I think there's a team out their that would take him for free though (Chicago or Indiana most likely). Plus, we'll have to surely outbid others since were in their division.

We have a great relationship with Denver, look how many deals we have done, and i'm not sure Chicago or Indiana would want to just absorb a player if he isn't in their plans long term for free when they can keep that space open and be an enticing spot to either not use it and save the money or be the team that teams love to deal with near the trade deadline that can absorb players contracts for a fee.
