The OFFiCIAL NBA Draft Lottery Thread- May 21st, 2013

Moving up just a couple spaces would be splendid.

Will Lillard still be representing us after his despicable acts?

We can't move up just a couple places. If we move up, we get into top 3.

We've got a 4% chance to get into top 3.

Here are the odds for the places POR can potentially select:

1st pick: 1.1%
2nd: 1.3%
3rd: 1.6%
10th: 87%
11th: 8.9%
12th: 0.2%
13th: close to 1 in a million--so you're saying there's a chance

No other slot is possible from the lottery.

What if we lose and Lillard starts cracking heads?

To be clear.. what we want to hear tomorrow is..

"The 11th pick goes to the Phildelphia 76ers....The 10th pick goes to the Minnesota Timberwolves.."

Once we hear the M in Minnesota, we can start jumping around and celebrating.

As I said in another thread, i'v felt like we were going to win it for the last two weeks. Regardless it will be interesting to see how everything falls.

I honestly hope we don't get the #1 pick. (I actually expressed that hope in the Oden draft - I wanted somebody else to make the call.) Suppose we did, though, and suppose nobody will trade with us (because I can't see Noel being a hot commodity). Who would you take with the #1 pick, assuming that player will stay a Blazer? Would you take Oladipo #1?

So we have twice as big of a chance to move back one spot then we have of moving up. That would suck.

Taking Noel could be too risky, just the possibility of wasting two #1 picks on centers not healthy enough to play is probably too much. I think we'll take Oladipo and it might be the right choice but I don't think he's the next Jordan. wouldn't want you to blame me if he is, though (about as likely as us getting the 1st pick).
The player I really want from this draft is someone else but I'm worried if I hype him up too much he wouldn't be available at #10.

I get what you are saying. I would be happy with the 3rd pick. From looking at the mocks I think we only need to move up a few spots (via a trade) to get Oladipo. I really think our 3 2nd round picks could get that done. But do we want to give up that much to only move up 2-3 positions?

Minnesota worries me. They need a SG and I think he would be a good fit next to Rubio.

Do you really believe that your opinion has that much influence on other teams' GMs?

Well, I did start a thread about Trey Burke when he was considered to be a 2nd rounder.

So you're the reason he became the consensus player of the year! I was wondering who was responsible for that...

Yes. It isn't the number of spots, it's the talent/fit upgrade. I'd give up 3 2nd round picks to move up only one spot if it got us the player we really wanted. BPA.

Yeah I would to.

I think you're overly optimistic - here's what Chad Ford says now (post-combine):

I think everyone has decided that Oladipo is the SURE THING, and that everybody else is just too risky. The only other "sure thing" seems to be Otto Porter, but, unlike Oladipo, people don't think he has star potential. I also read somewhere somebody saying that this could be the year that the #1 pick gets traded, precisely because everyone is too scared by Noel/McLemore/Bennett.

If we're stuck at #10 or even 11, how would people feel about Dennis Schröder? I imagine people complaining about using a lottery pick on a player at Lillard's position, but
(a) he might well be BPA, and
(b) the trend in the NBA seems to be to have two PGs on the court a lot, and
(c) he's good at the things Lillard is weak on, and
(d) If we were a good team, we would have players of that talent coming off the bench. After all, people are talking about going after Jarrett Jack, and he'd cost a lot more than a rookie.

I think we're gonna get the #3 pick.

So we have a better chance to get the #11 pick than #1,2 or 3!

And how does a black guy end up in Germany with the name of Schroder?
