This is an opinions and response thread. Be respectful.

Will the Blazers come out on top on this rebuild?

I believe they will. The whole NBA looks at the Blazers as a bad offseason because we traded Batum, lost Aldridge, Matthews, and Lopez in free agency. But with Neil Olshey's perspective this offseason, I grade the Blazers' offseason an "A". Build they team with young, athletic talent and still got a ton of money to work with.

I would love replies to my opinion in a respectful way and to hear all of your opinions as well. Enjoy your day.

In this case grading the Blazers off season would be like grading someone on their first day of school. What has happened this off season won't be truly graded or judged until a few years from now. I do like the direction that Olshey is going in. He could have pieced together enough talent that we would be a 7th or 8th seed in the playoffs. But we would never advance beyond that.

My peeve is people not respecting other people's opinions. This might be their dream, to talk NBA professionally, and to get bashed on with their posts can change their minds.

We have a strict no personal insult rule here. You can attack someone's post or opinion but not them personally. So your post might get bashed but you personally won't. Attacking, arguing, challenging a person's views and opinions are what makes forums fun. Nothing wrong with a little debate. Attacking, name calling, insulting someone personally is pure poison.

Right. It's just me. Because if they do they might not post again, or just not care and move on.

We are probably 4-5 years from getting back to the playoffs unless we get major guys in Free Agency which is kind of unlikely.

If we tank and we get a future stud, that's probably our best hope but even from that point its a 3 year process.

The only way we will get back on top is if we have a top 10 player in the league on our team and that is unlikely for the foreseeable future. To be a championship contender, we will need a top 5 player in the league on the team.

Let the hazing commence!

For real though, I think Olshey had a couple things up his sleeve we won't expect. And it's hard to tell how these players will develop. So I have no clue

I promise to be respectful.......... That said, I'm quite sure that EVERY GM thinks that EVERY rebuild will be successful. There is no way you can really have an idea until you see these guys on the floor. Looks to me like we have 1 maybe 2 actual NBA starter quality players on the roster. I see a bunch of fantastic bench players though. Not enough assets to make big moves on the trade front.

Now I'm done being respectful......... Rookies aren't allowed to start threads until they have 250 posts! Read the rules!!!!!!

To contend we need a top 5 guy? I completely disagree. The Hawks were definitely contenders without a top 20 player on their team. One player doesn't make a contending squad.

I'm talking about in general terms. I'm not sure the Hawks are a contender next year, its kinda a flukey thing that happens every once in a while

That's right. They had an all-around team like the Nuggets, except the Hawks were successful lol

yeah but Dirk won a ring, he wasn't viewed as a top 5 or even 10 guy. The Spurs didn't have any top 10 guys in 2014 either.

They were never considered contenders, it was a freak run coinciding with dirk just catching fire for half a season.

The Spurs still had the greatest PF of all time and a top 3 coach of all time. There are exceptions but generally the contenders have the best players in the game on their team. Look, we are not going to get relevant until we get at least a second team all nba type talent on the roster

But Spurs do have 3 hall of fame'rs on the team and the best coach in the NBA. You can't really use them as an example.

Getting "back on top" implies that we were recently on top, which we never were. So to measure our team by that standard is a little disingenuous. I think we can get back to where we were (bottom-half of the Playoff seeding) within the next two seasons. Maybe we won't make it to the 5th seed, but IMO there's not all that much difference between the 5th seed and the 8th seed. Without any roster changes I think this team can achieve everything that the LMA-"lead" teams achieved.
In order to become a contender we'll definitely need a couple major roster additions - and I fully expect Neil to make a big trade or two within the year.

I think we were close with last year's squad plus the flexibility we had with our roster to improve.

I think getting to the playoffs at all are a pipe dream unless we can add an Allstar on the team.

That's why I said there's a lot of money to work with. Think we all know we are gunning for a big target next offseason. I think our team is good right now. Give players that didn't get much of a chance with former team playing time. If we don't make the playoffs, that's all good. It's going to be a fun year either way.

bingo..welcome by the way...the Hawks a couple years ago did what we're doing with some success...they've succeeded recently because of great coaching and coachable players..I think we'll follow suit and in a year will be vastly improved and add some marquis talent..it's all about coaching now

To even be successful while Al Horford was injured was impressive.

I think we could be a lot closer to relevance than many people here do. *shrug* Maybe I just drunk the Kool Aid too much, but the potential is right there. I think Meyers and CJ have a decent shot of living up to their All Star potential, and I think Ed Davis is going to do a lot of the same things for us that Lopez did. Then you have Lillard continuing to add things to his game every year. That's 4/5ths of a playoff caliber team. Vonleh has a lot of potential too, and Aminu isn't much worse than what we got out of Batum last year.

You think the ATLANTA HAWKS ARE CONTENDERS? For what? They win a bunch of regular season games in the east....... that's about it, year in and year out. Google the meaning of contender quick before you accidentally post again.
