Pretty good article from espn...it's kind of a long read but it touches on several ways to theoretically improve the game of baseball.

Some are pretty good ideas IMO...I especially liked the part about something myself and others have been screaming about for a long time, which is to finally "fix the strike zone"... I'm SOOOO sick of incorrectly called balls and strikes.

And personally, I don't see the length of games as a problem....I mean, why is it OK for a football game to last over 3 hours but it's not OK for a baseball game to last that long? As a Yanx fan, I'll watch the games whether they last 2 1/2 hours or 4 hours.

I've been hearing Manfred is going to eliminate both of these bullshit,
factors, stating they're no longer needed, and we're implemented for covid reasons.

They need to be gone these two stupid new implementations. I have no interest in these type of Little League games in the guise of MLB!

MLB home plate UMPs, have done nothing more than justify the elimination of their jobs. Bring on the computerized k-zone

Actually wrote a letter to Manfred. I am sure he will never read it or even see it. Hopefully, someone has to let be listening to the fans.

Totally agree with your Take. I don't care either how long an MLB game is or was. The game doesn't really need shortened. I don't have too much problem with the pitch clock, but even that has been abused in both ways, including the umpires penalties.

Another mega problem is, the cost to attend a game. It's cheaper for me to take four people to Disneyland and it is for two people to go to an MLB game.

The elimination of 40 minor league teams this year, was nothing more than greedy politics of MLB.

Where I live Lancaster CA was one of the 40 plus teams eliminated, after 25 years of hosting and outstanding Park, team, fans and overall blissful attendance at a minor league Stadium.
Sad thing is most of those minor league players, make less than a California welfare recipient.

Yeah, they should have left the game alone a long time ago.

Problem is, they've already needlessly altered some of the rules already....and some of the ones they implemented are not even being enforced...I mean, what. happened to the recent rule that catchers no longer allowed to block the plate?...that's never called. Judge could have been seriously hurt in yesterday's game when he was thrown out at home, and the catcher clearly blocked the plate...no call.

The 7 inning double header thing makes no sense at all...are players and fans at a greater risk of contracting covid at 9 inning games than they are at 7 inning games?...seriously? Just as bad is the inane idea of putting a runner on 2B in extra inning games.

I wouldn't mind seeing some realignment of divisions and/or playoff formats and one game W/C "win and you're in" games just don't seem fair to me. And I do believe that all division winners should have a first round bye.

I also don't have a problem with shortening the regular season and I also don't see why they can't return to all teams having 3-4 scheduled double headers each year either. Just those 2 things could shorten the season by 2 weeks. IMO, the point made in the article is spot on as to the MLB post season overlapping the NFL season by so much.

But the thing I do care the most about is fixing the strike zone...the only valid argument against using technology to determine balls and strikes is that a handful of sub-par Umps would no longer be employed...fuck 'em, because some of them are too inept to have the job in the first place.

Matts, it's also probably a much better pure game of Baseball than the MLB version...I was telling Annie just yesterday while watching the LL World Series playoffs that I get just as much enjoyment from watching kids play and watching girl's fast pitch softball as I do watching the Yanx take a lead into the 8th-9th inning and then blow it because they brought in some hot shot reliever making millions per year, only fail miserably.

You made all very good legitimate points. I would like to see the plate open back up myself, yet keep the Chase Utley rule at second, maybe perhaps?
Then again I don't care if they keep the roll at home, just enforce it!

When I heard about the computerized k-zone at first I did not care for it a couple of years ago. Now, there is such horrible Umps behind the plate, replacing them with a computer would be well justified. I'm curious what the players think about that?

I never understood why the games were reduced for covid reasons. You make the most legitimate appoints as if two innings is going to make a difference.

I would love to see the season go back to say 152 games, with 4 or 6 double headers.
I don't care for the one game wild card either. But if they're going to keep it and then by Damned give the better teams a bye in the first round, just as you suggested.

I'm glad to see NCAA players being able to garner some money in the future.
I just hope it doesn't turn anybody into primadonna's. That's one aspect of the college game I admire no primadonna's, and a lot of hustle and heart.
The NCAA College World Series, both Men's.... and women's softball we're outstanding this year.
I was glad to see Mississippi State Diamond Dawgs, beat up on Vanderbilt.

I miss little league too. Good to see it's back on TV at least in the states.

I feel like Manfred and MLB pissed in my Wheaties when they eliminated the local team as well as 39 plus others

The only thing the POS Angel Hernandez is good at, is being deplorably bad. I don't believe anything he's ever said, especially when it comes to improving himself. His lawsuit should backfire, by providing justification for his termination

This game does not need to be reinvented. I cannot remember a period in time when balls and strikes were routinely blown so badly by so many.

The technology for a computerized K-zone is sound. MLB's attempt(s) to define how to utilize it, may be its only weakness.

These are idiotic ideas:
*Bigger bases
*Mandating where infielders have to play
*Limiting the amount of pick-off attempts

Despite all this MLB thought it appropriate for him to work the 2017 All-star game, the 2017 ALDS, and the 2018 ALDS.

I truly love the game but there are things I'd consider changing....one would be both leagues pitchers would have to bat...it equalizes the world series more...I'd get rid of the intentional walk...I know it's ingrained in the game but I want to see a pitcher take on the challenge of a homerun hitter ...not give him a pass...but I absolutely agree about getting the strike zone right....they fixed it in tennis with a robot...baseball can do the same...I'd also get rid of pinch runners....let the batter run..if he's old, you take that chance..if he's injured, he sits out the game..simple..if he's hit with a pitch or injured getting to base...I'd allow it..I think more managers should let pitchers pitch their way out of a jam...not just keep throwing more relievers into the game before the guy has broken a sweat...I think this would go a long way towards improving the quality of pitching

I consider myself a conservative...and as far as Baseball is concerned, I consider myself as a purist.

Pitchers should bat...abolish the DH rule...never liked it..
