I'm having a hard time remembering the specifics but it boiled down to him wanting a chance to be "the guy" on a team and with Lillard here he didn't feel like he would have as great of an opportunity as with a different team.

I've posted the quote a few times before. Here it is again.

http://blogs.trailblazers.com/Broad...188/EntryID/4984/BroadcasterID/4/Default.aspx

"I interviewed with Portland; I never went to work out with them," said Carter-Williams. "This year they had a point guard in Damian Lillard. If I get chosen by them, it's not something I can do, it's not a particular place where I choose to go, but I'd go there and make the best of it and then see what happens when my time comes."

A very reasonable, honest answer and one few, if any, of his peers would make. Most would be happy to reverted to stock answers like "I'm just happy to get drafted" or "I'm only focused on things that I can control" but instead Carter-Williams expressed something that everyone who has been around the NBA for a while knows: players want to play. No one who has the requisite confidence needed to play in the NBA wants to be a backup. They might say they don't mind, but trust me, they do. They all do.

Which is a good thing. But it is then Olshey's job to sell him on playing WITH Lillard and how with him, we have title opportunity. You don't let him dictate.

He just wanted to go somewhere where he could start. We could've moved Lillard to SG. You make it work. Don't let the player dictate where he will and won't play. Are you still glad we picked Bowie over Jordan?

lol. You really think we'd do that to the unanimous ROY? There's more to it than that, KS. I'd love to have MCW, but if he doesn't want to be here, why are we going to bend over backwards? Even if we move Lillard, we're still running it through Lillard and LMA in the playbook, and he's going to be underused. Instead of in Philly where he's the guy. MCW and his agent have more control than is perceived.

So we bench Mathews to let a rookie, who no one thought would be this good, start? Thats just ridiculous.

Well, Indiana is getting to 11 before us, but SA might not. Go Grizzlies.

Re: The 2013-14 Around The NBA Thread......

Okay you guys remembered when I said Brooklyn is gonna win? Well I don't think that's coming true! Haha

Also we weren't the only ones to pass on MCW so if you have to complain about us missing out on him you have to say the same thing about every other team that passed on him as well.

Who cares what the other teams did?

Exactly. We didn't NEED a PG, anyway. Why would we draft one?

I now know what NoVoodoo felt like when arguing with kingspeed. I'll just leave it at MCW is good and better then I and everyone else expected.

Thank you. He would've made the best of it.

So what happens to Matthews? We don't win a few of these games without him. Our record would likely have been worse.

MCW is looking great cause he's on a terrible team. He'd be doing less, and the domino effect of not having matthews out there would hurt... It's more than just the player, it's the team, and we would be worse NOW with him. No championship this year with him, as you said in an earlier post.

Eh. I will never regret passing on MCW, he's in a great spot for him.

But, it's passing time until the game starts, so there is a bonus! lol.

I know. You got my hopes up.

which one? Left or traded? You can't just leave. Charlotte could've kept him. If I remember right, though, Chalotte drafted him with the intention of trading him for Divac.

It's why I quoted "traded". He demanded to be traded because he didn't want to be in Charlotte.

Hey. I'm happy with the team we have. And we had a great team in the 90s without Jordan, but it's tough to pass on great players. Our team is great though. Not saying we suck at all. But it's best to have as much talent as you can. You can trade Matthews or MCW for another piece at another position if you have to.

It does suck. But all teams have passed on great players, so it's really just a moot point.

Our team is better right now without MCW. He's great for the 76ers. It worked out just the way it needed to.

Re: The 2013-14 Around The NBA Thread......

Brooklyn is just broke. I've never thought they would be this bad. They maybe a lotto team. I think they even traded their pick too (unprotected). Ouch

I feel like I was the only one that knew they'd be this bad. I mean, the team is assembled for hype, not anything else.

Kidd is gone before Christmas. Book it!

They look awful BUT

They are playing without Kirilenko, DWill, and Lopez.

They have played most of their games on the road.

They beat Miami so they can win when they really want to.

That said, Kidd should be fired.

link? He was traded on draft day. When did he have time to demand a trade? I think they always intended to get Divac.

I love you too.

I'm looking for a link, but all I'm finding is forum postings.

A lot of people are saying his agent said that he would not go to any of the lottery teams, and thus Charlotte drafted him as a "draft asset" so, really, the Lakers forced the trade, in a sense.

"Kobe's agent went around to the lottery teams informing them that Kobe would refuse to play with them. Kobe had already met with Jerry West, and was set to force his way to LA. The hornets worked out a deal to get Vlade and drafted Kobe as a trade asset. So the reason Kobe went to LA is because he and the lakers worked to force it to happen."

That's from a message board, but it's pretty much the consensus.

Can we get a confirmation that the Nets have no picks in 2014? Does Boston have their first? They must be thrilled! PapaG?

Charlotte could've kept him. He can't force anything. If Charlotte didn't trade him, it would've been Play for the Hornets or You Don't Get to Play in the NBA. Period. A 17 year old #13 pick can't force shit.
