Ajayi powers No. 23 Boise State over Utah State

- During Boise State's last run at a major bowl appearance in 2010, several national media members expressed their support for the Broncos by talking about riding the Boise State Bus.

In 2014, the Broncos are riding a train toward a possible New Year's Day bowl berth -- more specifically, the J-Train.

Jay Ajayi rushed for a career-high 229 yards and five touchdowns as the Broncos crushed Utah State 50-19 on Saturday night and secured a spot in the Mountain West title game next week.

Grant Hedrick's 2 scores lead No. 22 Boise State to Mountain West title

Boise State didn't need to be perfect to beat Fresno State in the Mountain West championship game Saturday night. The 22nd-ranked Broncos just needed senior quarterback Grant Hedrick and a handful of big defensive plays.

Hedrick ran for two touchdowns and accounted for more than 75 percent of the team's offense in leading Boise State to a 28-14 win.

Boise State's defensive hold earns VIZIO Fiesta Bowl win over Arizona

The Boise State Broncos are no longer just trick-play ponies.

They did score a touchdown on a Statue of Liberty play. This was the VIZIO Fiesta Bowl, so of course they did.

But once the tricks were used up and the offensive fireworks dulled, Boise State had to grind out this VIZIO Fiesta Bowl victory with its defense.

Donte Deayon returned an interception for a touchdown in third quarter and sack specialist Kamalei Correa had his biggest takedown of the season on the game's final play, lifting No. 20 Boise State to a 38-30 victory over No. 10 Arizona in the VIZIO Fiesta Bowl on Wednesday.

Petersen falls short as No. 23 Broncos beat Huskies 16-13

Once the leader of Boise State's rise to prominence, Chris Petersen was on the verge of ending the Broncos' hopes for another special year in the season opener.

After nearly all of their 16-0 lead disappeared, the 23rd-ranked Broncos came up with enough plays to send Petersen home with a loss.

"We weren't in very good situations in this game and we still responded and were able to find a way to win," Boise State coach Bryan Harsin said.

Jeremy McNichols rushed for 89 yards and two first-half touchdowns, and Boise State withstood a second half filled with special teams mistakes for a 16-13 victory over Washington on Friday night in Petersen's return to the school he helped grow into a national power.

UNLV loses starting receiver Kendal Keys to season-ending knee surgery

Malcolm+Washington+Kendal+Keys+Fresno+State+nNoRrdxUWkPl.jpg

UNLV suffered its first significant loss of the season Friday when wide receiver Kendal Keys had season-ending surgery to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee.

A returning starter, the 6-foot-4-inch, 200-pound junior was expected to team with junior Devonte Boyd to form arguably the top receiving duo in the Mountain West.

Keys started all 12 games last season and finished second on the team to Boyd with 43 receptions, 515 yards and six touchdowns, including three in a game at Colorado State.

The San Diego native, whose older brother Kenny Keys is expected to start at free safety for the Rebels, hurt his knee in practice earlier this week.

“He felt his knee lock up on him a little bit,” UNLV coach Tony Sanchez said.

Rypien helps No. 14 Boise State hold off BYU, 28-27

When BYU lined up to attempt a game-winning field goal with 16 seconds remaining, Boise State nose tackle David Moa was struggling to get his shoe on along the sideline as head coach Bryan Harsin was pleading for someone to help Moa.

"That might have been the most stressful moment in the whole game," Harsin said. "BYU is lining up for a field goal and I can't get my nose tackle out there."

Moa managed to get his shoe on in time before he blocked the Cougars' 44-yard field goal attempt and help Boise State escape with a 28-27 victory Thursday night in a wild finish.

Wyoming upsets No. 13 Boise State 30-28 on late safety

Wyoming defensive tackle Chase Appleby didn't practice all week because he was recovering from a concussion and was "dog sick" on Thursday. It didn't show two days later.

But Appleby highlighted a resurgent Wyoming program when he sacked Brett Rypien and forced a fumble that bounced out of the back of the end zone for a safety with 1:25 left to give the Cowboys a 30-28 upset victory over No. 13 Boise State on Saturday night.

No. 19 SDSU improves to 5-0 with 34-28 win vs NIU

The No. 19 San Diego State Aztecs didn't take too kindly to seeing star running back Rashaad Penny coming off the field in pain after having his right eye gouged by a Northern Illinois player in the second quarter Saturday night.

"It got us fired up," cornerback Kameron Kelly said after the Aztecs got some big plays early and then held off NIU 34-28 to improve to 5-0 for the first time since 1975. Juwan Washington brought back the opening kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown and freshman Tariq Thompson had two interceptions -- including an 83-yard TD return.

Rypien throws for 300 yards, 3 TDs; Boise St. tops Air Force

Boise State rallies to beat No. 25 Fresno State 17-14

Boise State quarterback Brett Rypien struggled so much early in the season, he lost playing time to Kansas graduate transfer Montell Cozart. However, the highly-touted signal caller and nephew of Super Bowl winning quarterback Mark Rypien remained focused on the one thing he wanted more than anything -- a championship.

Saturday night, he got what he came for.

Rypien threw for 246 yards and engineered a 90-yard scoring drive late in the fourth quarter to help Boise State upend No. 25 Fresno State 17-14 to win the Mountain West Conference championship.
