Ahhhh, there's that respectful political back-and-forth discussion that we've grown to love on S2.

barfo describes himself as a "Commie Pinko" in his own profile.

He also makes a point to have purple in his avatar, and always has had purple in his avatar.

Seems like he's saying he is a commie pinko who loves the color of purple, which is a symbolic color for that ilk. I've noticed both for years. They like an obvious statement to me about his beliefs.

Dunno. Seems like I was pointing out the obvious, Chris. Anyhow, how is the blood pressure these days?

No threats were issued against Palin. She just did not like being criticized, which she compared to the "blood libel" of millions of Jews. Palin has victimology down to a fine art. Besides, by cutting out on the charity event she can now attend a Republican event instead.

This is true. Of course, I thought it was a joke, as I'm actually a capitalist by trade. But perhaps it isn't.

Interesting. I was unaware that the color purple was indicative of communism. I had thought I chose the avatar for the pirate rather than the color, but I'll take your word for it.

I see that purple is the color of the Swedish Pirate Party, so that's something.

I always associated purple with "the homosexual agenda." And yes, I did put my tin-foil hat on when I typed that out.

For the record, Sarah Palin voiced her support for GOProud to attend CPAC. Some of the socially conservative organizations wanted to keep them out. Good for her.

Exhibit A of what is wrong with this country.

I wonder if it's just a backlash against a woman trying to hold the top office of the country. Barney Frank says some memorably stupid stuff, but he's not called out. Nancy Pelosi is, well, I won't go there, but maybe b/c she's happy being #3 and not #2 or #1 in line she's not told to stfu for her opinions. Hillary Clinton, one of the sharper women I've heard speak, was trashed for almost a year by the left and other people who wanted to vote for "change".

Maybe these people who just want her to stfu should recognize women who want to be in positions of leadership are minorities as well, and deserving the same kind of civility and look-the-other-way-ness that marked the current President's campaign. Or maybe it's a hate based off of religious ideals? Either way, you're in the wrong. I'd recommend looking in the mirror and analyzing what you're about before inserting yourself as part of the problem, not as part of the solution

Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi aren't called out? They are, all the time. You just did it yourself.

For my part, I think she is just plain stupid. That said, she is good at local grass root type stuff, but she was a flop as guv of Alaska and it is incomprehensible to even think of her as President. If she is nominated by her party to run foe the presidency, then I'll lose all hope for that party.

Really? I've started a "never-ending Nancy Pelosi should STFU" thread? Or one for Barney Frank? I haven't seen anywhere on here where Pelosi's or Frank's words were dismissed out of hand because they were "fucking stupid". Or Patty Murray's. Or the President's. I did see it a bunch when talking about the witch lady from Delaware and Palin.

So maybe it isn't women in general, but women that are associated with the Tea Party. Which starts to make sense, now.

I don't buy Palin as a symbol of either womanhood or religiosity. If it was religion, logically Huckabee would also be told to stfu, since he's more overtly religious. Yet no one tells Huckabee to stfu. As for women, I think we all know enough women to know Palin isn't the archetype of her gender. No, unfortunately for your argument Palin is an individual, with her very own image.

Either way, you're in the wrong. I'd recommend looking in the mirror and analyzing what you're about before inserting yourself as part of the problem, not as part of the solution

Is part of the solution making generalized accusations of bias like you've done here?

Really? I've started a "never-ending Nancy Pelosi should STFU" thread? Or one for Barney Frank?

I didn't say you personally had. But I'm quite sure if you do a search here you'll find quite a lot of highly negative comments about Pelosi of the same ilk as this thread. You'll find less for Barney Frank, because he isn't as famous.

I haven't seen anywhere on here where Pelosi's or Frank's words were dismissed out of hand because they were "fucking stupid".

That's true. You yourself dismissed Frank's words as "memorably stupid" in this thread. And that's vastly different than "fucking stupid", isn't it?

Or Patty Murray's. Or the President's. I did see it a bunch when talking about the witch lady from Delaware and Palin.

So maybe it isn't women in general, but women that are associated with the Tea Party. Which starts to make sense, now.

Or maybe you only notice it when it is directed at politicians you support.

barfo

I don't think I've made "generalized accusations". If you'd like I'll call out specific posters, but that goes against what I'm trying to show. I'm asking the question of why this woman gets so much hate spewed her way, b/c no one's arguing for or against her points in these threads. Is it b/c of the bias against women, which comes up so often from certain posters? Or the one against religion, which comes up about as often. These questions, far from being the "generalized accusations" you'd like them labeled as so you can get away without thinking about them, have much more value that than telling someone to stfu, I'd say.
And why would Huckabee be in this conversation? Has he done as many appearances and put his opinion out there like Palin?

I'll go here. In each of the threads about Frank (and Pelosi, to a lesser extent) they're being discussed because of their ideas/proposals. And those proposals are being attacked and defended. The IDEAS are being attacked and defended. No one is saying "that (derogatory adjective) (hate-filled noun) should stfu". Their policies are being discussed, with potentially a conclusion of "they have to be dumb to think this would work" or something. I didn't see that in this thread, or many others about Palin....did you?

Or maybe you only notice it when it is directed at politicians you support.

barfo
I don't support Palin. I support her right to say what she wants to say as part of her "campaign". I support her right not to be told to stfu. I support that we should be discussing her policies and ideas. But you don't want to do that, because it's easier to tell the bitch to stfu. Maybe that's another life lesson people should learn.

People have the right to tell her to "stfu" just as much as she has the right to say nutty things.

how are they nutty, julius? Wanna tackle that one? Or are they nutty b/c they're from a woman who is a Tea Party Leader and frank about her religious beliefs?

I've seen nothing from you, barfo, Chris, hoojacks, SPD, Nate, to discuss the issue, other than she's "nutty", "dangerous", "should stfu", etc. . At least crandc posted an opinion relevant to the topic, and a reason she should stfu. The rest of you aren't contributing to political discourse at all.

I support her right to say what she wants to say as part of her "campaign".

I don't see that her right to say things has been infringed upon in any noticable way.

I support her right not to be told to stfu.

Of course, that isn't what this thread is about. The title is "Palin should stfu", not "hey palin, stfu". And I'm pretty sure Palin doesn't read S2. And I'm pretty sure "S2" was unnecessary in that last sentence.

I support that we should be discussing her policies and ideas.

Go right ahead. No one is stopping you from discussing either of her ideas. If you make it interesting, I'm sure you'll get some discussion.

But you don't want to do that, because it's easier to tell the bitch to stfu.

I don't believe I told her anything at all.

Neither are you. You are just complaining about our lack of contributions.

He ran for president last time, and will probably run again in 2012. He seems kind of relevant for that reason. Is he as famous as Palin? No, but neither is Barney Frank, and you felt free to bring him up.

Are you being serious? They are nutty cause she has no idea what she is talking about, she is only in the national media cause McCain made a last minute effort to try to take woman voters away from the Democrats. She has no business running for any public office in any state other than Alaska (cause the have the lowest education level in the country). Your notion that she is being told to "stfu" cause she is a Tea Party member and a women is ludicrous, it's cause she is a moron. If you can't see that I don't know what to tell you.

I find it strange that you keep bringing up her gender, as if it has to play a role here. Or her religion.

As for her saying nutty things? I can see Russia from my house, death panels, "This is Reagan country (applause). Yeah! And perhaps it was destiny that the man who went to California's Eureka College would become so woven within and inter-linked to the Golden State." "They are kooks, so I agree with Rush Limbaugh. Rush Limbaugh was using satire ... I didn't hear Rush Limbaugh calling a group of people whom he did not agree with 'f-ing retards,' and we did know that Rahm Emanuel, as has been reported, did say that. There is a big difference there." --Sarah Palin, attempting to rationalize why it's okay for Limbaugh to use the word "retards" but not Emanuel, FOX News Sunday interview,

"Who calls a shot like that? Who makes a decision like that? It's a disturbing trend." –Sarah Palin, pushing a conspiracy theory that "In God We Trust" had been moved to the edge of coins by the Obama administration (the change was made by the Bush administration in 2007 and was later reversed by Congress, before Obama took office), West Allis, Wisconsin, Nov. 6, 2009

"The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil." –-Sarah Palin, in a message posted on Facebook about Obama's health care plan, Aug. 12, 2009

She says stupid things, makes it hard to take her serious. She says taking points, lame ones at that, that do her gender and average run of the mill republicans, a disservice. Most politicians do it, but most politicians (and she really isn't one anymore) don't have the clout or avenue to an audience that she does.

She has no business running for any public office in any state other than Alaska (cause the have the lowest education level in the country).

Huh?

Yes. Those things are only allowed when liberals are defending their women or Muslims, or when bashing Christians, cuz that's OK

Shame on you, BrianfromWA!

I'm sure the rest of your post was awesome, julius, but you lost me in your first ridiculous sentence.

projection. her being a woman has little to do with why people think she should shut up. If anything, it makes people leery about saying more about her. It trivializes things, by implying it's because of the reasons suggested. Tom Cruise says nutty things, his gender isn't why people make fun of him. James Carville says some strange things, his gender doesn't play a role (nor does him being part of Clintons administration matter). Rahm Emanuel says some strange things too, him being Jewish doesn't matter.

Rod Blagojevich said nutty things, him being male didn't matter.

Rush Limbaugh, Olbermann, O'Rielly, Glenn Beck, Hannity and Elizabeth Hasselbeck say strange shit, their age, race, gender or religion plays a very minor role in it.

Sometimes a cigar is a cigar. Sarah (and the rest of them), says nutty things, and people complain/mock/whatever about her not because she's a woman or they feel intimidated/fear a woman in power, but because she says some nutty shit.

People make fun of Rosie O'Donnel not because she's gay (well, some do, but not in the manner I'm speaking), or a woman, but because they felt what she was saying was nutty.

julius, she never said she could see Russia from her house. Tina Fey said it.

Also, labeling health care review panels as "death panels" was pretty damn smart if you ask me. She won the argument by defining the debate.

There are all kinds of intelligence. Certainly, she's no intellectual. However, I think she has a great deal of common sense. I think the fact that she doesn't possess the kind of intelligence held so dear by the decision-shapers in this country and still has a massive following drives those people crazy.
