The 'Next' Move

Are we going to be angrier in the immediate aftermath of the trade, or after the trade deadline when it turns out there was no next move?

Way more angrier if no next move.

If the next trade makes this trade more palatable from a reasoning standpoint, then there you go.

But no move, well that's inexcusable.

if there is a next move, in order to make yesterday's trade more palatable, the next trade would need to depend on yesterday's trade. Just moving CJ, for instance, for Hart-Sato-Hayes doesn't have any bearing on yesterday's trade, especially if the Blazers have to waive players to complete the deal

Ah, yes. That's true too.

There are a few ways that you can use the last trade in a new one. I touched on this earlier in the thread, but this would be my guess.

Portland Out: Bledsoe, CJ, Snell (roster filler)
Portland In: Grant, Hart, Sato

Detroit Out: Grant
Detroit In: Bledsoe (expiring), Hayes, NOP 1st rd pick

New Orleans Out: Hart, Hayes, Sato, 1st rd pick
New Orleans In: McCollum, Snell (roster filler)

That goes a long way in balancing the roster and saving money. Might not be quite enough to snag Grant. Maybe a little more is added in a package somewhere from Nance or Nurk. However, with the way Hayes has been playing, and his timeline matching Detroit's pretty well, I could see a 1st rd pick, Hayes, and cap space being intriguing. Certainly better than THT and the Lakers 2027 1st rd pick.

He’s the cap man and explained his move.
Dont you think if he thought he could accomplished that he would have? I guess we’ll find out how right and wrong we all were soon enough.
From his comments about the trade led me to believe
He working his plan?

He didn't do some cap magic. Every person in here could have done this and i think if anyone suggested that trade he would be ridiculed to be honest. This was a very basic trade and I don t think Clippers took more than 3 seconds to accept it.

Maybe 5 seconds. Sometimes those champagne bottles are tough to open.

I will say it again while the trade on paper looks really bad wait and see if there is more and how it turns out between now and end of draft THEN Judge

Maybe Cronin is playing chess while NeO was playing checkers but we shall see -- all i was preaching yesterday

BUT i will say this i let emotions like everyone else cloud the way i commented and I think alot of BS was said yesterday from ALL sides -- all i will say now let's wait and see how this plays out ...... tick tock

Given the trade that happened on Friday, there HAS to be a corresponding move coming, right? You don't trade 2 starters, no matter how much of an overlap there might be with one of them (Powell), just to get under the Cap. As a fan, I can't allow myself to believe that, or all hope for this franchise is lost.

So it would seem, it has to start with Eric Bledsoe.

iu

Bledsoe's current salary is $18,125,000 for this year and grows to $19,375,000 next year BUT, only around $3,900,000 of that is guaranteed. He can be bought out for a significant Cap savings....for whatever team owns his contract. That is a tidy sum for a team that needs some flexibility or needs to get under the cap. The Blazers can use that to acquire another asset that is usable that is under contract for a longer period of time since it would do them little good in FA'cy.

The concern is, how Cronin is going to make this work. I have been assured by a number of sauces that there were other deals on the table and many other discussions, almost all of which, fans would have thought were better deals.

So there HAS to be a 'next' move, or this will be one of the worst trade in franchise history. This was brought up yesterday. Jody and Steve have known each other for years as neighbors, and through Paul with Microsoft. I'm sure we all hope this wasn't just a solid done for a long time acquaintance because she really doesn't care about the Blazers like she does the Seahawks.

She is the one who had to sign off on this, so hopefully Joe has another chess move down the road to polish up this turd a bit. Some of you cap gurus can play with Bledsoe's contract to see what else we might be able to do.

As fans, we need a 'silver lining' out of this, because yesterday was brutal.

Wait so you also of sources?

I don't regret showing my emotions. The trade is fucked up as a stand alone. Lol. Couple that with the Olshey hangover and lack of trust for this organization to do the right thing and belief they WILL do the right thing.... Well, you know.

can't aggregate Bledsoe in any trade prior to the deadline. Has to be him being traded alone

Bledsoe's salary isn't enough to get Grant. Because New Orleans is well under the tax, there could be a Bledsoe for Hart trade, but there is no incentive for them to do that

You could be absolutely right but I will see what happens next and as throughout the offseason.

Bledsoe can't be traded with another player from Portland. Bledsoe can be moved in a deal where players from another team are moved to the same new team. This trade would work. Similar to the Sheed trade to Detroit. The Hawks traded for Sheed, then turned around and traded him to Detroit in a 3 team trade that also landed Mike James in Detroit, but from Boston.

Bledsoe $ works for Turner or Sabonis fwiw. And Grant.

Framework would have to be multiple deals since Bled cant be combined with any of our other players

isn’t the rule that he can be traded with other players as long as he can match the incoming salary alone?

Ya but Indy isnt gonna give up either of those guys for bled alone from a talent perspective

A farmer and his son had a beloved stallion who helped the family earn a living. One day, the horse ran away and their neighbors exclaimed, “Your horse ran away, what terrible luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We’ll see.”

A few days later, the horse returned home, leading a few wild mares back to the farm as well. The neighbors shouted out, “Your horse has returned, and brought several horses home with him. What great luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We’ll see.”

Later that week, the farmer’s son was trying to break one of the mares and she threw him to the ground, breaking his leg. The villagers cried, “Your son broke his leg, what terrible luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We’ll see.”

A few weeks later, soldiers from the national army marched through town, recruiting all the able-bodied boys for the army. They did not take the farmer’s son, still recovering from his injury. Friends shouted, “Your boy is spared, what tremendous luck!” To which the farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We’ll see.”

ok I see what you are doing. You're trading Bledsoe for Grant in one trade (I had confused Grant's salary with Siakam for some reason); and CJ for the rest in another trade. Two trades

Wait. I think I misunderstood your point. Is this really true? So we can theoretically trade Bled and one of our young guys for Grant?

I wouldn't do that per se but its an idea.

My guess is a Bledsoe trade is more of a draft day/offseason move when he can be combined.

idk if it’s true, that’s been my assumption. Would be a way to clear a spot for Watford.

Sort of. Still one 3-way trade because Hayes would be going to Detroit with Bledsoe and the 1st rd pick.

Is Grant a better fit than RoCo at 4/3? I havent seen him much since Denver?

Trade CJ for JV. Then give GS Nurk for injured Draymond. That would complete the tank. Next year:

Dame/Simons/Nas/Draymond/JV?

Cronin looks like an embarrassment right now. He has to make more trades to make this not look like he is an idiot. Trading CJ and Snell to say Dallas for Porzingis and Brown or to NOP for Hart and Valiunciunas or Hart, Hayes, and Statoranksy + a first...or if he can pull off Herb Jones he'd look amazing. Followed by a Bledsoe + a first to DET or IND or HOU for Grant, Sabonis, or Wood he would have a balanced roster plus a favor owed from the Clippers and be looking good going into next season.

There has to be a larger plan. Dame had to sign off on this. That makes me hopeful still. We will see by Thursday what's in store

Also if we can't trade Bledsoe I can see Portland buying him out/waiving him and looking for someone else off the buyout market.
