crazy. Wife just said things are fine where she is st. Canby city limits is big though. Maybe your sister is on the eastern edge?
Well, she lives over by the swimming pool. So, not far from downtown. I don't think she is worried about the fire causing damage to the house at this point, just worried about the air quality, which is really bad. I facetimed her and she was trying to show me how bad it was in her back yard and within seconds of being outside she was hacking up a lung.

gotcha. wife just said they are moving cattle into the fairgrounds right now so if thats the case city center is fine for now.
But wait. Canby has a swimming pool? Public one?

im about to freak!

So the situation with my brother is pretty dire. 10 days ago he found his wife unresponsive laying in the front room and they resuscitated her. She went to the hospital and they were at first thinking Covid but found ventricular problem. She needed a pace maker. Problem was she had gone so long without oxygent to the brain that she lost her eyesight in the fight.
Then my Brother who is a lymphoma survivor but lost a bunch of mobility in the fight fell trying to take care of their horses and he has dislocated and injured his hip.

Yesterday while getting him out his wife was in surgery getting her pacemaker but he could not deal with it due to fires. This has been a very tough couple of weeks.
It would be a huge blow for them to lose their house right now.

We are hoping they are spared that issue. We did get their animals to safety and we will be going back in to get more stuff. Just could only move so fast last night.

This is just one family. There are more out there struggling right now.

Look, no matter what it is, no matter how big or how small, the rule of thumb is blame Sly. You don't know how many jams this has gotten me out of. And the best part of it? He's not even here to defend himself. Perfect.

What is the source of these fires? Lightning? Down power lines? Assholes?

My mom is in Newberg and is saying she’s finding very little info on what’s actually starting all these fires. I understand the wind and heat perpetuate them but why are they sparking up all over the goddamn place?

It’s hotter, drier and windier here and you don’t see the entire state spontaneously combust like that.

What is the outlier I’m missing?

The statistics show that most fires in the country are started by lightening. I also hear about a lot of fires started by stupid people who don't put out their campfires or build a campfire when it isn't safe. A very few fires are begun by demented people and those are the ones that piss me off the most.

So was Monday night like a big campfire lightning fest or what? I lived around Portland in the willamette valley from ages 0-18 and heard thunder maybe two times.

At least a few of them are from the high wind knocking things into power lines.

My Daughter and son in laws house in Estacada is a mile from the fire and the wind is crazy.

I just looked out the window and the sky is completely cloudy with a definite orange tint. Reminds me of a science fiction movie of the end of the world.

My mom is sending me a bunch of crazy pics.

My thoughts are with all of you, and your loved ones. I know what it's like living with bushfires.

Please stay safe, and leave early. Property, and possessions can be replaced, lives can't

My daughter is at Corban University in Salem. Been at level 2 evac status for a couple days now. Keeping a close eye on that Beachie Creek fire. They already evacuated the Santiam penitentiary which is right next to their campus.

Jason And Isaac have been reporting that two of them down south started by people who had gender reveal parties using fireworks.

It's all yellowish orange here in portland now

the Santiam Canyon fire was started by downed power lines. I heard PGE was considering turning off the power to the entire canyon but decided against it. Too bad they didn't. That fire has merged with the Opal Creek fire that was caused by lightning. Together, they are well over 200,000 acres, and most of that has burned in the last 48 hours

I heard that the fires around Lincoln City and Otis were also started by down power lines. They don't know the cause of the fire along the Mckenzie River yet )Holiday Farm fire) it had burned nearly 100.000 acres by this morning

having the power cutoff for 24 hours is a bit of a pain in the ass, but it sure would be better than all this damage and all this smoke.

Stay safe out there KJ!

Same to the rest of you!! Hit me up if I can do anything to help. This forum is amazing, great people brought together to cheer for a team; knowing there are things bigger than Basketball. I am so thankful to have this place and all of you. <3

@riverman @kjironman1 where do you guys live that you have to evacuate? Good luck to you guys!!!
I live in western lane county between Florence and Eugene....We're camped at our son's house not far from Autzen Stadium until we can go home and power is back...wife went out and checked today and the chickens are still there....there was a fire on Florence side and one near Fern Ridge Resevoir that smoked us out and the winds knocked the power out....could have been worse...it's really smokey here in Eugene too but my son's house has a good filter system...my cabin is unliveable at the moment...the air is like burning plastic in all my buildings....fortunately no sparks set them off yet

Any reports on wind speeds near Otis/Lincoln City? I spent a ton of time down that way growing up and they are no stranger to high winds. I mean 70+ mph at times from the west. I figured the coast range would block a lot of that east wind though...
