Is this a warning to change our dial or to tune in? Very confusing.

He's got a beef with KP, not the Blazers. Now that KP is gone, I imagine he'd be singing our praises. ;)

He's an asshole who hates our franchise, but he has called some deals before. You're free to do as you wish.

You realize he hates on most teams right? He's like Canzano with sources in that respect, he generates page hits by writing in a controversial, confrontational style, but he gets scoops because he's so well connected. People take this shit way too personally.

Okay.

That's some kind of shit right there ... That's Kobe and Lebron money, not second tier all-star kind of money. If the Blazers had offered Brandon that kind of money I'd throw my hands up in despair.

Looks like Richard Jefferson made the right choice after all to opt out. He won't get $15mill a year but it's going to be a lot higher than what people were saying yesterday.

This whole FA spending is a fukkin joke, it's ironic so many are bingeing when supposedly a lockout occurs about all these big contracts this next summer - the owners are friggin addicts - they just cannot say no

They'd have to offer him that. The only reason they didn't is because it was Roy's first extension ,not the second, like in Joe's case.

Amir Johnson. 5 years, $34 million. Happy Canada Day!

Some of this stuff is really ridiculous. I'm betting guys like Andre Miller wish they took a one year MLE or something last season. There's no doubt they would have gotten more in 2010.

Again, we would be wise not to jump into the FA fray. These contracts are crazy and could really hinder us after the lockout.

I love Joe Johnson, but that is fucking crazy!

I agree. I don't fear the Hawks at all with or without Joe Johnson. He's being paid like a first-tier guy when he's a second or third tier guy.

paulcoro: The possiblity of Stoudemire returning to the Suns has been downgraded to "highly unlikely" by one source in the know.

My gut feeling is he's going to New York.

I like the idea of LeBron going to the Clips. It sets up a Kobe vs. LeBron rivalry which would be huge in the short term and which LeBron will inevitably win, because Kobe is already getting old. Then LeBron is king of Tinseltown, gets huge credit for resurrecting the Clippers (it would be his franchise in a way the Knicks or Bulls would never be). Nets could be a similar resurrection story, but the Knicks have no Kobe, so the story isn't as compelling.

I still want to see LeBron, Wade, and Bosh in Miami. I think it makes for an interesting story line, and for once I would like to see some players take a little less money to win championships.

I don't like that at all, because they might in fact win championships, and I'd rather see championships won by teams in cities starting with "Po".

You will. I'm sure the Timbers will be sporting numerous championship.... rings? Do they have championship rings in soccer? How about championship shin guards? Championship socks?

Derek Rose should be a $16M player right now. He's an all star, best player on his team. But he's on a rookie deal and is paid $10M/year less than he would get on the open market. So why shouldn't a guy like him (or Johnson) get overpaid to make up for it at the tail end of their careers?

Think of what Johnson has given Atlanta. Maybe not championships, but he's given them a great talent and he's helped lead them to the semi-finals the past two seasons - after the Hawks suffered 31, 28, 25, 33, 35, 28, 13, 26, and 30 win seasons.

It's not like he was on a rookie contract though. He was paid 15 million in 2009-10 (earned 68m in 5 years with them).

I like the idea of LeBron staying in Cleveland and saying, "It's my job to help attract players here to win a championship."

And Atlanta has always paid him handsomely. His FIRST contract with Atlanta, which they used to lure him from Phoenix, was criticized as too big!

I like the idea of LeBron signing for the MLE in Portland saying "It's my job to fulfill Idog1976's wildest fantasies. Here's looking at you Idog1976, don't worry baby I'll get you a custom made ring and make sure you're an honorary member of the team with plenty of photos of us hoisting the Larry O'Brien trophy together".

But that's just me.

I like the idea of turtles.

Not the real ones though. Nasty slimy things.

Huh? Every player goes through a rookie deal. You're saying any player who's been with a team for a long time deserves to get overpaid near the end of his contract? Not to mention Johnson didn't even play in Atlanta when he was on his rookie deal.
