Wow Westbrook out. I think we have a realistic chance of getting the best record in the West!

The Thunder were far less dynamic in the playoffs without Westbrook. I expect Lamb or Jackson to be better now filling in for that role but moving one of them into the starting lineup really hurts their bench. The Spurs don't have a single win vs any of the top7 teams in the league. The Rockets and Clippers each have double digit losses.

We play the Thunder twice on the second of back to backs on the road. I was going to chalk those up as losses but this will give us much better chance of stealing a win.

Thank "Clutchspeed". He's been our road warrior fan

Wonder what the new swelling is all about. How long was Westbrook out last time? Seems this second time around is more serious just going off how long he is going to be out.

Man if that is Westbrook playing on a bum knee, how scary is he when playing 100%?

Can't remember what we did last year against him? Did Wes guard him? I think Batum is too skinny, he is great on PG's but not on bigger SF's. Gerald Wallace actually did a great job for us in that role.
I don't recall last year, either, but I do recall a few years ago Nic guarded him about as well as anyone can. Nic kept him on the perimeter shooting jumpers, rather than letting him get to the rim. Of course LBJ hit most of those jumpers, but I can live with him making jumpers rather than dunking and getting fouled. However, with the way our defense is currently "designed" I don't know that Nic, or anyone, can keep LBJ out of the paint if he wants to drive. But hopefully we make him catch the ball 18' away from the hoop and sag off him just a little.

Re: The 2013-14 Around The NBA Thread......

@ESPNStatsInfo: Russell Westbrook out through All-Star Break; his 5.9 PPG on fast break are 2nd-most in NBA (LeBron James, 6.5).

LBJ averaged 23/9/8/2.5stls/1.5blocks on 54% shooting against us last year - and that is the worst he has done against us for the last 7 years at least.

He always kills us.

Well yeah - he kills everyone. He's the best player of the past 15ish years! He's going to get his regardless of whatever defense we try to throw at him. I just hope we try to make him shoot jumpers.

I believe we are the team he plays best against according to his stats (points, rebounds, assist, steals, blocks). I think he averages damn near a triple double against us if I recall the TV stat correctly. Point being, we've never defended him well. I know we are certainly one of the 3 teams he scores most against as well.

I just recalled at one point last year he was asked why he always plays well against us and especially at the Rose Garden, and he said that Portland was like another home to him because he spend quite a bit of time here because of Nike.

Ah, gotcha. I didn't realize that he's had more success against us than against any other team. I suppose it's not surprising since we've never been a good defensive team during his career.

Wade hasn't played a back to back this season. If he plays tonight in Sacramento that gives us a much better chance!

Think it was mostly Sasha and Wes last year.

Re: The 2013-14 Around The NBA Thread......

@ESPNStatsInfo: Heat have won 19 straight games vs Western Conference opponents; with a win tonight in Sacramento, they'll tie NBA record (Celtics in 1973)

Re: The 2013-14 Around The NBA Thread......

@ESPNStatsInfo: Thunder have won 6 straight road games, longest road winning streak since 2001-02 (when franchise was in Seattle).

Re: The 2013-14 Around The NBA Thread......

@BlazerFreeman: LeBron James' stats vs #Blazers at Moda Center are ridiculous. In 10 career games, he's averaging 29.6p, 9.9r, 7.2a and shooting 50%.

Re: The 2013-14 Around The NBA Thread......

@nbastats: .@trailblazers have a league-best 24-5 record & they're 5-1 against other 20+win teams . Next up is Miami (22-6)

Re: The 2013-14 Around The NBA Thread......

Damn! Now Al Horford is hurt!?!? This is getting crazy!

Re: The 2013-14 Around The NBA Thread......

@ajchawks: According to a team source, Al Horford suffered a complete tear of his right pectoral muscle. #ATLHawks

Re: The 2013-14 Around The NBA Thread......

@NBAGuru: Word is Horford has a complete tear of his pectoral muscle. Same injury as two years ago. Missed nearly 4 months.

Re: The 2013-14 Around The NBA Thread......

@ESPNStatsInfo: Kevin Love has 25 double-doubles this season, most in the NBA (Chris Paul is 2nd with 24).

Wow thats cool! Undefeated vs the East set to meet undefeated vs the West. Someone is going down!

There's a great matchup tonight. Phoenix @ Golden State. Looking forward to that!

Re: The 2013-14 Around The NBA Thread......

OKC only up 4 on Cats midway they the 4th......

I'm closing this thread in 5 days and making a new one for 2014.

Can we all root for Sac tonight to really give Miami a good game? Push em to OT then let the Heat beat 'em would be best scenario.

Not looking good for OKC. Eked out a win with Durant playing 40 min vs Bobcats. Was a 2 point game with 10 seconds, and McRoberts missed a game winning three for Cha.

Dominique Wilkins said after the game he is picking the Blazers to win the NBA championship (NBATV), "I really like that team." Barry called it a "bold prediction."

ESPNStats

Al Horford (out indefinitely) is 1 of 6 players who leads his team in PPG & RPG (L. James, K. Love, C. Anthony, L. Aldridge & D. Cousins)

LeBron just passed Larry Bird to move into 30th place on the NBA'S all-time scoring list.
