OT The Man Who Broke NBA Sports Betting and Beat Vegas

I won an 8-1 bet last season by Nottingham Forest finishing in the top 10. The bookmakers predicted they'd be a bottom dweller, and likely be relegated. I knew that during the offseason Forest had addressed the primary reason they struggled the season before, and I believed they'd at least be a mid table team, and could very well sneak into the top 10. Forest ended up 7th.

Blazers, hire this guy now

For the first Shaq title, they show him beating Nets but that was actually his third title so I don’t take this seriously.

Saw this old thread and couldn’t resist adding a thought: has anyone here actually tried applying any of the ideas from stories like this to their own NBA betting? I’m curious whether people think models still have an edge with how fast sportsbooks adjust now, or if you need something way more creative to get ahead.

It's just hard to overcome the fee on sports betting. 10-11 payout or whatever they are. I do think that very knowledgeable, very disciplined individuals can do that at times. If your a diehard Blazer fan you may have a few games a year you have better information and can make a better decision.

Nearly all people don't have the discipline to do that. Even friends who I've tried to teach are basically all betting losers. They get excited with wins or losses and make impulse decisions. You need to be extremely logical, factual, mathematical.

I make a few bets from time to time and consistently make small profits. I try to avoid betting unless it looks like a great opportunity. Not enough to be significant income but enough to where I have only betting profit and don't have to ever deposit money.

I probably get as much or more profit just from online promotions though, so also keep an eye out for those.

I'd really say if anyone is able to make income with sports betting, or poker, etc.... your probably intelligent and disciplined enough to earn 1000x more if you apply the same effort to business, investments, and a career.

So making a bit of money with those things can be fun to play around with but if you just want money there's far easier ways to earn it. Ultimately with far less work and none of the stress or losses that those lifestyles have. That's coming from someone who spent a couple years earning a living as a full time pro poker player 20 years ago.

For me it’s “Don’t bet on sports” period. I’m a sports fan. I love watching and cheering my teams. As soon as betting gets involved I’m playing with money vs emotion.
Now cards or dice I have no problem at all knowing odds and consequences as well as principles that make a difference.
