This… I wanna know as well. For a player looking so badly in his first year of college, I'm curious why he was so heavily wanted.

Explosive athleticism and a good body size.

Basically being a freak. He is like LeBron (Age 18-24) offensively and athletically in T-Mac's body.

ive been on parkers tip for awhile

wiggins has like 6 inches of his height is in his neck, dude is weird looking
 
Ryan Anderson doesn't miss very often from 3. Wow this guy is an amazing bench player
 
The Bulls don't have anyone that they can go to with Rose out. They were down 4 and they simply couldn't get a bucket because their best scorer was Mike Dunleavy. That's just sad.

For some reason they were so quick to get rid of Nate Robinson who was the only guy they had that could do that for them last year

No idea. I like Mo, but how does swapping Mo out with a minimum contract NateRob, then having had our room exception go to Jermaine O'Neal sound right about now?

hmmmm, actually naterob got 2 years 4 million. But I wonder if he would have signed a minimum deal (which cant be that much less than 2 million because he has been in the league awhile) to be close to home.

doesn't sound good. Jermaine is old and nothing great and Nate is more of a chucker than Mo is.

I'm fine with having a chucker if they're capable of going off. Mo doesn't really seem like that guy. Nate can drop 30 at the drop of a hat. The key is to know when to pull them. If they have it going, leave them in and ride them as far they'll take you, and if they're off you just take them out. Mo is playing no matter what right now. That's really the problem. I wouldn't mind Mo as much if he only played when his shot was falling.

Heck, I wouldn't have cared if he pulled a 'Melo and said "I'm never resigning here--do what you need to do". Being a UFA was his right, as was taking less money to play with his buddies. They did try to make stupid trades for players LeBron wanted. Look at the trade deadlines in 2009 and 2010. He left anyway, leaving the cupboard bare. But at least CLE got a couple of seconds and 15M of treasured cap space.

Cleveland should have traded him when James wouldn't commit to them. You spent the summer panicking about how the Blazers should trade LMA, yet it's LeBron's fault that Cleveland rolled the dice on him staying. Seems like inconsistent logic to me. :dunno:

Well, to be fair, LeBron is the best player in the league. I would probably hold out hope that the hometown boy wouldn't leave his team high and dry. They rolled the dice and lost.

You're misunderstanding.

After LMA said he wouldn't re-sign an extension, I pointed out that IMO his trade value was highest prior to this year's draft. Others disagreed and thought his value would be high enough at the trade deadline, or next summer. Some thought cap space in 2015 was a good enough return.
After Carmelo said he wasn't signing with DEN (and Deron with UTH), they were able to get multiple assets for stars that didn't want to be there.
If LeBron would've told CLE about his intention never to re-sign with them, they would probably have received more than 2 late firsts and a trade exception. In your analogy, they rolled the dice on a rigged game. LMA was open in his exit interviews about not re-signing here.

I disagree with the premise that LMA said he flat-out wasn't going to re-sign in Portland. By all accounts, that's not what happened.
 
By his account (among others), it was. And while I'm glad he's said it was because he was "overly emotional" at the time and that now he's happy, it doesn't change the fact that he said it, it was reported, lots of pizza guys heard about it, and Olshey felt the need to lie while dismissing it.

Maybe I missed it, but LMA says nothing about demanding a trade in that quote. Also, that interview recently happened, so you had no clue about it while you were on your summer Trade LMA!!! rampage. LMA even Tweeted that he liked the moves Olshey made, yet you still assumed he wasn't going to re-sign, and were adamant about trading him. Also, your theory about his trade value being higher before this season was clearly wrong, too, based on the way he has started this season. Then again, negotiating from a position of panic, which was basically what trading him last summer would have been, is never a good idea until all other options have been explored.

B) The "rampage" lasted until draft night (more specifically, when we traded for Robinson and didn't trade for the #1 pick)
C) There were plenty of clues, even if all you had to work with was open-source media.

None of the re-sign stuff came out this summer. You were basing (and apparently still are) your panic trade based on a Comcast article. LMA said nothing at the time publicly about wanting out. Find me a quote from him from early summer where he says he won't re-sign. Plus, even if he did in private after the season, luckily Olshey knows the ups and downs that happen in all negotiations, and didn't immediately start shitting his pants to try and deal LMA. That's what someone with limited knowledge of negotiating would do, but not someone with experience.
 
I don't remember hearing anything about Aldridge saying he wouldn't re-sign, that was just something I assumed. I figured he'd want to go someplace like Dallas when his deal was up so he could be closer to his mom. I remember hearing some kind of rumblings about Aldridge joking about playing closer to home, but I don't remember where and I certainly can't produce a link. Regardless, I figured he was gone because I didn't think there was any way this team would be good enough to keep him happy before his deal expired.

I was very, very wrong.

I vastly underrated Neil and his ability to surround our starters with good players. I also underrated how good our starting five would be when healthy. Right now our starters are close to firing on all cylinders. This team is scary when our core is clicking. I wish the bench was a little better, but watching Nic, Dame, LA, Wes, and Lopez is truly fun.

Ok. I didn't have a "panic trade". I said that LMA said he wouldn't re-sign, and the time to get best value for him was prior to the draft this year. I said that one rumored trade (#1/#18/Thompson/another first) would be about the best value we could probably hope for, while still keeping space for more players. It was by no means the only one I thought could work.

Find me a quote from him from early summer where he says he won't re-sign.

You're probably right. I'm sure you have plenty of open-source quotes stating that there was absolutely no negotiation with any other teams prior to the draft to gauge LMA's value, in open defiance of the many that were out there from reputable rumormongers.

Concur with this. I don't think anyone (including and especially me) thought we could get Lopez and Robinson for all of our 2nds. Now, whenever someone says something like "there's no way Team X would take that for Player Y", you can point to Robinson and Lopez trades.

I also underrated how good our starting five would be when healthy.
