We are redoing our front and back decks right now. Trying to decide on a material. Wife is sick of me having to re-do the finish on our present wood decks every spring (or, err, not re-finishing the surface!)

Looking at composite like Trex. Anyone have experience with it? Not sure I like the prefab look.

I'm leaning towards Dasso bamboo.
Mahogany is nice.

Been away to Nashville for a while and with supply chain and labor issues - progress has been slow.

Finally got the bathtub in, hope to have the vanity tomorrow and the counter-tops next week.

Love that tub….. that’s the style my wife wants. Details please.

Well, it's a soaking tub, I have to admit that we put one in only for resale purposes as I doubt we will use it much, maybe we will because it is so deep. I believe it is a pulse soaking tub and I can't tell you the exact model but maybe this one:

https://www.wayfair.com/home-improv...ding-soaking-fiberglass-bathtub-zzp10030.html

It is a 67 inch or so which is why it is set at a 45 degree angle ( lack of space otherwise as we wanted a long enough shower and a long vanity.

If you really want the details I can find the exact model later, but as I said, mostly bought for looks and availability if we decide to move when all the kids our out of the house and we want a smaller place.

The filler is by someone else and was mostly bought to match all the faucets we will have on the vanity. Maybe Moen but again, I don't remember exactly since it's been a while since all the design and purchase happened since everything takes a long time these days.

BTW - one thing I have learned - Plumbers love Moen - as the same valve design has been used for years, it is easy to service and always available - they also hate Delta with a passion. This pisses fixtures salesmen to no end - and if you care about the design - kind of limits your selection - but we went for ease of installation and service over over-all looks - because at the end of the day, it is just faucets and shower-heads - they are not as important, looks wise, as the rest of the design.

I found this on an inspection site and the owner had the audacity to request a CCO.

My estimated closing date is February 18. Looking for contractors. One who advertised in community magazine seemed promising until I checked Yelp. Terrible reviews about work left unfinished. Looking on Angi.

Angie pretty damn useless. Going to do the old fashioned way. Yellow pages.

Angie, Angie
Why did those contractors all disappear?
Angie, Angie
Where will it lead us from here?
With no fixin' in our homes
And no money in our coats
You can't say we're satisfied

This is our current project (well, looks like one of 2). Main Bathroom.

Started with this horrible 70s decor, with the toilet right next to the shower, a horrible useless tub, too small a window above it and a strange half wall in the middle (probably because they had the L shape vanity).

Complete Demo, moving the toilet away from the shower so one does not need to squeeze himself...

And where it is now, floor is almost done, shower prep is ongoing, cut the wall for a bigger window above the tub.

I really like these floors, look like a weathered barn floor or something. We are waiting the custom vanity and cement sinks we bought (went fancy for that one) for the next big piece to install.

Sheesh that’s a big toilet next to shower.

I just employed Angie's List to do some electrical work, some plumbing and possibly some roofing. They gave me some pretty competitive quotes. Moss and leaves on roof, need five new 20 amp outlets and garbage disposals turns on but the grinder doesn't work. I can't stand without the support of my wife and even then it can only be for a brief time. I know how to do the electrical work but am physically unable. The garbage disposal is easy to replace, Ive done it twice before, but again my disability gets in the way.

Wife and I thinking about knocking out a wall that separates living room from family room & kitchen. There are pros and cons as we are retired it's kind of nice to have our own space to watch our own programs or read. However, when kids and grandkids come over for holiday and such seems everyone wants to hang out near the kitchen area which runs into family room. Its an OK size but cramped with 28 of us.
We are aging in place, lol, so maybe there are more long term benefits to open it up? Ive got my garage I can always make into a he room.

Sometimes Ive called the supplier of product, Kitchen, Bathroom, etc. and asked them if they could recommend someone in the area that is solid. They usually have a listing of contractors they are comfortable in referring people too.

Excellent point. We loved the decking material from Cali Bamboo - and contacted them - they gave us the contractor that did the deck and later the contractor that did our kitchen and now our bathroom.

Everything is taking a long time. Vanity finally arrived, but now needs to be modified to match the crazy plumbing we have in this old house - so not fully installed yet. Heard that our custom window is going to take a while and the shower enclosure is also running late because it's a custom job. I have a feeling this is going to drag on for a while...

It's really starting to come together in my opinion!

The first rule of remodels is: "Everything costs more and takes longer than you ever anticipated."

That's also the second and third rule!

It's looking good. I haven't followed every post in this thread so sorry if you already mentioned it, but I'm curious about the tile in the pan of the shower? Self installed? I've done a smaller version, but with 2x2 square tiles and it was a lot easier than I expected (way over engineered the waterproofing though because black mold scares the shit out of me). With the more intricate design I wonder if it was more difficult?

Hopefully deliveries speed up for ya!
