 82games.com because it had all kinds of awesome info like that.

All I can really look at is the 7 games while Dame was out.

Crabbe during that stretch (one game without CJ) 16.5 ppg, 44-100(44%) from the field, 17-43 (39.5) from three, 3.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists.

CJ during 6 games without Dame - 26 ppg, 60-136 (44%), 16-40 (40%) from three, 6.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds, 1 steal

What I would like to see us how Crabbe played with Dame versus how he played with CJ.... And then compare that to how Dame/CJ have played together of late. (which we already have)

you won't get Boggie for CJ, Nerlens Noel is a closer value fit

As is often pointed out, they don't play with the top of their head. CJ's shoulder is what, four inches above Dame's shoulder in that photo? (Referring to reach)

What does it all mean? :breakdance:

Maybe Dames knees are bent, or CJ is up on his toes? :)
