The forgotten free-agent point guard

Initially, I was noting him as forgotten not only by Blazer fans, but by the national media. He's the best free agent point guard available in this summer of unprecedented cap room, and most people aren't even aware that he's a free agent.

Miller is 34; Felton is 25. Felton is a better defender and outside shooter than Miller. Felton can play effectively off the ball. Miller may be a better player overall, but Felton will be around a lot longer, and would probably be a better fit next to Roy.

I don't know enough about Felton to comment. If you are right, then he sounds like he would be OK. I feel like the Blazers need to shake things up a bit. We need something else on this team. It could be a PG, maybe a new PF.
Really though that should occur at the coaching level (Thibedeau anyone? Heck I'd take *gasp* Laimbeer). We can put the Olympic team on the floor, but if Nate has the reins we will lose. One thing I will say as a caveat, is that health more then anything determined our Sub-Par season. With a consistently healthy Oden and Roy this team could look ring worthy. Will we ever get that? I don't know. God I hope so.

Due to family things I barely saw the second half of the season and got most of my info second hand of this forum with a quick read. So to sum up I'm talking out of my ass. Go Blazers!

Felton has only impressed me this season. However he has a eFG% of 44% on jump shots. Sessions was at 37.6% last year when he was a Buck.

Felton uses a below average amount of possessions when he's on the court, 19.2%. Certainly two different styles, it isn't necessarily the same situation.

It would appear he could play off the ball better in a Roy backcourt.

You're right--Felton can actually shoot the ball.

Actually, despite the fact that I started this thread, I do have a couple concerns about Felton:
a) I have a feeling that he thinks he's better than he actually is (on the other hand, perhaps he actually is better than I think he is)
b) He "broke out" in his 5th season at age 25, which is a little later than most. Is it legit, or was he a contract-year wonder?

I am very dubious that he suddenly is a good shooter. Let's look at his career FG%:

05-06: 39.1%
06-07: 38.4
07-08: 41.3
08-09: 40.8
09-10: 45.9

Does that seem like an aberration to anyone else? :)

Nash-like extrapolation coming up! He'll be a 50/40/90 guy in 3 years and MVP in 4!

Yes, but to be fair, let's look at his 2P% and 3P% separately:

Season: 2P% 3P%
05-06: 40.5 35.8
06-07: 40.7 33.0
07-08: 44.7 28.0
08-09: 43.7 28.5
09-10: 47.5 38.5

His 2P% increased reasonably in his 3rd year, and then again in his 5th. And from 3-point range, he started off decent from 3, regressed, and then apparently regained his stroke this year. It's just the combination of the two events that makes it look like significantly aberrant.

Felton vs. Sessions show different motivation methods--a contract year vs. a full rookie year in the D-League.
