This whole thing strikes me as bull. If I were told at any border, if you cross here your children will be taken from you and you will be incarcerated, There would be nothing left to discuss.

There's no law that states asylum seekers have to be separated from their families. It's a policy.

In fact, per Article 31 of the 1951 Refugee Convention in Geneva (which the US is a signatory) "The contracting states shall not impose penalties on refugees who entered illegally in search of asylum if they present themselves "

First of all NONE of that applies to people who are seeking asylum. You fucking know it so stop with this shit. But to quote us law:

the backlog in asylum cases was at 50,000 or something not long ago...they don't have the staff to process cases fast enough. as to people fleeing their homelands you should read Sitting Bull and the trail of tears sometimes...we split up many families during the genocide of native americans….I guess they didn't have a border patrol either or they never would have allowed Europeans to come here by the millions. Don't understand why folks are trying to make this about parenting....that didn't seem to be an issue when WWII ended...even today many stories I read about holocaust victims finally finding family members lost for decades....war refugees are not scammers...sure there are scammers crossing the border....my guess is those scammers aren't fleeing with their families from Central American horrors.
