Politics The Kamala Harris Thread

Kamala isn’t going to be the nominee. Despite being vigorous, she is somehow less likable than a semi-conscious Biden. She’s Hillary-level political kryptonite and polling shows this. She’s getting passed on.

There's no reason for Newsom to want to be on this ticket as VP... first of all, governor of California is probably more opportunity/a bigger job than Vice President. Secondly, if polling is at all accurate, then it's an uphill battle for Democrats and I don't see why Newsom would risk losing just for the upside of being VP.

It would be more worth it to run at the head of the ticket, but the logistics (the convention, fundraising, etc.) would be like running with one hand tied behind his back.

He's better off running in 2028 than playing second banana. He'd win and be stuck there for four or eight years, or he'd lose and might be radioactive down the road. Not everyone can pull a Nixon and withstand big election losses and bounce back... look at Rick Perry, who was governor of Texas for 12 years before he ran for President the first time at the age of 61 and he was never quite the same (he was governor for another three years and then lost in the primaries of 2016).

Newsom is going to be 57 in October... young enough to wait four years before he makes a real run but old enough that he it would be tougher to bounce back like Nixon did (at age 49) when he lost the California governor race in 1962 (after being VP for eight years, starting at age 39, and probably one televised debate against JFK from the presidency in 1960) even if politicians generally have longer careers these days.

Kamala will have trouble getting moderates, progressives or MAGA ...

Just kidding. The Dems already have largely consolidated around her and there are anti-Trumpers jumping on board.

She's going to win by more than Biden did. They better start lining up security for the Capitol and order Hawley some new running shoes now. I'm calling this one. It's over.

What happened today and probably over the last couple of days was how the Dems should have handled things earlier. Instead of panicking publicly like they did after the debate, this has all the earmarks of a lot of backroom negotiations.

As soon as Biden withdrew and threw his support behind Harris, left leaners from all sectors immediately came out as being on board and campaign rhetoric already was hitting the social media platforms running. That doesn't happen unless it was in the works.

Well, neither one is older than dirt or a felon, so there's that.
Totally agree with that.......and she's qualified as a politician at different levels. Im just not sure the Harris GN ticket would be the best combination to appeal to midwesterners and moderates?

Which Democrat, that wouldn't lose a large portion of the base (arguably larger than the midwesterners and moderates), do you propose?

Curious, from your perspective who do you think is the strongest dem candidate to go up against Trump in the general election?

I like how every candidate that the Democrats put up, according to maga, isn't smarter than Donald.

They seem to think that just saying something makes it true.

You could say it a million times, but Donald is not a genius.

He's a con man, and he's what stupid people think smart is, but he's not actually smart.

Newsom, unfortunately. Everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie but he’s silver tongued and very good at it. Or Michelle Obama based on likability. Policy means less than nothing.

You support Trump, so clearly "lying" is not an issue for you.

But what lies is Newsom famous for?

Kentucky’s Andy Beshear and Pennsylvania’s Josh Shapiro. I realize that nether is exactly midwestern but couple with Harris as a VP candidate versus Gavin, imo would be better. Just a young almost 74 year olds take. Im also not opposed to an open convention.
Who do you likes a running mate for Harris?

In no particular order, Pete, Gavin and because I know it would totally cause a massive shit storm, Michelle Obama. :) (I'm kidding about that one).

I don't think Democrats lining up to endorse Harris means back room deal. It's been clear if Biden withdraws she is obvious choice.

Kameltoe trending on Twitter.

This is a serious question.

What experience and qualifications does K Harris have in foreign relations?

I can find where she attended a state funeral, such as in Japan. But what experience does Harris have dealing with live diplomats involving foreign relations?

I wonder if Harris is accepting resumes.

I would make a great Vice President!

Vice president Harris attended international climate conference in Dubai where she also took a stronger line in Gaza and need for cease fire, meeting with diplomats from across region.

Harris led US delegation at Munich security conference. She represented US at Summit for Peace in Ukraine.

Harris represented US at both ASEAN and APEC conferences. She has made 17 trips to East Asia as VP. She has met with heads of al five US allies in the region as well as China president Xi and has visited the DMZ.

She has met President Zelensky numerous times and reiterated strong support for Ukraine.

Now tell me about Trump's foreign policy record. Trusts Putin more than US intelligence, called invasion of Ukraine smart, claims he and Kim Jong Un in love. But he has pale, well orange, skin and a dick which makes him more qualified.

Ironic how undemocratic this selection is.

Amusing how many times this has been posted already, and how weak of an argument it really is.

It's a nomination, not an election.

If for example I nominate your post as a candidate for Silliest Post of the Year, is that undemocratic?

First calls for Biden to step down.

He steps down.

Now complaining that he stepped down and the process that follows.

Lots of people attend conferences and meetings, but...

What has Harris accomplished?
