Re: The 2013-14 Around The NBA Thread......

He is a horrible help defender, but not a horrible man-to-man by any means. He may be the strongest guy in the league, which means you don't get any ground on him.

His opponent's fg% inside of 5 ft. is worse than people like Marc Gasol and 5-9ft than Splitter's and Bogut's.

That maybe true, but the real value of a center is help defense. That's why we value Lopez so much. This isn't one on one basketball. Most teams will attack you from all directions. When your center can't protect the basket, it puts sooo much more to defend them.

That is due to the situation. Howard takes so many rebounds away.

Asik would be a perfect fit next to Aldridge. Lopez is the perfect backup.

Asik is awful on offense. Always has been, and Robin is actually playing like a legit starting center. Of course that could change, but as of now I'm perfectly happy with Robin. I wouldn't bother trading our starting SG for Asik.

Re: The 2013-14 Around The NBA Thread......

So when is San Antonio finally going to take that step back?

I really thought it was going to be this year, but I was dead wrong.

Literally this exact same thing has been said for like six or seven years now. I've stopped guessing at this point. I guess whenever Duncan retires?

I think Kidd is much more likely to be fired. That team is built to win now, this year, and I have no idea why they handed that team over to a guy with zero coaching experience.

Yeah I would put his chances at around the same as Corbin. Corbin is basically a worse version of Nate.

Except Utah is actively trying to tank, so they won't fire him until after the season. Brooklyn is trying to win a championship.

I know Utah is trying to tank but I think they will fire Corbin early still. Kidd should be fired if the Nets are sub .500 by the All-Star break.

If the Nets are even around .500 by the break, I think he's gone. That team has way too much talent to be around .500. Of course, it can take time for that many new faces to click, and they could start rolling at any time.

With the talent they have they SHOULD be turning the chemistry corner by the end of the month. However I think they don't do it and end up with 40-45 wins this season.

I couldn't imagine if Houston loses tonight against the Knicks. I can see implosion

If they keep struggling it'll make some of us re-evaluate Howard. Yes he was on the Magic team that got to the finals; but that was a terribly weak eastern conference, they got hot from Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu torching teams at the 3 point line. Stan Van Gundy did a good job coaching that team. The Lakers struggles were shocking last year. Houston is now a worse rebounding team than last year.

Maybe Howard is a guy who doesn't make his teammates better.

I was kinda thinking the same thing. I wonder if Houston fans are wondering if they made the right choice?

Interesting radio call from the Houston side:

"Refs blowing the whistle. Melo and Harden bumping and grinding down low. They are getting rough on each other."

So many ways to take that.

Asik barely playing at all tonight, either.

Not even in the rotation.

Dwightmare.

Listen to me. San Antonio will always be good. Always. When Duncan is gone, when Parker is gone, the Spurs will always be a force in this league. They're a great organization. If you're waiting for them to fall off, you're waiting for nothing. It's never gonna happen.

Amare is moving/jumping like an old man.

Retirement after his contract is a must.

Sad. Losing out on LeBron led to a lot of bad choices. On that note, can you imagine how big of a star Lillard would be if he were a Knick?

Or how about Brooklyn? I mean he was basically their pick. Deron looking like shit this year.

man if Dame played in NYC, he'd be in every commercial around.

His numbers are way down. He's just not used to playing with that many good players. No chemistry yet......they'll be fine.

I'm sure they will be, but dame is better than Deron. And Lillard would have blown up. Bet get superstar calls too.

God this pisses me off! I hate nba refs!

Dwight isn't the same Dwight from those magic teams. His back has made him 80% of what he was. When he was on the magic he was the most dominant big man in the game and it wasn't even close. A big part of that was just the freak athlete he was that allowed him to do things like come out to the top of the key and then turn around and get back in time to block a cutters shot, he can't do those things anymore. He is skilled but it was his freak athleticism that really allowed him to be such a monster defensively. He has relied on that athleticism to much over his career and neglected developing different skill sets and its really showing at the moment.

I think Houston might be the most overrated team in the Western Conference. I think it was Bill Simmons who pointed out that Dwight is on the fast track to mediocrity.
