OT The HCPJr.

Been a real tough 5 days...... my son who has battled back from missing his sophomore season of football after breaking his hand. Last season as the backup RB had a fantastic season. Scoring a TD in 6 straight games and started to draw interest from a couple colleges to come play. He continued to grind and train for this his senior season. He is now the starting RB and ready to shine.


Friday night in their season opening game the kid gets the ball on the first 4 plays and rushes for 75 yards leading them to a FG. First play on defense at LB he snaps two bones in his leg. Tibia and fibula!



Family is completely in shock, everybody. This is what this kid has been working for for years. Overwhelmed by all the family and friends reaching out to him. Antonio Harvey, Coach Rice and MB. All have known him since he was a baby. Meyers even sent him a video telling him to keep his head up.
Well today he went in for surgery and it was a success. Today is day one of his comeback. A handful of you in here reached out and that was very cool of you guys, thank you. My mind is a mess with all this going on and just needed to share. Nothing tougher to see than your child in pain like that.

Bummer. Kind of reminds me of my grandson's high school career. First he broke his ankle in the last game of the season his 8th grade year which messed up the start of his basketball season. Then his sophomore year he tears a pcl and misses the season and then his senior year with about 3 games to go he tears his rotator cuff and needs surgery again and misses the basketball season. Toss in another PCL injury and major knee surgery. Through all this I never saw my grandson play the pity game and instead held his head high.

My youngest daughter also faced a very serious ordeal going into her senior year of soccer as she was diagnosed with a large tumor in her abdomen and went through 5 hours of surgery to have it removed. Her doctor, who was a good friend as his son and my son played on the same team at FC Portland said he would do everything he could to be as least evasive as possible and was successful in being able to do it. She actually played her first game just 10 days after having major abdominal surgery that removed a 10lb. tumor. It scared the crap out of me, but she was determined and the doctor gave her permission and cleared her.

I hope your son can make a quick recovery and remind him that even though sports seems like a big deal right now, in reality it is just a small part of his life and he has a bright future ahead of him and still able to accomplish many things. Good luck to him and offer up all the support you can.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Surgery went peferct the doctor said. Been only 16 hours and The HCPJr is already trying to get back on the field.

Really lucked out. Blazers’ team trainer Geoff Clark reached out SUnday night asking me to send a picture of his X-rays to him. He forwarded them on to the team doctors and they did the rest. Blessed to have become friends with some people that know people I guess. Think of me what you will from how I put people on blast on this crazy ass forum, but I am a people person. Trying to instill in my kids to never burn bridges and to always look people in the eyes when you talk. Never know when you might need a little help in this world. Thanks for letting me share here FAMS!

Sorry to hear about that, John. My dudes are still little, but my 7 year old started soccer this year. I can only imagine how it would feel to see one of them hurt doing what they love.

He’s young and I’m sure he’ll make a quick recovery. That’s really great of the team docs to help him out.

I broke an ankle one time. Doc put a cast on my ankle that ran up to my knee. It was before I got married and I had a roommate that liked ot water his house plants every once in a while. I jokingly said, "Can I water your foot?" My cast was open at the toes. He tips his watering pot with it's long skinny spout over my toes and then quickly jerks it back. Well, the water in the spout did not jerk back and wound up going down my cast at the open toes. My leg was wet for what must have been another week until they took the cast off.

I'm trying to say that I had a week of pure misery with my wet lower leg. Just wanted you to share in some of the joys of life.

Also, while breaking your leg sucks, especially in the first game of your senior year, be thankful that it's not a knee or something that could be really tough to come back from. Thanks man. Before this had some people say he had D2 talent. Maybe he’ll play somewhere D3. I know he still wants to keep playing.

May be too soon to say, but I'd like to point out that this is the type of thing that helps him become a better man, dad and leader for the next 90 years, not just worrying about the next 4.
